4: There Once Was A Boy Named Daniel
Your pov
"Dan!" Phil squealed, "I was about to come looking for you."
Dan didn't respond but looked from the two drinks he undoubtedly got on the way back, to the beer already in Phil's hand, to me, back to Phil. He seemed to be a mixture of confused and ill at ease with my presence.
"Oh! Right! This is Y/N! She's a great fan. She tweets a lot. I recognised her from Twitter! Don't you recognise her from Twitter, Dan?" Phil rambled.
Dan attempted to smile politely but he was visibly a little disgruntled. He'd probably been hoping for a night out without continuously being bothered by fans and here was Phil, who had apparently invited some Twitter stalker to hang out. The last thing I wanted was for Dan to feel uncomfortable. I had to play this cool. Don't go for a hug, be chill, Y/N. It would probably also be smart to remove myself from the situation soon. Did I want to be that person overstaying their welcome? Hell no.
"Hey. I'm Y/N." I simply gave him a quick wave hello.
Time to pull out. I'd been lucky enough running into them at random. Who would ever have thought I'd be buying Phil a drink. Better not push it. If anything, they'd remember me as the nice, unobtrusive girl who had tried her best to respect their boundaries.
"I don't mean to intrude on your evening," I smiled apologetically at Dan. "I'll leave you two to it then, show's about to start. It was nice meeting you both!"
I turned around and found myself a nice little party spot near the railing with a perfect view of the stage, yet comfortably close to the bar.
Dan's pov
"Thank god that's over", I sighed.
"What do you mean? She was perfectly nice! Look! She even bought me this drink, and she wasn't creepy or anything."
Ugh, Phil. Always with the optimism. He could be so naive sometimes.
"Think, Phil. You recognised her from Twitter, did you? How much does she tweet, Phil? How much? I'll tell you how much. A lot, that's what. I'm telling you, on the outside she may be pretending to be all casual about it but her inside fangirl is screaming and trying to work her way into our lives."
"Don't be ridiculous! She didn't even come up to me! I kind of... hugged her while she wasn't even coming up to me, Dan! That was awkward... But, she wasn't all jumpy about it. It was nice, actually, for a change!"
"She's definitely a psychopath."
I frowned at Phil. What was with him? We usually agreed that there was a time and place for fan interactions. Like, meeting people on the street coincidentally: fine, but keep it short. This was entirely different. This was an event at a venue and if we ran into fans here, it could get messy. We were going to be here for the entire evening, which made it far easier for people to try and stick around or find us again. Such things just got annoying and it felt invasive. There was a reason we picked a small venue, not in London. I'd really hoped to not be recognised tonight and enjoy this gig in peace and Oh. My. God. Phil was actually staring at her.
"Phil! Are you checking her out ??"
"What? No! I just... Don't you think it's sad? She was really lovely and I'm sure she would have liked to talk to you too and I think she went away because she was trying to be polite? I mean, she's here all by herself, maybe we could keep her company? And she likes this band a lot too! She even mentioned that song you were on about earlier? You might like her too!"
I tapped Phil on the forehead.
"Are you joking ? For all you know she found out I like this band and she's going to all of their gigs to try and stalk me!"
"She didn't even mention you though!"
"And you don't find that a little bit suspicious?"
"Not everything is about you, Dan."
"Oh my god, that's not what I meant. Jesus Christ.. ugh.. okay, Phil, listen. Phil?"
Phil wasn't listening to me in the slightest. He turned around and walked up to Y/N. This wasn't like him. He usually had a lot more common sense than this. They seemed to quickly pick up animated conversation and it wasn't looking like Phil was going to return any time soon. I grunted. I could hardly leave Phil alone. I had no idea what was up with him, but at this rate I was concerned he'd be inviting her back to our apartment at the end of the evening if I didn't keep an eye out. I should probably join them to be on the safe side.
