More Than A Sidekick

Adrien offered to take Marinette's homework to her after class got out. The teacher nodded and gave Adrien copies of the assignments. He stepped out into the blustery winter air. The sky was still gray from yesterday, but the threats of a snowstorm were nowhere in sight. Adrien walked along the hard sidewalks of Paris and examined all the shops. He had told Nathalie he has to stay after school for a project so he could go and talk to Marinette. She agreed, but warned him about the weather and to make sure he got back home safely.

As he wandered the streets for a few more minutes, he spotted a small coffee shop tucked in between two large buildings. Maybe something to cheer her up and break the news a bit easier. He thought as he pushed the door open. A tiny bell jingled, signaling the arrival of a customer.

A woman popped her head up from below the counter and greeted the model.

After receiving his drinks, Adrien stepped back out into the frigid winter air. It seemed to have gotten a bit colder, so he pulled the blue scarf he wore closer to his neck. Something itched at his face. He set the hot chocolates down on a small metal table outside the shop and examined the scarf. A small white tag was sticking up on the front of his scarf. He grabbed the tag and was about to rip it off when the god lettering caught his eye. He flipped the tag over and read the words, or rather name, that was sewn into the fabric. Marinette. Adrien's eyes widened and he rubbed them with his cold red fingers to make sure he was reading it right. Yup, the tag read his lady's name. I thought my dad gave me this scarf.

Adrien quickly picked up the drinks, warming his icy hands, and made his way briskly to the bakery. His designer jacket flapped in the wind as his steps became more hurried. (k you know those really nice jackets that guys wear that are like kinda thick and look fashionable and have two columns of buttons and usually have a collar? It's also really attractive when guys wear it? Know what I'm talking about?)

(THIS JACKET HES WEARING THIS JACKET )

Adrien pushed the door to the bakery open. He was greeted by the aroma of freshly baked pastries and croissants. A wave of heat fell onto Adrien, making him feel very at home.

"Hello, young man. What can we do for you today?" Mr. Dupain-Cheng greeted.

"Hello sir. Is Marinette here? I have some stuff I need to give her. School work." Adrien replied, hoping that Marinette was around.

"Ah yes, she's up in her room. She said she wasn't feeling well today so she skipped school. Poor thing. Must have been because she forgot her jacket yesterday." Tom said. Adrien cringed thinking about yesterday's events. "But you can go ahead and go up." Tom said, pointing to the stairs.

"Thank you, sir." Adrien said, heading up the stairs. He arrived at a trap door and knocked.

"Come in." A sweet voice called from the other side. Marinette was expecting Alya or her mother, but instead, a blonde popped his head up from the doorway. Marinette's eyes widened. There was no escaping him now.

"Hey Marinette," Adrien said, entering the room completely. "I, uh, brought by some school work that you missed today. And some hot chocolate. Thought it might, um, cheer you up?"

"Thanks." Marinette muttered, taking the homework and cup. Their hands touched briefly, and both teens blushed. Even though Marinette knew he was Chat, he was also Adrien, who she still had a crush on.

There was an awkward silence. It was quite uncomfortable for both of them. Adrien piped up, "so, about yesterday, I just wanted to say-"

"You don't need to say anything." Marinette's tone was almost as cold as the weather outside. Why was she being so bitter. He was only trying to be nice and explain. But Marinette was just so confused by everything. She couldn't really separate her emotions.

"Look, I'm probably the last person you want to see right now, and I understand that completely." Adrien explained. "But I still think we should talk about it." He emphasized the it so she knew what he is talking about.

Marinette looked at him and sighed. "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have talked to you like that. Or run away yesterday. I guess I'm just a little confused is all."

"Why are you confused?" Adrien asked, plopping himself down into the chaise.

"I guess I just don't know how a boy as perfect as you could be a flirtatious, pun making cat." She admitted. She gave a small smile as she looked at him. His soft green eyes stared back at her, absorbing her beauty.

"Then I guess we were both confused. I can't believe I didn't know it was you. The qualities were so similar." Adrien said.

"It's almost as if I was blinded by something...love" They both said. Shocked, they stared at each other. Then, Adrien started laughing.

"What's so funny?" Marinette asked.

"It's just, I guess we both know how the other one feels now." He said, taming his outburst. Marinette giggled and agreed. "Yeah. I guess we do." They began to chat for hours about everything that came to mind. Adrien mentioned the scarf that he was wearing, which Marinette noticed whenever he wore it. She always cheered knowing that he actually liked it, but was disappointed that he didn't figure out she made it sooner. Neither of the teens were stuttering as the conversation progressed. It was like they had known each other for years.

"So you mean to tell me you had pictures of me up in your room ever since I gave you that umbrella?" Adrien asked.

"Yeah, pretty creepy right?" Marinette laughed. She glanced at her wall and noticed that some of the were still up. Adrien followed her gaze and looked at the dozens of pictures of him. He smiled, knowing that his Ladybug had a crush on him.

"I still have that umbrella, by the way." Marinette said, getting off her bed and going to her closet. She pulled out the black umbrella and showed Adrien. "You can have it back if you want." She said, offering it to him. Adrien declined. "No, you keep it. Besides, I still have something that belongs to you." He fished around in his pocket and pulled out the charm bracelet she had given him when they were paired to be gaming partners a while ago.

"Seriously? You carry that around with you?" She asked, baffled that he would have even kept the bracelet.

"Black cats always have bad luck." He said with a wink. She giggled and they continued to talk more.

The time came for Adrien to leave. It saddened Marinette; she wished he could stay longer. After getting things sorted out, she was able to separate her emotions and decide how she really felt about the whole situation.

"Well, m'lady, until tomorrow" Adrien said, bowing and grabbing Marinette's hand, kissing it lightly. The girl blushed and replied, "Until next time, Chat." It was weird for her to see Adrien doing what he just did, but it just made Adrien all the more lovable.
