Jealous?

Marinette woke up early the next day. For once, she was excited to go to school. She didn't have to worry about stuttering or embarrassing herself in front of Adrien. She could just be herself. Tikki popped her head up.

"You're awfully cheery this morning..." Tikki said with a grin.

"That's because I don't have to worry about Adrien anymore. I can have a normal day at school!" Marinette replied, grabbing her pink jeans from her closet.

"Until Hawkmoth releases another akuma!" Tikki giggled, glad to see that for once, Marinette seemed genuinely happy. Marinette joined in the laughter and changed into her outfit. She grabbed her purse, and a jacket, let Tikki inside, and hopped down the stairs to eat breakfast.

"Goodmoring, Marinette! You actually have time to eat breakfast today!" Her mother joked, greeting her smiling daughter with a hug. Marinette giggled and bit into an apple. It's gonna be a good day. She thought.

It's gonna be a good day. Thought the red headed artist as he combed out his tomato red hair in the mirror. Today was the day he was going to ask Marinette out. Or at least for her phone number. Whichever he was more confident in doing. Nathanael sighed as he thought about Marinette. She was so perfect. He had drawn her almost 100 times because he could picture her all the time. That bright happy smile, those dazzling blue eyes. How could he ever forget them? He took one last look in the mirror before heading out the door.

A certain cat was thinking the same things about his Lady. The eyes, the smile, the whole shebang. Adrien smiled as he walked down the stairs to the large doors at the front of his house. No more stressing over Ladybug's identity. No more worrying about his affections being rejected. Everything was perfect.

"Adrien.... ADRIEN!" Plagg shouted. Adrien hummed in response, his thoughts still with Marinette.

"You didn't give me any cheese this morning." Plagg frowned. "You never forget to give me cheese."
Adrien did forget to give Plagg his daily energy this morning. He quickly ran to the fridge and pulled out a small wheel of Camembert cheese.

"Here." Adrien said, absent minded. He never gave Plagg full wheels, usually just slices.

"Wow you must really be out of it today. But I'm not complaining!" Plagg said, stuffing his face into the cheesy heaven. Adrien scooped up his black kwami and headed towards the limo, still dreaming about Marinette.

Marinette saw Alya standing by the stairs talking with Nino. Nino looked a bit flusted, but then Alya squealed and squeezed the poor DJ to death.

"Alya, release Nino. It looks like he's going to pass out!" Marinette called out, rushing to her friend's side. She released him and Nino started gasping for air.

"Good-grip.." He wheezed, trying to smile at Alya. She giggled and turned to her friend.

"Nino just asked me to the dance! Isn't that great?!" Alya exclaimed, shaking her friend excitedly. Marinette nodded her head in agreement. They were a cute couple.

"So," Alya said after she calmed down. "Has anybody asked you yet?"

"Not yet," Marinette sighed. She didn't mind though. She wasn't much of the party type. She'd rather be alone in her room designing and blasting her Jagged Stone music. But it would be nice to go to a school dance.

"Well don't get your hopes up too high, but there's a model at ten o'clock and he looks like he's headed this way!" Alya whispered. Marinette turned her head to see Adrien walking towards them with a big grin on his face.

"Hey guys!" He said joining the group. "Hey, Marinette." He said, giving her a playful smirk. She rolled her eyes as playfully as his smirk and greeted him. "Hello Adrien. We were just talking about the dance coming up soon." She said. Alya's jaw dropped. Her friend, the girl who was usually a stuttering, blushing mess around the famous model just formulated a complete sentence with no change in skin color.

Adrien's face dropped almost as low as Alya's jaw. He had forgotten all about the dance. "Oh yeah, the dance." He chuckled nervously. "I totally remembered that." He gave a cheesy grin the the group, but none of them took the bait.

"Right, you "remembered". Dude you need to find somebody soon. People have already started asking." Nino said, taking a quick glance at Alya, who was still in shock about her best friend.

"ADRIKINS!" A high pitched screechy voice called from a distance. Adrien's face paled as he stood as still as possible, not wanting to turn around. He hoped that maybe if he didn't move she would go away. But he was almost knocked over when the blonde rich girl tackled him in a hug. Adrien tried to pull away from the death grip he was being put into, but it didn't work. Chloe forced her face close to his, trying to plant a kiss on his cheek. He dodged and managed to unhook Chloe's arms from his neck.

"Uh-hu, hey Chloe." Adrien said, darting his eyes to find the quickest excuse to get away from her.

"Oh, Adrikins did you hear about the dance that's happening soon?" She cooed, batting her eyelashes.

"Um yeah I did." Adrien replied, knowing exactly where Chloe was going with this conversation. He glanced at his friends giving them a pleading look and mouthing 'Help me!'

The group giggled, and just before Marinette was about to say something, she heard her name being called. She looked around for where the voice was coming from and noticed Nathanael walking up the steps towards her. She waved at him and walked down a few steps to meet him.

"Hey Nathanael, what's up?" She asked greeting her artistic friend.

"I-uh- just wanted to ask you- um- well-... can I have your phone?" He blurted out. Marinette gave a confused look to the red haired boy.

"Why do you want my phone?" She asked, confused to why Nathanael would be anywhere near interested in her phone.

"Number. Your phone number." He stammered, turning bright red.

"Uh... Sure." Marinette hesitated, but didn't want to disappoint her classmate. His crystal eyes lit up as Marinette told him her number, waved goodbye,  and rejoined her friends at the top of the stairs. Chloe was gone, and Marinette could see that Adrien was slightly glaring at Nathanael.

"What?" Marinette asked, following his gaze. "Is the kitty jealous?" She smirked, saying it only loud enough for Adrien to hear. Adrien continued to stare down the artist and ignored Marinette's question. The bell rang, leaving no time for an explanation at the moment. The friends walked together to their classroom and plopped down in their seats.

"Marinette you do realize that earlier you said an entire sentence in front of Adrien, right?" Alya whispered behind her bag.

"Yeah, I know." Marinette shrugged it off like it was no big deal. Alya just sat in silence as the lesson began.

The lunch bell rang, and the student body steamed out of their classrooms into the courtyard. The four musketeers all sat down at a lunch table, talking about whatever came to mind. Adrien still seemed off after what happened earlier that morning with Nathanael.

"Hey, you okay?" Marinette said softly, grabbing his arm and staring him in the eyes. Adrien looked back at her and nodded, giving a small smile. Marinette returned the smile but she knew something was wrong. She would talk to him later about it. The four friends continued to talk until the bell signaled again, telling the students it was time to head back to class.

"And the next presentation group will be Nathanael and Marinette." Marinette quietly sighed. She was hoping to paired with Adrien. Or Alya. She would even be fine if she was paired up with Nino. Just not Nathanael. Ever since she learned he had a crush on her, things between them have been awkward. She glanced back at Nathanael, who had the biggest grin on his face. She turned back to see Adrien, slightly scowling at Nathanael. After all the partners were assigned and the students we're given an independent assignment for the day, Adrien went up to the teacher to talk with her in private. She nodded, and then Adrien sat back down, a smirk playing across his face. Marinette leaned forward in her seat.

"What were you doing?" She whispered.

"You'll see, M'lady." Adrien replied. The smirk still remained on his face.

"Does this have something to do with Nathanael?" She asked. Adrien was silent for a moment.

"Maybe..." He quietly responded.

"Marinette this is an independent assignment. Please return to your work." The teacher said.

"Sorry," Marinette mumbled.

"And by the way, I'm switching your partner for the group. Adrien will be your new partner." She added, before returning to her papers.

Chloe turned and gave Marinette a death glare while Marinette sat on shock about what just happened.
