Chapter One

"Dad was always a crap liar. It's a wonder how he got away with half of the things that he did before he met Mom."

Let's just face it, people are jerks.

Every single person on this god forsaken planet has at some point been a jerk to someone. Even if they're a genuinely nice person, I guarantee that they've said or done something that they regret at some point in their life.

I swear that I'm not usually this cynical, but you try being in the same small space as Audrey for an extended period of time.

"If Fairy Godmother made me stay in the same room as that spoiled witch any longer, I swear on Rajah that I would have at the least had an aneurism." I groaned as I plopped down on my bed, having just returned from helping plan the decorations for the post-coronation dance.

Fairy Godmother volunteered me to help the student council plan and decorate the dance, with the excuse that I 'needed to be more involved, because it would help prepare me for my duties as Ben's royal advisor.

"At least? What would you do at most?" Chuckled my roommate and best friend, Gen daughter of Genie.

"Well, let's just say that Auradon Prep would be missing it's resident spoiled rich bi–." I started, but was cut off by Gen throwing a pillow at my face.

"Watch it, you know how FGM is about profanity!" She scolded me and I rolled my eyes.

"She's not here to hear me curse, Gen." I scoffed with a shake of my head. "Besides it's not like it's not true."

"Agreed, but you are barely two detentions away from being suspended and you know how your mom would feel about that, Jaz."

"You see, G, this is exactly why I don't sign up for extracurricular activities." I told the blue girl. "They're restricting and ridiculous."

"What about dance team?" The genie in training asked with a knowing smile.

"Dance team isn't run by FGM, it's coached by Esme's mom. She's cool and curses just as much as I do." I pointed out, causing my best friend to nod in agreement. She opened her mouth to reply, but was cut off by a knock on the door of our dorm.

"It's open!" Gen yelled as we both turned around to look at the opening door.

"Hi, ladies." Jane greeted us meekly with a polite smile, before addressing me. "Jaz, Ben wanted to speak with you. He said it was important."

"Ooh, is Jazzy in trouble?" Gen joked with a laugh.

"I don't think so." Jane replied, apparently not understanding the joke. "He said that he needed your input on something."

"Ah, royal advisor stuff?" I asked with a nod.

"Royal advisor stuff." She confirmed, politely returning my nod.

"I'll be right up." I told the girl with a smile. "Thanks for letting me know, Jane."

"No problem." She shrugged before jumping suddenly. "Oh! I almost forgot to tell you!"

"Tell me what, J?" I chuckled with a raised brow.

"You're brother is here to visit!" The shy girl told me with a faint blush on her cheeks. "I passed him in the hall a few minutes ago."

It was no secret to me that a majority of the female population at Auradon Prep had a crush on my older brother. Dad always joked that he was a ladykiller 'just like his old man was at his age'. To which Mom would laugh and add that they were both horribly pathetic flirts too.

"Thanks, Jane." I told the younger girl with a chuckle. "I'll say hi to Alex after my meeting with Ben."

"Okay! Bye, Jaz. Bye, Gen." She said before leaving the room.

"Were we ever that shy?" Gen asked after we shared an amused look.

"Nope, never." I chuckled and shook my head, my dark curls bouncing across my shoulders and back. "I better go and see what our favorite princey–poo wants."

"You do that, JJ! Rajah and I will be chilling here." She said as my tiger cub crawled onto my bed and curled up in a sleepy ball.

"Hey, Benji!" I greeted the prince as I entered his office. "Jane said you needed my help with something."

"Yeah! Have a seat, Jaz!" The future king told me, motioning to one of the chairs. I walked over to the padded velvet chair and sat down, crossing my right leg over the left one. "I know what I want my first proclamation as king to be."

"Ben, that's awesome!" I congratulated my friend with a warm smile.

"Thanks, Jaz." He told me with a nervous smile, before continuing. "Now, I want your honest opinion on it. Okay?"

"Yeah, of course." I assured him with a nod.

"Now, I know that this is going to be really controversial amongst the people of Auradon, but I believe that it will be beneficial on both sides." Ben started to explain, piquing my curiosity.

"I want to bring five children from the Isle of the Lost over here, to give them an opportunity to change for the good." The young prince told me with a hopeful smile. "So, what do you think?"

"As your royal advisor or as your friend?" I asked him with a raised eyebrow.

"Both." Ben told me with that hope still glimmering in his eyes.

"As your royal advisor, I can see how that could be tricky. I can think of a few people who would be cynical about the idea." I started, thinking hard over the possible backlash.

Ben's smile dropped a little at my words, so I let a smile form on my face and continued. "I'd say that it would take them a few months at most to get over it."

"And as my friend?"

"I think it's a great idea, Ben." I told the boy who'd become one of my oldest friends. "You could do some real good with this, make an actual difference."

"This could be the beginning of legitimate peace in the kingdom, Ben! Peace that was made without having to banish anyone to a remote island!" I encouraged him with an excited grin. "I support you one hundred percent, B."

"Thank you, Jazzy. You have no idea how much it means to me that you have my back." The future king let out a relieved sigh, giving me a grateful smile.

"I'll always have your back, Benji." I admitted with a shrug, before joking. "You're like the little brother that I never wanted."

"Hey, now! You're only older than me by a month!" He argued with a laugh, shaking his head at me.

"Whatever you say, B." I chuckled with a grin, before asking in genuine curiosity. "Hey, who's kids are you inviting to Auradon Prep?"

"It's a surprise." Ben told me with a shrug, making me roll my eyes and scoff.

"What?!"

"It's a surprise, Jazzy! So, no more asking about it!" My friend told me with a laugh, but I could see a hint of nervousness in his eyes. "You'll find out, when they get here!"

"If your parents agree to it." I added with a chuckle, crossing my arms over my chest.

"Stop raining on my parade, Jaz!" He laughed, jokingly rolling his eyes. "Now, go! Don't you have dance practice in twenty minutes?"

"Oh, crap!" I exclaimed with wide eyes, before bursting out of my seat.

"Bye, Ben! Good luck with your parents! You've got this bro!" I quickly told him, as I made my way out of the door.

"Bye, Jaz!" I heard Ben chuckle as I dashed through the hallway.

After dance practice, I was walking through the main foyer of the school on my way to Gen and I's dorm. As I approached the stairs, I spotted a familiar figure standing on my left.

"Alex!" I exclaimed happily, grabbing my older brother's attention as I approached him.

"Hey, Bubba!" Alex greeted with a laugh, as I attacked him in a hug. "I've missed you, kid!"

"I missed you too, Al, but what are you doing here? Shouldn't you be at Uni?" I asked curiously as I broke the hug.

"I'm on break for a month and I've been asked to be the assistant coach for the tourney team." He explained with a wide smile. "Besides, I finished my dissertation and turned it in last week. So, I'm completely done with college, all I have to do know is walk across that stage at graduation."

"Alex, that's fantastic! Congrats, big bro!" I told the older boy with a proud grin. "Have you told Mom and Dad yet?"

"Not yet, I wanted my kid sister to be the first to know." My brother said with a chuckle, as he ruffled my hair. "I wanted to surprise you and I didn't want the parental units to blab about it, before I even got here."

"Yeah, Dad always was a crap liar." I agreed with a laugh. "It's a wonder how he got away with half of the things that he did before he met Mom."

"Sheer luck, little sister, sheer luck."

"So, how's it going with the only Charming sibling that has a decent personality?" I asked my brother with a grin.

I absolutely adored Alex's girlfriend, Cindy. She's such a sweetheart and is kinda like the older sister that I never had.

"Cindy is great." My older brother chuckled, shaking his head. "She wants to have another girls day with you and Mom soon."

"That would be so awesome! The three of us had so much fun last time!" I agreed excitedly.

"I swear my own family likes my girlfriend better than they like me!" Alex scoffed, throwing his arms up in a 'what the hell' manner.

"Well, we've had you. So, we'll gladly swap you out for her." I joked with a smug smirk and a nonchalant shrug.

"Oh, you stone cold bitch."

"For real, though!"

"Esmera, there is no way that there's a secret tunnel under the school!" I chuckled at one of my best friends as our group ate lunch in the cafeteria. "You're insane!"

"Jazzy, we established that Es was insanely years ago." Pete joked from his spot beside me, making the rest of us laugh.

"Yeah, too much head trauma." Gen teased the clumsy Latina with a wide grin.

"I officially hate you guys." The daughter of Esmeralda stated bluntly, rolling her green eyes at us. "I'm dropping your asses and getting some new friends.

"Nah, Mera, you'd miss us too much." Navi told her with a grin. She rolled her eyes at the son of Queen Tiana and King Naveen.

"Yeah, she wouldn't be able to handle being without us to brighten up her dull little day." Seba joked with his signature smirk.

"Oh, shove it, Mommy's Boy!" She scoffed, shooting a teasing grin to the son of Snow White.

"You first, Short Stack!"

"Alright, that's enough, children." I chuckled, interrupting their bickering with a mock motherly tone.

"He/She started it!" They jokingly replied in unison, pointing to each other.

"Well, you're mother is finishing it." Pete told them in a feigned stern voice, sending me a teasing wink. I rolled my eyes at my boyfriend, before saying.

"Seriously though, guys, I don't want to be kicked out of the cafeteria again by FGM for 'disrupting the peace'."

"What is with her and using that crap excuse to kick us out of here every other day? Honestly, this is a cafeteria, not a monastery." Gen scoffed and shook her head, the rest of us nodding in agreement.

"Hey, did any of you finish the History of Auradon homework last night?" Seba asked, before taking a sip from the mini water bottle in his hand.

A chorus of 'yeahs' and 'yes's sounded amongst our group, plus an amused comment from Gen. "No, you stale potato chip, I'm in AP History of the Enchanted Forest."

The son of Snow White raised an amused eyebrow and said. "Stale potato chip? Really, Gen?"

"What? It makes sense because you're pale, salty, and dead inside." She explained to us with a 'duh' look.

"Well, she's not wrong." Seba admitted with a shrug.

"Agreed, but back to the previous topic." Pete chuckled, before addressing Sebastian. "You wanna barrow my notes, dude?"

"Peter Pan Jr., you are a lifesaver!" The curly haired brunette boy told my boyfriend with a grin.

"And you, Sebastian White, are a slacker." The blue eyed boy chuckled, rolling his eyes at his best friend.

"It's because of my vitamin D deficiency." Seba joked. "It's genetic."

"Hey, Seba?" I asked the boy who sat next to Esmera and across from Navi.

"Yeah, Jazzy?"

"You're an idiot."

"But I'm a lovable idiot."
