Chapter 26

At first, when I thought island, I thought this kid ment as though there was a lot of water around this place when he said islands. But no, the islands are just floating in the sky. This trip started only four hours ago, and I already have a million questions. Like: where do they get their light from? There was no sun. Or, how can islands just float in plain oxygen like that? I figured the latter would be a good one to start with.
"How can huge islands just float in oxygen like this?" I ask.
He smiles, "Oh, sweetie. This isn't oxygen. That only exists in our home world. Why do you think we're called 'The Chosen Three'? It's because we were born with the gift of our lungs being able to adapt to other air types. Like carbon dioxide, for say. That also leads to one of my favorite stories. When I was younger, my real parents and I lived in an old house. It was around one hundred years old. They were poor, so we never could afford a carbon monoxide alarm. By the way, if you weren't aware, carbon monoxide is deadly. It was spread through my house, I forget how. Well anyway, both my parents died from it, and I didn't. It was kind of funny, watching the rumors and myths fly around town about me. Well, until I was thrown into a boys' home. But that's a different story." he says, inhaling.
I let out a small, fake laugh, "How can you be six? You seem incredibly intelligent to be a six-year old." I say.
"I dunno." he says, shrugging.
I look over at Ro, who is pretty much choking Dennis with how tight he was holding onto the wyvern's neck. I was so busy thinking, I forgot about his fear of heights.
"Hey kid, how much longer with it take to get to the first island? Ro is going to kill poor Dennis." Luna asks.
"It should be about ten minutes." he says.
"If it was ten minutes away, wouldn't I be able to see it?" I ask.
He exhales, "No, you wouldn't. Like I explained earlier, It's a weird feeling. We're actually about five hundred years away, but the wyverns are flying at supersonic speeds, even though it feels like we aren't going that fast." he says.
"This makes no sense." I say.
"Uh, guys, no need to interrupt. Ali's trying to get through!" she yells, right before she falls onto the wyvern's neck.
"Luna? Luna!" I yell. She doesn't get up. To make matters worse, she started slipping off. "Hold on, Luna! We can't afford for you to fall into the abyss of- nothingness? Just don't fall!" I yell, but there was no connection between the two of us.
There was only one thing I could think of. I tie a knot into Venus's horn, and jump off.
"What are you doing, Jemma?" was all I heard.
I hold a hand out, trying to catch up. I start to get dizzy from the air pressure, and my skin seemed to be tearing off my legs.
"Sorry," I whisper, grabbing hold of her hair. "Stop." I order the vines. I grab hold of her forearm, and started climbing up to Venus, which was a little difficult. As soon as we make it up to her, I set Luna (or Ali), into the fold of Yin's wing, and start to catch my breath.
"Well, that was an experience. You mind tying her to Yin or something? We need to continue forth." TLo says.
"Okay." I say, cutting a strand of vine off. Which surprisingly hurt a lot. It felt kind of like getting your fingernails ripped off. I wince, trying not to cry out.
"What's wrong?" Ro asks.
"Um, remind me to never cut one of the plants I sprout. It feels like cutting off a limb." I say, cringing as the pain fades.
"Shouldn't that mean you should be more careful during battles?" Ro suggests.
"That's like saying science is dangerous, don't do it." I say, raising an eyebrow.
"Okay, whatever. Die for all I care." he says sarcastically.
For some reason, that sentence really got deep into my head. "Um, I'm sorry." I say.
"For what? I know we're just joking around. Nothing you said made me feel angry. But sure, from you, Queen of No Feelings, I'll take the sentiment." he says, chuckling.
I grunt, and Venus flies a bit faster. I look forward, and I could almost see a faint bit of island. TLo looks forward, and smiles. "Everyone, you better prepare for landing in about three, two..." he starts, but was cut off by his wyvern slowing down to a normal speed to land.
It happens to me next, and it was such a strange feeling to go to normal speed, I almost wanted to throw up. I look over at Ro and Luna/Ali to see how they were doing. Ro seemed just like me, road sick, and Luna/Ali was still tied to Yin.
"Okay, humans. We'll only be able to camp here for a bit, since it's the most dangerous of the four. Ro, untie the girl, Jemma, don't touch anything." he says.
"What?! I'm not seven! It's not like some kind of demon will kill me or something." I say, looking around. "The most dangerous thing I'll probably see here is my reflection in a pond." I say, wondering into a forest. The scenery was eery, with dark wood trees, and barely any light. I could see a mountain off in the distance, so I make that my target. I step on a snake, which tried to bite me in revenge, but I stab it before it could.
I hear a growl sound, but before I could think, a creature pinned me up against a tree with its claws.
