Jeffory's POV
I wake up to sirens going off all over campus. "What's happening?!" I ask Travis as he runs towards the window. "There's a fire." He says as I quickly get out of bed, not wearing a shirt. "What?! Where?!" I ask as I look out the window too. "Middle of campus." He says calmly. "How can you be so calm?!" I ask while putting my shoes on. "This happened to me all the time at home." He says while he puts on a jacket, and walks out the door. I run out the door, forgetting I wasn't wearing a shirt, and knock on Katelyn's door. "Coming." Katelyn says lazily as Aphmau hops out of bed. She opens the door, and looks at me in confusion. "There's a fire, come here." I say partially out of breath. She quickly grabs her shoes, an both her and Aphmau follow me outside. They look terrified at the sight of orange flames engulfing the middle of campus. I put my arm around Katelyn, and Aaron comes running towards us. "Aphmau... I thought you were.." He says out of breath. Aphmau hugs him, and we all stare at the fire trucks trying to put out the fire.

Katelyn's POV
Wait a second.. That was the spot where me and Jeffory looked at the fireworks!! "Jeffory... That was.." I say while walking closer to the fire. "Katelyn?.." Jeffory asks while following me. "I- MY BOOK!!" I yell while running straight towards the fire. "KATELYN!!" Jeffory yells while running towards me. I jump over a little bit of the fire, and I go through the partially burning bushes. "WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!" Jeffory asks nervously as he puts his hands in his hair. I don't respond, an I keep running towards the spot where Jeffory and I looked at the fireworks. I pick up my book, and the fire surrounds me. That's it, I'm gonna die. I fall to my knees, and the fire quickly spreads closer to me. "KATELYN!!!!!!!" Jeffory yells while he quickly makes his way through the fire. I start to feel my legs get burnt, and then everything goes black.

Jeffory's POV
NO NO NO!!! I run straight through the fire, getting burnt everywhere, and I pick up Katelyn while making my way out. "HELP!" I yell while falling to the ground, looking at Katelyn with tears in my eyes. Aphmau and Aaron run straight towards us, and Aaron picks Katelyn up, while Aphmau helps me stand up. "...Thanks.." Was all I could say before Aaron and Aphmau took us to the hospital.

Katelyn's POV
I wake up in a hospital bed with tubes and wires connected to me. I look to my side, and my book is sitting on the table. Thank goodness. Aphmau looks at me, and she hugs me in relief. "You're okay!!" She says happily as she starts to tear up. "...Wait... What happened?.." I ask, my voice raspy. "You pretty much sacrificed yourself into the fire." Aphmau says a she chuckles with tears stained to her cheeks. "Is Jeffory alright?" I ask, my voice getting less raspy. She nods, and she wipes her eyes on her sleeve. I look at my arms, and they're black, and covered in scars. "Why did you go into the fire?.." Aphmau asks, breaking the silence. "Oh... That." I say while trying to point to the book on the table next to my bed. She quickly picks up the book, and she flips through the pages. "I left it there yesterday." I say while Aphmau nods, still flipping through the pages. "...It was the only thing left of Jeffory's that I had after I broke up with him.." I say as my eyes start filling with tears. "But you still have him Katelyn." Aphmau says in a comforting way while smiling. She places the book back onto the table, and I grab it. I flip to the first page, and it's a picture of me and Jeffory in First Grade. I hear the door open, and I see Jeffory walk in, smiling at me. I quickly shut the book, as Aphmau leaves the room. "...I thought I lost you.." Jeffory says as he sits on my bed, next to my feet. "..I-I'm sorry.." I say as he picks up the book on my stomach. "This is what you risked your life for?.." He asks as I nod. He chuckles, and he opens to the middle of the book. "At least you did it for this." He says as he places the book back on the table. "Jeffory... Why did you save me?.." I ask while my eyes start to fill with tears. "Katelyn.. I like you, and I would never just watch one of my friends die.." He says as he hugs me. "But... Your face." I say as I point at the giant black burn on his face. "That doesn't matter, what matters is that your alive." He says as he kisses me. I kiss back, but he breaks it quickly because of the nurse that walks into the room. "Sorry! I just needed to tell you that you will be released in a couple of hours!" The nurse says as he grabs some pills on the counter, and then walks out of the room. I chuckle, and then Jeffory kisses my forehead, and he asks "Need anything?" "Nope, just stay here with me until I get to leave." I say as he nods, and smiles. Three days into college, and I'm already in the hospital.
