14: Danthony

Dan's POV

I stared into Y/N's eyes. My mind was fighting with my gut. Her words felt really sincere but my brain just kept whispering suspicions to me. What if she is a psychopath. They know just the thing to say. Was I being tricked? Lulled into a false sense of security? The sight of her so patiently smiling was distracting. My thoughts wandered from trying to decide if I should agree to her suggestion to the way her long black lashes framed her eyes and the curve of her mouth. Her bottom lip swelling a little as it was slightly pushed out by her smile. I refocused. She did have a point. I was making the night really shit for Phil, in any case, and that wasn't what I wanted. I could still distrust her while faking not wanting to be a total asshole about it...

I reached out my hand to her. "Deal."

Her grin widened and she shook my hand. Firmly. Confidently.

"OH MY GOD!" Phil cried out, "I thought you were going to slap her!"

Y/N and I both burst out laughing. Guess this was as good of a way to break the ice as any.

Y/F's POV

I'd been trying to reach Y/N for hours. Where the hell was she at on a Saturday night? It was't like her to ignore my texts for this long. It wasn't like she was busy. If she had plans, I'd have known about them. I was legit worried. I took my phone and dialed Dave.

"Dave, Y/F!" I started rattling.

"Oh hey Y/F, what..."

I didn't let him finish.

"Dave I've been trying to reach Y/N all afternoon and all night and she's not responding, it's way out of character, I'm worried! What do I do!"

Dave started laughing at the other end of the line.

"Relax, Y/F, she's just here!"

"She's... there?"

"Yeah."

"Why is she there by herself? Why wouldn't she reply to me?"

"Didn't say she's by herself. She's here with some friends."

"Oh..."

"Anything else? I gotta get back to the bar."

"No, thanks. Good to know she's alive!"

I hung up the phone and chewed my lip. I was glad Y/N was okay, but why the hell would she go out and not invite me or even tell me about it? I was her best friend! Was she that upset with me over this Phil thing?

Your POV

"I'm just blessed with my naturally super flat hair", Phil admitted.

The night had progressed beautifully. Whether Dan was pretending or not, he'd switched his attitude around completely. We'd all been sharing awkward experiences, joking and laughing, and now we were talking the pains of having to actually pay attention to our appearance whenever we wanted to leave the house or appear on camera.

"Ugh yeah, you better know how lucky you are", Dan said. "I mean, you know how much time and effort went into straightening my hair all the time. Just for that I'm actually glad I finally embraced my curly self."

"It looks good on you," I complimented him. "Kinda makes you look like Anthony Padilla again."

Dan smacked his drink back onto the table and cocked his had while he glared at me. Phil and I couldn't contain ourselves and high-fived each other, roaring with laughter.

"Oh HA HA, SURE. 'Oh Dan, you look so much like Anthony! You're basically the same person! ' HONESTLY." He pretended to be upset, but I could see a little twinkle in his eye.

"For real though, that would actually make a great collab!" I said. "Just imagine, you two crying over being compared, then proving you're "INDIVIDUALS!" by trying to actually impersonate each other? The contrast between Antony being all fit, confident and positive, and you a socially awkward nerd obsessed with the death of humanity who basically doesn't know what a push-up is? Comedy gold."

Phil looked at me with some surprise. "Hey, that's actually not a bad idea!"

Dan seemed to be mulling over the idea. "I mean.. I could ask him. Does sound potentially interesting..."

"Yeah, we'll be in LA for VidCon anyway." said Phil.

"Wait, you're actually considering this?" I giggled.

"I mean why not. It's actually not a bad idea", Dan conceded.

Y/F's POV

I walked into Dave's.

"Hey! Where's Y/N? I think she just forgot to like, let me know we were going out or forgot her phone or something. Thank god I called you or I would never have known."

Of course I was fooling myself. If she'd really wanted me here, she would have asked Dave to call. I knew bloody well I was here to ask her why the hell she was ignoring me and make things right THIS INSTANT.

"She's in the back, but, hey Y/F!" Dave called me back as I was already headed to the other end of the building.

"What?" I asked impatiently.

"She asked I made sure she and her friends wouldn't be disturbed so I'm not sure if you should.. go over?"

"MY GOD DAVE. I'M HER BEST FRIEND!"

"I know, I know. You know what, you have a drink on me here at the bar and after I switch these kegs downstairs, I'll just casually go see if I can get them anything, let her know you're here, so there's definitely no drama, okay?"

"But..."

"This is my bar and I don't want potential drama." His expression made it abundantly clear there was no room for discussion.

"Ugh. Fine." I gritted my teeth.

As Dave went down into the basement, I saw some guy at the corner of the bar flip him off behind his back. He started moving to the back of the establishment after angrily spitting on the counter.
