Chapter 28
Ro is now depressed.
I don't know what happened between those two, but after about a half an hour of crying, we told him, and he's just been laying in the sand for the past two hours, staring at the sky and shouting every couple minutes.
"What are we going to do?" I ask TLo.
"I dunno, there's always killing him. That'll shut him up." he says, turning into another form. This time, it looked like a lion with a goat head. I punch him in the head, and he groans.
"Is this what it looked like?" he asks.
"No. It has a body of a lion, the head of a goat, and the tail is a snake. Also, it has humongous horns on it's head." I say, my focus drifting over to Ali, who was sitting blankly on the back of Yin and Yang. Yang looked extra tired, like it was stressed.
He turns into the exact form that I had just cut to pieces, and I was almost taken aback. "Is this-"
"Yeah, that's what it looked like." I say, looking into his pale blue eyes. "The only difference is the eye color. But I guess that doesn't matter." I say.
For the first time in two hours, Ro looks up at us. "Huh. That's a chimera. They mainly work for the government. Their strength level is seven out of ten, and they're mainly found on Erant, protecting the king. They can also be used for fighting off other demons and enemies. They're kind of like soldiers." he explains.
"How do you know?" I ask.
"Where there is knowledge, I am there!" he yells, before laying back down on the sand and yelling.
"Those friggin-"
"Hello there." a familiar voice says.
"Who-" I start, but then I remember, "Char." I say, spitting out the name as if it were rotten milk.
"Oh, it seems you've remembered. Wonderful! I was afraid your stupid side would've left the memory of me out." she says, in a mocking tone.
"What do you want?" I ask, gripping to the handle of my sword.
"Oh, I seem to notice your- vines, have been drawn away." she says, pointing at my legs and arms. "Well, I see you're trying to be more human." she says, running through her short brown hair with her fingers.
"You didn't answer my question." I say.
"Oh, yes. How rude of me. Let's see... Oh! I remember," she says, folding her arms. "Jemma, are you prepared for another game?" she says, smiling.
My eyes widen, and I choke back tears, "What do you mean by that?" I ask.
"Hm, you mustn't remember. Let's see, I'll show you a tape." she says, smiling evilly. "You were useless, Jemma. Your best friends were being slaughtered, and there wasn't a single thing you could do to stop it. Why, you just sat there and slept. Remember, Jemma? That game." she says, and Ali, with an angered expression, steps down from Yin and Yang's back.
"Mind if I ask you a question?" she asks.
"Sure, but make it quick." she answers.
"Why, after this traumatic event you've made her suffer through, did she lose her sense of emotion?" she asks, and Char seems to be taken aback, but her expression changed quickly into amusement.
"We had taken them away from her. After seeing how well she did after we took Elle and Laye away, we had to do something. That sort of power has to be kept in radios, or everything will go down the drain." she answered. "After we did so, her Unknown side filled her. It pumped through her veins, into her heart, through her lungs. It was magnificent! Until just now, when you rudely interrupted our experiment. Her heart was so close to shattering, the Unknown just abandoned ship." she says, looking disappointed.
"I refuse." I say, and everyone looked at me, even Ro.
"How so?" she says, "You know fairly well we can and would kill you at any moment."
"Sure." I say, "But I know that you set us up, somehow. So therefore, I decline you motives to kill my new friends, if you please."
"Oh, sweetheart. You can't decline. You're already in it." Char says.
"I could kill you right here and now if I wanted to." I say, giving a blank smile.
"S-so could I!" Ali says, grasping her umbrella.
"You want to fight me, Jemma? You could try." she says, fixing her posture.
I hold out a hand, expecting bladed vines to shoot everywhere, but nothing happens. Char laughs, "You can't do anything. You're just as helpless as before." she says.
"Your mockery doesn't affect me. It's not as though I've lost emotion again, it's one hundred percent pure hatred of you. So, you think I'm unarmed? Useless? Nobody's useless." I say, unsheathing my sword.
She frowns, and unsheathes her own sword. "Well, looks like I'm ruining a brand new shirt." she says.
"Are you sure you don't want me to take care of this?" Ali asks.
"Yeah. If anything goes wrong, you can though." I say, gripping the handle.
She nods, and I smile.
I'm a normal person.
