Karthik rested his hands on his knees and panted. As his breathing steadied, He stood straight and stretched his limbs to adjust his body out of the vigorous jog. It's been 2 days after the 'Great Goenka reveal' and from then, Karthik was never peaceful. He juggled himself with his work, taking care of a pregnant Naira, playing with Kairav, to keep himself busy. But he was unsuccessful in his mission to distract himself. As soon as he lay to sleep, the face of his baby sister, when she was just 20 day old filled his brain. And even if he barely slept with difficulty, her cries became his nightmare. He sneaked from bed without waking Naira and assigned himself to sweat out calories along with Ragini's painful memories in the early morning at 6 am.

Karthik's mobile beeped a message. He pulled it out from the pockets of his track pant. As expected, It was his sister Ragini

"Bhai, Can we meet before you leave... Pleasseeeee"

A sullen smile appeared on his face. It was almost hundredth time Ragini was sending him message with one or the other silly queries, like;

Bhai, If I come to Delhi anytime soon, Where will I able to get the best Khulad Chai???

Bhai, do you like Titanic??

Bhai , How was your first kiss???

Karthik sighed. These were silly ones, but also the most basic ones she wanted to know about her brother. He too wanted to know a ton about her, He wanted to gift her favourites on Rakshabandhan, and He wanted to pacify her when she would complain about her fights with Laksh. In a few days, He really wanted to live a life as Ragini's brother. He believed that they had forever as siblings. But No, He had to cut off her for a while, at least for her peace.

That doesn't mean that Karthik would ignore his sister's message. He never did, He promptly replied them and even asked counter questions.

Ya Dear, We will meet as soon as I finalise my departure date. How about a only Bhai- Behen date?? No spouses.. What say?

Karthik replied and smiled at image on his mobile wall paper, a candid picture of him Naira, Kairav and Ragini, clicked by Mauli Bua.

Karthik was startled by the hustles behind him. He turned to see two silhouettes moving, covering their heads, approaching the main gate. He followed them without being noticed. Karthik peeped outside the main gate to see his parents getting in a car, in a very sneaky mood.

" Sun, Babu" His father called out their driver. "You dropped us at the Mandir, Understood??? That should be your answer."

Babu replied with a curt nod

"Karthik shouldn't know about this visit of ours," His mother blurted out. "He warned us against meeting them"

"Ji madam, App hoo kar ayiye, Yahan hum sambhaloonga" Babu assured.

Karthik's parents got into the vehicle and rushed in lighting speed.

Karthik stood at his place, with panic in his heart.

"Are they going to meet Ragini??" fear filled in Karthik. "No... they can't meet her, I won't allow them to hurt her anymore". A determined Karthik sprinted back to his house, to fetch his car keys.

Karthik entered the main dining hall in rage.

"Karthik .." Mauli Bua called out.

Karthik moved in without paying heed to his aunt. Mauli bua sensed a foul play and was about to follow him . Karthik returned , to the hall, descending the stair case in hurry. anger stricken face worried Mauli and Dadaji, who happened to enter the hall after his routine morning prayers.

"Karthik !!!" Mauli caught hold of his elbow.

" Bua, Chodo mujhe, I am in a hurry" Karthik said in a whisper, trying to suppress his anger.

" Kahan???"" Mauli enquired

" Ragini se milne" Karthik gritted his teeth

" kya Hua Ragini ko?? Is my girl fine??" Mauli panicked

" Mom aur Dad Usse milne gayi hai.!!!" Karthik screamed " Aur kya bura hona hai us ke saath"

"What ???!!" Dadaji and Mauli said in unison.

"Haa..." Karthik asserted. " Subah Subah Sabko bewakoof bana kar chale gayi... and they told Babu to inform us that he dropped them at the Mandir.." Karthik was frustrated. Hot tears came down his eyes . He wiped the with his cuff .

" Par Is baar, I won't allow them to hurt my Ragini, *sniff* not this time" Karthik wagged his finger.

" Wait a minute Karthik" Dadaji interrupted. "How do you know that they went to see Ragini??"

Karthik narrated the events that took place a while ago. Dadaji called Babu and enquired about the whereabouts of Janaki and DD

"I dropped them at the Mandir BadeSaheb" Babu lied bluntly. "They will call after they are done with their prayers.

"Look Babu Bhaiyya, I am very serious," Karthik tried to suppress his anger. "Cut this shit and tell me only the truth. I heard Mom and Dad instructing you to lie about them."

"Nahi Karthik Baba, I am not lying, Kasam se" Babu caught his adam's apple to prove his point religiously. " DD Saheb aur Janaki Madam went to mandir" Babu parroted

" I am leaving Dadaji, Anyway I can trace them with their location" Karthik grew frustrated and turned away.

Ashok Goenka warned Babu about the consequences of the matter, if he is found lying. Babu's tie broke as his Bade Saheb took in charge of warning session.

" DD sahib and Janaki Maam went Gadodia Mansion" Babu blurted out in fear.

" Gadodia Mansion???" A spark of confusion flew through Karthik. " Why???" Karthik questioned

" What do you mean 'Why' Beta , Shekhar aur Sharmishta, Dheendhayal aur Janaki Bahu ki dost hai" Dadadji tried his luck with explaining things to burning grandson

"Friends???" Karthik chuckled "Until we came to Kolkata, I never knew that my parents had friends too...." Karthik mocked

"Dadaji, I told them not to involve with the people around Ragini," Karthik growled, still they went to see them??? .. And you want me to believe that this is just a kitty party???"

"Let's go There" Mauli proposed. "If they went to the Gadodias , Even when Karthik forbid us to do so, I think there is something wrong"

" Ha Bua , Lets Go" Karthik held Mauli's hand and started to leave

" I am also coming with you" Dadaji announced." They didn't even inform me about this visit, which is not going down with me in ease"

Karthik nodded and rushed to his car.

Janaki Goenka sat on the spacious sofa of Gadodias with her husband next to her and her long time 'friend' Sharmistha Bose nee Gadodia sat on another the sofa, facing them. Sharmishta being an impressive hostess packed the teapoy with a dozen varieties of Bengali and Marwari snacks. Sharmishta, who used to be that tomboy at college, is now the graceful Bengali Bahu of the mighty Marwari Gadodias. She was gracefully draped in a white printed floral chiffon Saree with red blouse. Her look was completed with simple stead jhumkas and a traditional Rajasthani Mangalsutra. Simple and elegant.

" Chai lo na, Janaki" Sharmishta broke Janaki's thoughts.

"Hmm Yeah" Janaki took up a tea cup and sipped slowly. "No one at home??"

" Maa ji and my Maa went to temple , Aayush is on an official trip and Shekhar, is in his study." Sharmishta said casually

Janaki was feeling suffocated, She squeezed her fingers to calm herself. She took a quick glance at DD, who was sipping his tea, quite uncomfortably. He made good efforts to maintain his composure. But his eyes mirrored a longing stare.

"What made you come here, Janaki" Sharmishta said in a clipped tone. She dint even try to mask her disappointment with Janaki.

"I thought we are friends, Shomi.." Janaki smiled at Sharmishta

"I am sorry Janaki, but after getting to know what happened to Ragini, I find it difficult to address our friendship." Sharmishta stated bluntly.

Janaki smiled with a sad twitch on her lips.

"What happened to you???" Sharmishta saw Janaki with disgust." You always wanted a baby girl right??? You wanted to rise her like a princess, comb her hair, dress her with white frocks, red bow bands, Then why did you do this your daughter??? Why did you just throw her out"

" Shomi..." Janaki's voice cracked, "You would have done the same, if you were in my position , I was threatened with my Parent's life, My sister Urvashi's life." Janaki tried to justify herself

"Annapurna Di lost her husband, to save your child's life. And Even I would have done the same. I wouldn't have let my baby suffer like this just for anyone's threatening, nor would my parents or Shekhar let us do the same, even if their lives were on line." Sharmishta's unflinching determination shook Janaki. An unknown fear crept in Janaki's heart. Sharmishta would risk anything for her 'daughter'

"Maybe, I am not like you" Janaki's throat squeezed her words. "Leave it Na ,Shomi, Its all over"

Sharmishta looked at Janaki in disbelief, then composed herself

"Aayush is your eldest child and Swara , the second one, Where is the third one, your youngest daughter, whom you were due with, When I had Ragini.??" Janaki changed the topic to the topice she is interested in.

Sharmishta's face darkened and eyes became slightly moist. She looked away to hide her emotions

" Arrey, Shomi, Madhurima told me that your younger daughter was here, Just felt to meet her, Just wanted to see how lucky she is that she was born as the 'daughter of Sharmishta , not Janaki's." Janaki mocked. "What was her name??"

"Swarna" Sharmishta whispered. Her eyes welled up. " Swarna Shekhar Gadodia" Sharmishta named her daughter clearly.

Heat in Janaki's heart raised up. A creepy mixture of fear and happiness accompanied that name.She readily wanted to meet her, Swarna Gadodia or to say Sonia Goenka

" Where is she??" DD was impatient

Sharmishta raised her eyebrows in bewilderment.

" Woh , DD wanted to see her, And we are here to bid farewell before leaving to Delhi, just wanted see your girl, as we are here" Janaki stumbled with irregular sentence. "Where is she??" Janaki exhaled sharply.

"She is everywhere" Sharmistha spoke in glint in her eyes.

" I din't get you" Janaki was confused

"She is not with us anymore" Sharmishta sighed

Janaki and DD looked at each other with worry

"What do you mean??" Janaki raised her voice. Sharmishta raised her eye brow at her tone. " I mean, Madhurima told me that she saw both of your daughters here, in your house"

"Madhurima actually got confused with seeing Ragini and Swara together. She thought Ragini was my younger daughter. Ragini comes here once in a while with Swara Na" Sharmishta voice broke while explaining. "Many of our friends had the same issue. Madhu told them she saw my younger Daughter, and many of friends wanted to meet her. I recently cleared this confusion with Madhu, to be exact this morning."

Janaki's heart ached for two reasons. One was for the fact that Sharmishta was confirming about her daughter and there other was for her daughter

"So where exactly is 'your' younger daughter???" Janaki let out the words from her mouth with unease.

Sharmishta tilted her head to the corner of the hall, a portion where, idols of Krishnaji was kept. Adjacent to the idol, there were three photos with garlands. The first two were of an old men, presumably Shekhar and Sharmishta's fathers. Next to them was the photo of a teenage girl, with a smile which translated the complete happiness in the world. Janaki's heartbeat stopped for a moment.

" That is my Swarna." Sharmishta got up from the sofa and walked toward the photo. Janaki and DD sat with numbness engulfing them.

" She was just fifteen, " Sharmishta sighed "Such a lovely girl, who spread happiness around her , she was life. Ten years back, she passed away in car accident"

"Mishti........" Shekhar Gadodia's voice boomed from his study

"Excuse me .." Sharmishta wiped her tears and moved towards the study, leaving behind Janaki and DD to melt in pain.

Janaki forced her up on her feet and walked to the photo of Swarna Goenka. Tears forming in her eyes blurred her vision. There was only a feet distance between Janaki and the photo. Janaki lost the strength on her legs and fell down.

DD came out of his trance to see his wife floor and rushed to her support. He knelt down and covered her in his arms, with tears spilling out from his eyes too.

" DD.....What just happened???" Janaki sobbed. " Our Daughter, she is no more... What all we did to secure her life??" Janaki cried out. DD Goneka shut his eyes in pain.

"We swapped our little Daughter with Sharmishta's daughter at birth, So that our Daughter lives a happy life... But look at this dread fate.."Janaki snivelled.

" WHAT??????" Janaki and DD turned to the familiar voice.

" So whats the plan??" Sanskar was licking up his second chocobar.

"Basically, we need to surprise them." Ragini was licking her mango bar. "Swara told me that Aayush bhaiyya is re-designing his room to incorporate Rucha's like'too. So he is going on with the revamp of furniture. We need do to something connecting to the furniture."

The great Jeth by Ten Minutes and His Raghu Rani has been out for the mandatory morning walk in .Sanskar took an off day from his busy schedule as he felt that he need to have some time with his family especially Ragini after the drama ensued few days back. So they split into 2 pairs of friends that day. Laksh and Swara went park for jogging, While Sanskar took Ragini for a walk. The only problem with the 'walk' was that there was no real 'walk' happening. Ragini and Sanskar found themselves near the ice cream point just 100m away from Maheshwari Mansion. They sat on a bench and licked on their ice creams

Ragini briefed her plans and Sanskar gave thumbs up for their plan to surprise Aayush and Rucha for their engagement.

" Raghu, Karthik called me yesterday" Sanskar carefully said.

Ragini nodded attentively and looked down.

" So he is talking to everyone barring me" Ragini sighed. "Yesterday he spoke to Laksh" Ragini clearly sounded disappointed.

"Raghoooo.... Hey" Sanskar caught her chin. Ragini's eyes dropped few tears. "Yaar.... don't be like this.." Sanskar engulfed Ragini into a protective hug. Ragini sniffed on his shoulder.

"Just understand him Na....." Sanskar pacified her. "Karthik is under extreme guilt and it will take time for him to entirely free himself from this situation and face you as your brother." Ragini nodded in response.

" Even then He can't keep himself away from you, He his making sure than you are happy by calling up me, Laksh an Swara..." Sanskar took her hands and squeezed. "Maybe by the time of our Chotte Laksh or Ragini's birth, Maamu will come running to meet his sister and niece/nephew"

"He will come back to see me Na??" Ragini looked into Sanskar's eyes

" he will definitely be back for you" Sanskar assured. "Pata hai, Me , Kunal and Gautham once discussed that how we naturally have that urge to protect you as a sister. So think about Karthik, "

" I find this very unfair. We had to be away from each other for more than twenty years because of 'them' " Ragini gritted her teeth while utter 'them' "and when we finally meant, We are made to stay away again." Ragini pouted

"Just for the time being.." Sanskar pacified her

" Thankfully he is replying to my messages" Ragini said with a slight smug . "He said that we will meet before he leaves Kolkata"...

" That's Nice " Sanskar clapped " Us Baat Pe ,One more ice cream??"

"Yup... " Ragini jumped in excitement " Butterscotch cone for me"

"Bhaiyya... 2 Butterscotch cones..." Sanskar ordered

"Tum na yeh ice cream ki ginthi Laksh ko math batana" Ragini warned Sanskar as they settled with their butter scotch cones

" Marna hai kya mujko??" Sanskar rolled eyes "why should we let out the details of our date to them??"

"Acha Jethji hai Mera" Ragini stroked Sanskar's hair.

" Ragho Rani.."

" Hmmm"

"are you fine now??"

Ragini smiled at Sanskar. He was rather surprised about her reaction. It was not that she dint understand what he meant by that particular question.

"I am awesome now" Ragini beamed. "Initially, when I found out about them, I felt I was shattered. I felt that all my dreams of having my own family just burst like a bubble. But later I realised that I was being obsessed with the thought of 'blood relatives. But I should have realised that if Laksh and Badi maa was trying to keep them away from me, they were not be mingled. But now i don't need any blood relation tag. Its just that we should have people who loves us around, rather than being stuck with this blood thing. And I have a hell lot of mad people like you who loves me for being Ragini, not a Goenka." Ragini exposed her shinny white teeth

"Who told you that I love You...??" Sanskar played as if he was baffled

"Ehhh??"

"Why should I love an annoying and irritating creature like you.... I just hate You" Sanakar shrugged his shoulders and concentrated on his ice cream

Ragini was perplexed by his statement at looked at her Jeth by ten minutes in shock. She composed herself fairly fast and made up her mind to answer him

" Oh come On" Ragiini caught his shoulder. "You should show some respect to me.... Who else would be willing to be the patient to a farzi doctor like you"

" Farzi Doctor????" Sanskar screamed and caught Ragini's ear lobe. "How dare you call me a 'Farzi Doctoer"

"Aaah..." Ragini winced in pain. " Leave me Sanskaar... Arrey look Laksh's Car. Laksh and Swara are Back.." Ragini panicked

She and Sanskar was supposed be on a walk.Ragini and Sanskar threw off their cones. Ragini felt bad that she had to ditch half of her ice cream , and Sanskar felt worse he let go of his chocolate end of his to the waste. Sanskar quickly sprinkled water droplets on Ragini from their bottle and camouflaged their ice cream look into something that looked like the closure of their 'sweaty walk session.'

Laksh pulled the brakes of his vehicle when he reached Ragini and Sanskar. Swara jumped out of the car and ran to Ragini

" Ragini...." Swara squeaked " We had an awesome date Man....We had Khulad chai from dabba after our jog, What did you both do??

"We both walked down the lanes and did Yoga ...only 2 months for her delivery, this will help" Sanskar lied bluntly and winked at Ragini

"Are you tired" Laksh side hugged Ragini " You are all sweaty." Laksh wiped off Ragini' 'sweat drops' with his handkerchief

"Ahh.. h. I am fine" Ragini muttered

"She worked hard today" Sanskar tapped Ragini's shoulder. " So after a while her Jeth by ten minutes is going to take her for an ice-cream date" Sanskar announced.

" Wow... Thats going to be fun.." Swara springed up on her feet

" Yup... Let's Go" Laksh also got excited

"Oh.. Hello Hello... it's our date," Sanskar interrupted them " Me and My Ragho Rani will go on date...Tum log bad mein jao " Sanskar held Ragini's Shoulder , pushing Laksh aside.

" Ha...Its a RagSan Date..." Ragini backed. " Let's plan the flavours we got to taste, Chalo Jethji" Ragini and Sanskar marched into the gates on Maheshwari leaving behind Swara and Laksh , with their mouths open long.

This is not real. It's just a nightmare. He was the victim of them for past few days. The worst of its kind. He tapped his cheeks to wake him up from this bad dream. No use. He found himself to be standing at the door steps of Gadodias. He is witnessing his mother confessing something absurd that the girl in the photo with garland is her daughter.

He tried to sum up the premises. The girl in photo with garland is technically The youngest Gadodia girl Swarna Gadodia, sister to Swara and Aayush. His mother just claimed that she swapped that kid, who she allegedly gave birth with Ragini, who is supposed to be the daughter of Sharmishta Aunty. Calculating the facts clearly, the result is that Swarna Gadodia is his sister and Ragini is the youngest daughter of Gadodia.The truth of his thoughts sank in his heart like a dagger pierced into his chest

"My Ragini.." Karthik's mouth whispered automatically.

"What!!!???" His Dadaji, Mr. Ashok Goenka's voice boomed in his ears, bringing him back to this filthy situation. He slowly turned to his Bua for support. But she stood there numb, as if someone 'paused' her with a remote.

" What did you just say Janaki???" Karthik's grandfather roared.

His mother Janaki got up on her feet, with his father still supporting her. She glared directly into Ashok Goenka's eyes. arthik saw someone different in his mother's unflinching gaze, filled with rage and hatred. He never saw his parents straightening their head up in front of Dadaji, let alone say look into his eyes. He always saw a uncanny fear in their eyes infront of Dadaji. But right now, at that moment, the fire in the eyes of his mother had the power to destroy the whole Goenka Empire

"Did you just say that you swapped your daughter with your friend's??" Dadaji screamed. "how could you do that?? How can you call yourself a mother after doing such heinous crime??

His mother chuckled in disgust. Karthik was already hanging light with the revelation , and Dadaji's words were confusing Karthik

" The Daughter of Goenkas was supposed to life a life like orphan till 24 years, to secure the life of her brother and you swapped her??? Don't you even love your Son??? You endangered his life by breaking the rules set by our Godman??? Are you even a mother???" Dadaji accused

"You mean Karthik's mother??" Janaki Goenka snapped.

Karthik was taken aback by the sharpness of his mother's words. He saw his Dadaji melting down like a candle , being back answered by his bahu.

" I wanted to be a good mother to both of my children, especially to Daughter. " Janaki growled. " But the God Damn Bullshit inside your superstitious brain left us with no other choice." Janaki threw her hand in air.

"You said that my Daughter should live like an orphan till the age of 24, so that your heir can live on a prosperous life. You said that she will not die till her brother is alive. And after 24 years of a hell of life , we can bring her back and make her live a spinster???..I never wanted such a dreadful life for my kid." Janaki hissed

"Me and DD decided to live our life with Karthik and our daughter away from you and your superstitions. But there also you threatened us with lives of our loved ones. " Janaki huffed

"I was worried till my delivery date; the thought of my daughter living a life like this burned me." A tear drop rolled down janaki's cheeks

" But God was with me. He made Sharmishta admitted in the same hospital, she too had a girl. That time , I just wanted my Baby girl to live a peaceful life. So with a heavy heart I replaced Sharmishta's daughter with mine. That's it. I wanted my daughter to live a life like a princess. I knew Sharmishta would take care of her children very well. And meanwhile , Her daughter could play the role of the ill fated Goenka daughter I thought that after many years, when my Daughter is big enough, I will go meet her, just like Mother's friend.... But." Janaki paused for a second." But look at the fate. God just punished me. He took my girl away without even letting me see her another wink." Janaki broke down on her knees

" Its all because of you Bauji, That we lost our Daughter..." DD accused Ashok Goenka

"Aur Ragini??" Karthik asked in a clipped tone

Janaki and DD looked at him.

"What about Ragini??? " Karthik screamed. "If your birth daughter was to suffer this fate of living like an orphan, we could atleast sum up that Our ancestors were pagan and brainless. Our parents were coward. But, what about Ragini?? Why did she have to suffer???"

Janaki stood up and walked to Karthik with DD. She tried to cup his face. Karthik moved away

" Beta..." Janaki called and tried to face him.

Janaki was yanked by her elbow and slapped across her face. Karthik looks at person who threw his mother on grounds. Normally Karthik would have pulled the house upside down if someone misbehaves at his mother. His breath was heavy . He felt weak in front of her. He looked at her, His mother's unfortunate friend, who would now be cursing herself for his mother's friend once upon a time.

"Laksh..." Ragini called out..." Please tie this dori for me na, i can't reach it." Ragini out stretched her arms to reach out for the dori.

Laksh threw the magazine that He has been 'reading' for long. He came near Ragini and tied up her dori without a word and started to march back to the bed.

"Still angry" Ragini held his elbow. He released his hand forcefully

" Why should I be angry??" Laksh shot back

"Because we dint take you for ice cream date." Ragini stated

"Oh Noo.... how can low lives like me come in between Raghu rani and her Great Jeth by ten minutes" Laksh folded his arms. He turned his back on Ragini.

Ragini chuckled at his reaction

" What?? Laksh looked at her annoyed. " What is so funny?

" You look cho cute while you are jealous" Ragini pinched Laksh's cheek

"I.AM..NOT.JEALOUS!!" Laksh flared.

"Prove It.." Ragini challenged, resting her hands on her waist

Laksh was confused. He couldn't figure out how to prove that he was not jealous. Ragini instigated him further by raising her eyebrows.

In a split of moment, a thought crossed his mind. He cupped her face in a second and the next second, His lips crushed on hers.

After spending quality time exploring each other's lips, wildly Laksh let Ragini free and claimed "See,I am not jealous"

Ragini roared into a heavy laughter " Didn't you just prove that you were jealous???"

"No..." Laksh was stern

"You were so wild that I felt you were taking revenge" Ragini adjusted herself into Laksh's arms and rested her head on his chest, still mumbling up her laughter. Laksh wrapped his arms over her

"You always keep me out..." Laksh whined. "Now its Sanskar and when baby come. You will team up with him against me."

" Arey, How can you say that I am teaming up with Sanskar, You also went on a date with Swara right" Ragini raised her head to his chin

Laksh clipped his lips tight as he could answer her.

"You guys dint take us to park too" Ragini complained

" Ok... I admit I was jealous" Laksh admitted and rested his head on hers.

" That's like my Boy," Ragini chuckled. Now untie the dori and tie it again, you tied it so tight" Ragini turned her back at Laksh

Laksh removed her dori and tied it again, slowly, giving his wife ticklish touches and planting a wet kiss on her bare nape. Ragini flinched. This always felt new for her. It's been a while after their marriage, now they are going to be parents, but his touches were always new and electrified her.

Laksh place his chin on Ragini's shoulder

"Mujhe manane mein tum Mahir Ho" Laksh hugged Ragini from Back "I have seen you tying up your Dori beautifully without my help"

" And still you came to help... That means you love me.." Ragini turned to Laksh and looked into his eyes. " I only want you Laksh... Nothing else matter to me until you are with me.. No family roots, No parents, nothing ... But You...I Love You "

" I love You too" Laksh pulled Ragini into a tight hug. " But I won't forgive you for cornering me out for the ice cream date"
