Chapter 1: Good Taste
"Hoi! Here's your prescription, Polly!" The pharmacist handed a bag of medicine to the lawyer.
"Thank you, Miss Scones," the lawyer said, taking the bag, "And it's not mine, it's for my boss. He's been having back pain recently and this should help him."
"That's right, you work for that famous lawyer, Wrighty, right?" Delicia Scones asked.
"I do," Apollo told her.
"He's my Daddy!" the girl dressed in magician's clothing next to Apollo interjected.
"I should have known," Ms. Scones said, "you're a lot like him, TruTru!"
"Thank you!" Trucy said to the woman.
Apollo brought the bag to his side. "Well, Trucy and I should be going now. We don't want to keep Mr. Wright waiting for too long, do we Trucy?"
"Wait!" Trucy cried out, "Polly, can you buy me a piece of candy?" The girl has her eyes on the selection of sweets displayed by the counter. "I've heard they are delicious!"
"Yessie, they are!" Ms. Scones cheerfully stated. "Especially the ones made by Jeffy!"
"Jeffy?" Apollo asked, unfamiliar with the name.
"Jeffrey Master!" Trucy told him. "He's the best candy-maker in the world!"
"Yessie, he is!" Ms. Scones agreed. "I once knew Jeffy before he became a near household name. His sweets are so good I can't help but gobble them up! That's why I decided to stock them here in my store! Well, and also for the customers."
"What kind of candy does he make?" Apollo questioned, a bit interested in the subject.
"All kinds!" Ms. Scones answered. "Lollipops, chocolate bars, jellybeans, gumdrops, taffy, bubblegum, he's a confection genius! Just look at some of his products."
Apollo knelt down to get a better look at the selection of candy. "Daffy Taffy, Delicious Dip, Tinies, Geeks..."
"Oh!" Ms. Scones interrupted Apollo's browsing by going into the back of her pharmacy. She back with a large box. "I forgot to put out today's delivery! Jeffy's got a new one! The Master Delight Bar!"
"The Master Delight Bar?" Apollo asked as Trucy was eyeing the box.
"Yessie!" Ms. Scones pulled out two chocolate bars. "You two have been so nice, take one! On the house!"
Apollo thought for a moment and decided to try it. Trucy also took hers. As they opened their bars, Ms. Scones took out a third and tried it with them. Trucy and Ms. Scones hummed in delight as Apollo smiled. "That's actually pretty good," he praised.
"How does he make them so good?" Trucy questioned with a slightly full mouth.
Ms. Scones swallowed her bite. "My dear girl, do you ask a fish how it swims?"
"No," Trucy answered.
"Or a bird how it flies?" Ms. Scones continued.
"No," Trucy repeated.
"No sirree, you don't!" Ms. Scones told her. "They do it because they were born to do it! Just like Jeffy was born to be a candy-maker, and you look like you were born to be a magician!"
"In a way, I was," Trucy stated.
"Well then, you shouldn't keep Wrighty waiting," Ms. Scones said. "Have a nice day!"
Apollo and Trucy nodded, taking the prescription and their Master Delight bars with them. As they left, Delicia took another bite of her own bar.
"The world tastes good," she said aloud, "because Jeffy thinks it should."
