What is it that you fear?

Prelude

Her head hurt. Olalla groaned. Her muscles ached and everything seemed to spin around. Her lids were shut tight and it felt like an act in itself to open them. Olalla tried to look around, however a dull pain in her wrists and neck told her that her mobility was restricted right now.

She was chained against a chair, standing, her legs against the frame. The chains on her wrists connected her with the chair, the one around her neck with the wall behind said chair. Carpets drowned the light. Olalla seemed to be in some kind of office. The furniture seemed rather exclusive and expensive. No one else seemed to be in the room.

Something feels wrong. Not only did her body hurt like crazy, but there was also a feeling of something lacking. Something important. Pushing at her chains, Olalla's fear became reality. She was Jekyll! Of course. Fedora had shot her with a green monocane dart after all.

Olalla angrily started to pull at the chains in a feeble attempt to break free, when a voice made her stop in her movements. "I am afraid we had to use such drastic measures." Looking around, Olalla spotted the man, who had just entered the room. He wore a brown uniform, dark leather gloves and his black eyes rested on her. The young Hyde's heart skipped a beat, before it pumped even stronger as if it could not cope with all the emotions that were floating through her.

Fear, love, care, anger, hatred. She was a mess. Olalla's emotions boiled inside her as her memories bubbled up. Captain Dance had crossed his hands behind his back. He said: "In your heart you knew that this moment was bound to happen." She turned her face away, her expression blanc and firm. "I really would have preferred it if you came with us without the need of shooting you." Once again, no answer.

"Come to the point, Dance", responded Olalla. She slowly faced her father once more. "Why am I here?" The undead man stated: "How about you take a seat? This conversation might be long and tiring." The young woman tried to do so, however the ring around her neck hurt her and so she stopped moving.

Dance immediately saw that she was in pain. The undead man slowly approached her. "Do not move", the Captain whispered when Olalla tried to get away. He carefully took out a key and unlocked the ring around her neck. Olalla sighted in relief when she could pull it off.

Rubbing her sore throat, she whispered: "If I had been Robert, you would not have done this." Dance smiled briefly. "No, I wouldn't." Olalla gazed upwards at him. Father and daughter. This bond would never change. However their circumstances had changed and they, sadly, were forced to change with it.

Robert was slowly closing the door behind himself. He sighted low and put his hat under his arms. After the incident in MIO Hyde had retreated himself and the young Doctor had calmed down. He was just so tired of everything.

Therefore it took him a while to realize that something was wrong. The house felt empty. Cold. As if something had happened here. Anxiously Robert stepped into the middle of the lobby. "Hello?", he called. A rustling by the staircase and Garson came forward, followed by Ravi. He was pointing his gun at Robert.

Upon recognizing Jekyll, he lowered it however. "Thank goodness, you are here, boy", Garson grunted, "Where have you been?" Robert immediately got cautious. "I run into trouble with MIO", he explained, "Because Hyde had beaten up Sackler. Why do you ask?" He looked around as if he hoped the answer would jump in his face, before he asked: "What happened?"

Garson lowered his gun. "Tenebrae decided to pay us a visit while you were gone", he explained. Ravi rose his voice: "They took Olalla." No... No! Robert's eyes widened. He gasped for air. This could not be. Shock turned him limb. His mind ran wild. Why had they taken Olalla? What were they planning to do with her? Was this another trap? Where was his sister? Was she alright? Hurt?

"This is all my fault", Robert called as he started to pace up and down. What had he done? He had been so caught up in his own paranoia, in his own fear of Hyde that he had ignored everything else. How foolish of him to believe that the fight was over now that the heart was destroyed! Captain Dance and Tenebrae were still out there. And they had Olalla!

Robert felt horrible as he remembered the last few events. Whenever Olalla had come to visit, the only way he had greeted her was with anger, mistrust, annoyance. He had been a horrible brother. She only wanted to help. They all only wanted to help. Oh, Robert Jekyll, you are an ignorant, stupid, selfish fool!

Clawing his hands in his hairs, he finally stopped pacing and stated: "I have to find her. I have to save her." "Robert, let me help!", called Ravi. "No!", responded Robert and his voice rose in panic, "Ravi, I don't want you to get in trouble. Please, let me do this on my own."

"No, Robert." The Indian boy took his hands. "Please hear me out", he begged, "I am as guilty of letting Olalla get captured as you are. You gave me that pistole, because you wanted me to use it in case of a dire situation. This was a dire situation. I did not use the pistole. I did nothing in fact. I ran, because everybody told me to run."

"Besides", continued Ravi, "You have no idea where Olalla is. Sure, you could go out and just search randomly, but this will take you time. Time, you do not have. Let me help. My sight. Perhaps I can get a glimpse inside Olalla's mind and with it enough information to where she is held captive."

Robert sighted. "Do you think, you can do that?", he responded, "After all, you said it yourself: Your Sight is still very uncontrollable." Ravi replied: "Well, with Olalla it has gotten better. I think, I might be able to find her." "Really?", said Robert and stepped before him, "Okay. Try."

Ravi closed his eyes and tilted his head aside. Robert saw the breath of his brother slowing down as he focussed his entire energy on the Sight and the attempt to find Olalla. Suddenly the Indian boy turned frigid and stiff. His head jerked backwards, his breath came in dry, fast gasps, mouth deformed and his eyes seemed to be focussed on something only he could see.

Captain Dance was standing before him. He could feel the chains around his wrists. Apparently Olalla was sitting in some office, high above London. "Well, what are you waiting for?" Ravi felt the words leave her mouth, heard them with her ears. "Kill me. It is what you want."

Dance had crossed his arms behind his back. He shook his head with a slight smile. "Oh, I would rather avoid that", he responded. Ravi felt Olalla's confusion, her chewing on her lips. He tilted his head and Olalla responded: "But I am a traitor. Traitors die."

Dance suddenly furrowed his brows and gave her an odd look. Then without any warning, he slapped Olalla across the face. "Aaaahhh!" Ravi screamed. Back in the Jekyll house, he placed his hands over his face and bend to his side.

"Ravi!" Robert knelt down and hastily pulled his hands from his face to check for bruises. "What happened? What did you see?" Ravi gasped. He was heavily breathing. Slowly lowering his hands, the boy explained: "I saw Dance. He was interrogating Olalla. I did not really understand what he wanted. However Olalla assumed that he had come to murder her. And then...something odd happened. Dance slapped me across the face. I think, he somehow knew I was in Olalla's head. He wanted to block my link with her."

Robert asked: "Did you see where she was?" Ravi nodded. "An office." He stood up and walked towards the table. Swooping the newspaper up, the Indian boy asked: "Do you know where The Daily Truth has its headquarters?"

~Jekyll & Hyde~

The building was large, white and towering. It stood in the centre of London. Golden lights through windows that covered the body like squared eyes. People walked in and out and the whole place buzzed with life. Controlled life, structured life. Cameras and lights flashed. It was hard to escape the all-knowing glance that seemed to be everywhere.

Robert and Ravi were standing in a narrow street on the opposite of the building. They leaned against the wall, hidden from the shadows. Ravi stated: "That building is larger then I imagined." Robert responded: "Every kind of important organization has to shoo it in your face by building higher towers then everyone else."

"Great", responded Ravi, "What now? You cannot get in there. There are bandits everywhere and the place is guarded. They will have you captured faster before you can say monocane." Robert chewed on his lips. Zickzacking his gaze over the bandits that stood there, he responded: "Not if they think we are one of them."

Robert gave Ravi a knowing nod. He then slowly strolled down the streets, gazing around as if he was lost in his thoughts. The man had buried his hands in his pockets. Robert made sure to walk past the Daily Truth building. Come on! I am alone, you morons. Get moving.

He hoped his action was not too suspicious. On the other hand what did these men have to loose? Before their eyes walked what Tenebrae was after for so long. Their most wanted enemy. They could not let this chance go unwasted.

Tap, tap, tap. Robert pretended like he did not notice. Now we are getting somewhere. Hiding a short, almost Hyde-like smile, the young Doctor stopped by the end of the road. He heard the steps approaching, quickening. Then a new sound mixed with it. A pair of lighter feet, faster, smoother.

Robert heard a low thud, a weird surprise and as he turned around, he saw the bandit collapse. It was an ugly man, his seize with long, dirty clothes and an eye patch. Behind him stood Ravi, a brick in his hands. He dropped the heavy stone.

Both carefully picked up the unconscious man and carried him back into the next dark alley. There they laid him down. Robert eyed his clothes carefully. "Let's hope they are my seize", he murmured. Ravi politely turned his face away while Robert swapped his cloak for the cloak of the bandit and tied the eye patch over his own left eye. He placed the cap on his head.

"How do I look?", he asked. Ravi pressed a hand over his mouth to suppress a giggle. Snorting with laughter, his younger brother said: "You look great. Really." "It means you look hideous", Hyde responded. Robert could feel his alter ego already partly boiling up. He knew he was needed.

Sighting, the young Doctor responded: Thanks, Hyde. I do not need the translation nor your pun. Robert reached into his pockets and pulled out a small bottle, filled with a red liquid. Red for Hyde. His grandfather's original potion.

Robert held the bottle up. Eyeing it, he said: "You once asked me: What is it that you fear? What are you so afraid off? I thought, I feared Hyde. But I was wrong. I do not fear Hyde anymore. Because a loss is far greater then anything he could ever do. Then I could ever do, Olalla." And with these words, Robert opened the bottle and took a deep sip of the red liquid.

Almost as soon as he had swallowed, Hyde took a hold with a firm grip. Robert gasped. His heart skipped a few beats, before a sharp pain made him bent over. His eyes widened and the blood boiled. His veins convulsed, darkening around his eyes. Ravi quickly stepped away when his brother fell on the ground.

When he stood up again, his movements were slower. Hyde yawned as if this could relax his face. He slowly tilted his head, cracking his neck, and felt muscles and bones jump into place. The cyan fire of his eyes slowly retreated and they gained Robert's dark brown again.

Hyde gave Ravi a bestialic and diabolic smile. "Come on, Ravi", he stated and lifted a small rope to tie his brother's hands behind his back, "Let's get Olalla out of there, before she does something we'll all regret."
