Nightmares
Marinette walked to school the next day with a slight limp. It was barely noticeable unless you were watching her very carefully. Marinette assumed that today would be a normal day at school, but she was dead wrong.
As soon as she arrived in her classroom, her entire class swarmed her and began to ask her questions about her and Chat Noir.
"Is it true that you are dating Chat Noir?"
"What's he like?"
"How'd you guys meet?"
"Come on, spill Marinette!"
"What about Adrien? Aren't you dating him?"
Marinette's face flushed a bright red as she tried to answer their questions. Why are they asking me about Chat?
"I don't, uh...No!... I mean...it's nothing like that guys!" She stammered.
"It's less painful if you just admit it." Alya said. "Also I want all the deets."
"Come on, Marinette."
"Say it!"
Marinette saw that Adrien had turned around to see what was going on. Marinette locked eyes with his and silently pleaded for help.
At first, Adrien turned his head to the side in thought and was going to speak up. But his Chat Noir sense was aching to get loose. He smirked as he heard his fellow classmate speak up and faced Marinette again.
"Come on, Marinette. Tell us more!"
"Yeah Marinette. Please do tell us more." Adrien said with the most innocent look on his face, his grin begging for a punch to the face. Marinette let out a small gasp in response and furrowed her brow. She narrowed her eyes at him.
You are so dead. She thought, glaring at him. Adrien tried hard not to laugh at how cute of a face Marinette was making.
Marinette remained silent the rest of the class that day. When school got out, she briskly walked home, ignoring the pain that was slowly building back in her ankle. She heard a few people call out her name, including Adrien, but she ignored them as she pushed the bakery door open.

That night, there was an akuma attack, but they were easy to defeat. Ladybug had disappeared immediately after she cleansed the akuma, while Chat had his back turned.
"Good job, M'lad-... Ladybug?" Chat turned around to fist bump his partner, but she was nowhere to be seen.
"Ladybug?"
"Marinette?"
"M'lady?"
"Bugaboo?"
Chat called out to his partner as he wandered the streets of Paris. His miraculous beeped, signaling he was going to change back soon. Chat glanced at his ring. Two pads left. He couldn't just leave without knowing where Marinette went. He headed over to the Eiffel Tower, one of her favorite spots in Paris. Chat wondered around it for a little before he decided to climb.
When he reached the top, he could feel somebody else's presence. Chat cautiously made his way around the top, calling out Ladybug's name. Suddenly, he heard the familiar zip of the yo-yo. Chat snapped his head up to hear where it came from, but the yo-yo had wrapped around his legs. Ladybug stood in the dark shadows and swung Chat up against one of the poles, tying him to the tower.
Ladybug appeared a few seconds later, holding the yo-to string tight, pinning Chat against the metal pole. Ladybug had her back facing Chat and her arms crossed, one hand out like she was examining her nails. Chat remained silent it attempted to wriggle his way out of the string. Ladybug felt the struggle and tightened the sting on Chat. He tried to get out of the string again before his miraculous beeped. He would change back any second now.
"M'lady please! I'm about to detransform!"
"Gee, really? How interesting." Ladybug said sarcastically, she turned her head and glared at him. "Please, do tell me more." She continued to stare him down, daring Chat to say anything.
"Marinette!" Chat wailed as he saw a green flash move up his body. "I'm sorry! Please let me down!"
Ladybug squinted her eyes at the model before she tugged on her yo-yo, retracting the string and letting Adrien slide down the ground. Marinette released her transformation and stared him down with her arms crossed. Adrien ran up to her and threw himself at the ground next to her petite body.
"I'll never wrong you again!" He fake cried as he wrapped his arms around her legs. Her frown turned into a small victory smirk before she pat him on the head. Adrien looked up at her with puppy eyes. Marinette turned her head away quickly, trying to hide her growing smile and giggle.
"Marinette, I know you can't resist these eyes." Adrien said standing up. He placed a hand on her chin and turned her angelic face to look at him. She averted her gaze but was blushing like mad. Adrien leaned his head in closer, making Marinette's face grow redder, if it were possible. She was biting back a smile that eventually she couldn't hold back any longer. Her lips curved upward and she met Adrien's jade eyes. Adrien gave her small smile before Marinette spoke up.
"Just-just don't ever do that again." She stammered out, still trying to sound mad but failing miserably. Adrien smirked before meeting his smirk to her soft lips. It took Marinette by surprise, but she returned his affection as the pale moonlight shone about them atop the Eiffel Tower.

Adrien had transformed into Chat to take Marinette home. She insisted that she could get back as Ladybug, but Adrien swept her off her feet before she could transform. Marinette clung to Chats neck tightly as the two teens zipped through the star filled sky. She they reached the bakery balcony, Chat set Marinette down gently. Marinette quickly glanced around to see if anybody they knew was around. She didn't want another incident like last night happening where she was spotted with a superhero.
"Goodnight, Princess." Chat said, kissing the top of Marinette's inky blue hair before he extended his staff and disappeared into the night. She waved goodbye to him and sighed before she disappeared under her trap door.
"CHAT!" Ladybug screamed out as she watched her partner get thrown into the wall. He slumped over as he fell, not making any movement. Ladybug tried to run over to save him, but she wasn't going anywhere. No matter how much she tried to move her legs, she couldn't make any forward progress towards Chat. Instead he seemed to be getting farther away. Before he was out of range, Ladybug saw him whisper something as his eyes fluttered open, before they shut forever.
"You can do it, Bugaboo. I believe in you..." Chat's whisper was pained, but he gave one genuine smile before he rolled over and stopped moving.
"NOOOOO!" Ladybug let out a blood curling scream before she felt something grab her by the waist. The akuma had captured her and was taking her to an unfamiliar room. Tears streamed down the heroine's face as she struggled to get free, but Ladybug was out of energy and the akuma was strong. She was still sobbing when the akuma dropped her onto the cold, dark floor.
A deep chuckle could be heard from the corner of the room, and Ladybug whipped her head up to see who it was. A dark figure moved in the shadows before he advanced towards Ladybug. She backed away from the figure and tried to run to the door to the room, but the door had disappeared. There was no way out. The only possible way for her to escape would be for her to break the large circle window, but she had trapped herself on the other side of the room. The dark figure snapped his fingers and the akumatized victim grabbed her arms and pinned them behind her back. Ladybug hadn't even seen the akuma come towards her.
"Well, well, well, Ladybug, so good to see you." The deep voice said, as he made his way closer. Ladybug wriggled in the akumas grip, but she couldn't break free. "Who are you?" She managed to choke out, as she was still in tears from seeing her partner die.
"You don't know who I am? Well... This is a predicament. I k ow who you are, but you don't know me. What ever shall I do?" The voice teased as it's hand reached up to its chin and began to rub it thoughtfully.
" I know! I'll take your miraculous." The voice sneered as it reached a hand out to Ladybugs face. She jerked her head back, but the akuma forced it forward. Ladybug helplessly felt her earrings being removed as she spat the figures name.
"Hawkmoth." She tried to move her head away again, but it was no use. "You'll never get away with this!" She cried as she transformed back into Marinette.
"Oh but I already have, my dear. I already have." The voice chuckled as Marinette was thrown to the floor, tears flooding her face before-
"NOOO!" Marinette screamed. She was panting hard and her bed was damp. She must have been sweating. She looked over to see she had kicked off her blankets and pillows. Tikki glee up to Marinette, concern filling her blue kwami eyes.
"Are you okay, Marinette?" Tikki asked.
"I-I don't know..." Tears began to fill Marinette's eyes as Se explained to Tikki her nightmare.
"It was all so real. I thought I lost him forever. I thought that I had failed everybody." She sobbed as the kwami snuggled next to her cheek.
"It was only a dream Marinette. You'll see Adrien tomorrow don't worry." Tikki encouraged. Marinette forces a smile and grabbed one of her blankets off the ground before she laid back in bed.
The next morning, Marinette was early to school. She paced back and forth on the steps, waiting, hoping that Adrien would arrive. Her eyes were still a little puffy from the night before, and the redness was still slightly visible. It was getting time for the bell to ring, and Adrien still had not shown up yet.
"You okay, Mari?" Alya said, approaching her worried looking friend.
"Fine." Marinette muttered as she continued to pace. Alya gave her a skeptical look before she decided she should drop the subject. A silver car pulled up to the school and Adrien stepped out of the thanked his driver and turned around, only to be greeted by Marinette, who had run and basically threw herself on top of him. She began to sob as she buried her face into his shirt and wrap her arms tightly around him.
"We've only been apart for 10 hours and you miss this much already?" Adrien smirked. When he didn't receive a response, Adrien realized this was a more serious matter.
"Hey, you okay?" He asked, stroking her hair and placing a hand on her back, pulling her close and making circular, comforting motions with his hand.
She shook her head and continued to sob quietly, attempting to take deep breaths before she spoke.
"I-I-I thought I lost you." She finally managed to get out. Adrien lifted her head and stared into her red, puffy eyes. Adrien quickly glanced around and saw that people were staring, so he lead her away to a more empty part of the school.
"Tell me what happened. Who hurt you?" Adrien asked, concern inching into his face. Marinette began to slowly explain her nightmare to Adrien, about how she watched Chat die during an akuma battle, how helpless she felt as she was dragged away, and how she had ended up in Hawkmoth's lair, with her miraculous being taken away.
Adrien pulled her in close and rubbed her back, attempting to soothe her. She eventually stopped crying and the two teens just held each other close.
"It was just a nightmare, Princess. None of it was real. I'm right here. And I will always be there for you."
Adrien said in a calm, soothing voice as he looked at the fragile girl he was holding in his arms. Marinette stared into his eyes before she placed her lips onto his.
The bell rang, signaling it was time to get to class, so Adrien took Marinette's hand and squeezed it as they walked away to class together.
A red head had been in that same area the entire time, witnessing everything that was happening between the two. He heard every word that was exchanged. And now, he knew Ladybug and Chat Noir's identity.
