Chapter 27

"Jemma!" A faint voice yells. It wasn't very loud, like it was far away.
It gets louder.

"Jemma!" The voice screams. It was so loud now, that it seemed to pierce through my heart.
I open my eyes. I look over at Elle, who seemed to be sleeping in a red liquid. Laye was pinned down by the claws of a demon, and seemed to be the one who screamed. The demon thrashes at her with a large paw.

My eyes widen as I finally realize what was happening. I squint and look at the demon who held me down. It looks into my eyes, and falls over, dead.
I use a blade that I didn't even know where it came from to kill the next two. I ripped blindly through their flesh, blinded by tears. They all disappear, and I run to Laye first, who was closest.
"Laye?! Laye! Wake up!" I scream.

I look over at Elle, who faintly smiled, before disappearing. The tears stopped falling from my face, and I stare blankly at the light blue key necklace that was left behind.

I pry open my eyes, and slowly look around. Everything was blurry, but I saw a girl, with a white petticoat dress, and she was thrashing at the figure with a ruffled parasol.
My vision refocuses, and Ali stands there, blindly hitting the demon. Her eyes widen when it looks at it, and it draws back his face in pain. It's- faces. A chimera. I've only heard fairy tales about them: part lion, snake, and goat.
Her eyes had turned a dark shade of red, with the t shape seeming to be on fire. "Die!" she screams, thrashing at the snake's neck.
"A-Ali?" I ask, suddenly aware of my voice.
"You- you're such a jerk." she says, looking at me with a shaking expression.
"I'm so sorry." I say, my eyebrows shaking.
Her mouth slightly curves into a smile, and the chimera regains strength. Ali's focus was still on me. She starts into a fit of coughing, and blood spits onto the ground.
"Ali watch out!" I scream, and she turns into Luna. She shoots fire out of her hand, and the goat charges at her. She changes, her golden platinum hair sticking up, and waving like flames. Her grey t-shirt had the sleeves cut off, so you could see her black bralette from under her arms. Her blue jean shorts were cut mid-thigh, and she wore black and white converse sneakers. I lift my arm and cringe. Blood gushed from a gash in my shoulder.
Luna charges at it, and grabs ahold of the snake's head, and tugs. She slices it off with a whack of her burning hand. It bucks her into a tree, and I, with the rest of my power, sprout a ironwood tree, and form it into a knife. With my healthy arm, I scootch over to the knife. I grip it in my hand, and close one eye. Somehow, I find where the heart of the beast is located. I flick my wrist, and Luna somersaults under it, to a few feet away. It charges at her. My knife fits itself into an oak tree's bark, missing just the tip of the chimera's tail by a centimeter.
The goat's horn stabs into Luna's stomach, and blood starts to pour out as the chimera pulls away, shaking the blood off his horns. She gasps for breath, before falling on the ground. The chimera, if you even need to call it that anymore, since it's only a half goat half lion, looks at me, it's proud expression mocking me. I feel my green eyes turn red, and I scrape at the lion's eye with my fingernails. It starts to bleed, and I kick the goat's head, hearing multiple bones in it cracking. It starts to run away, but I run after it, slicing it in half with a blade I had been holding in its sheath across my back. I slash at it over and over, until it was just a pile of fur and blood.
I turn around, and Ali stands there, staring blankly into my eyes.
A single tear slides down my cheek, and she gives me a sad smile.
"It's only me now, right?" she asks.
I nod my head, and fall to my knees, bawling. She, with wobbly knees, wraps her arms around me. And then and there I realized that I wasn't just a emotionless freak.
