Chapter 25
The tunnel was kind of like a slide, accept when you land, soft sand wasn't there. I sprout and break a tree branch, and slide it across the rough cave walls. Sparks fly after a few scrapes, and soon enough I had a torch. I let the firelight guide me down the cave, but suddenly I trip over something. The vines don't let me fall, but it's still scary. I wave the torch around the- whatever this place was, until I met with a pair of large nostrils. Leading up from them was a pair of dark red eyes, and it was barbed down the middle.
It's heaving breathing moved the fire around, and I watch as it's eyes followed the light. It grunts, followed by a snarl. And image of TLo appears in my mind, as I remember him say, "Well, I wouldn't say domesticated." I sigh, these things are completely wild.
I dodge an attack, and the fire goes out. It bites down blindly, and swings it's tail around. I merge an overgrown thistle from the ground, and pin it's legs down. It cries out in pain, and I quickly try to start another fire. I dodge another bite, and I start to run away. The flames dance as the wyvern tries to catch up, but I crawl through a small crack in the back of the tunnel, too small for it to fit through.
Don't want that one, I tell myself. I continue walking down the path, being careful not to trip over anything this time. As I walk, a sound starts to emerge from the cave walls. It was a sound I only heard from my gut before lunchtime, but it wasn't me.
"What's there?" I whisper to myself, and I instantly covered my mouth. I stop, and something blows in my face. My face drains color, as I meet eye-to-eye with the next wyvern. It's eyes were a piercing emerald green, and each scale was black, fading into a dark green. It snorts in my face again, before bowing its head. Its horns were curvy, with green jewels encrusted in them. The tip of its horns were pointed like a blade, and I had to dodge them when it bowed.
"Hello." I say, slightly raising my hand. With hesitance, it places the end of its nose against it. It was already tamed.
"Hi." someone says. I quickly turn around, to find the lady from before. Jaime?
"What are you doing here?" I ask.
"I should be asking you the same question. Well, you asked first. I come here sometimes. My sister Layla makes teleportation potions, so it's easy to come here. I see you found-" her expression changes when she sees the wyvern. Her eyes now dance with sadness. "Venus."
"What's wrong about her?" I ask.
"Well, you know. My daughter loved that wyvern. She tamed it and everything. Heck, it's the most powerful one. But you can't claim a wyvern until you're ten. She was eight when she died." she explains. "But since she died two weeks ago, Venus never came out of her hiding spot."
I pet the wyvern sitting next to me. "Um, would it be okay if I took her with me? We're going somewhere far away, and I need a wyvern to get there." I explain.
She stops to think for a second before replying, "I guess you can. She really needs a break out of the mountains, anyway. Plus, she seems to really like you." Jaime says.
"Thanks. I'll take good care of her." I say, climbing on her back.
"The way you fly is by telling her where you want to go. Wyverns know this place inside and out, so she can get you where you want to go." she says, whistling. A wyvern runs into the room, and she jumps on. "I'll follow you out, okay? I need some fresh air." she says, petting the wyvern's rusty red scales.
"Okay, Venus, can you fly me outside?" I say, and she starts to flap her wings. In a second, we're outside, and looking for my group. I spot them on a ledge, and I tell Venus to fly in that direction. Jaime lands after me, and she and TLo make eye contact.
"You.." Jaime growls.
TLo grins, and scratches the back of his neck. "Hello, mother."
Jaime's eyes grow wide, and she backs away in fear. "You- you.."
"What's the matter, mommy? I thought you said you'd love me forever? Remember, you promised me at the adoption center!" he says.
"Not now- Not ever!" she yells, backing up more. Her feet slip, and she falls.
Ro walks to the edge, "Hey, are you okay?" he yells. It echos down the side of the mountain, but there was no answer.
"We've gotta go if we wanna make it there in three exact days." he says, hopping on his wyvern. He looks at mine, "Hm, seems you've found the little girl's wyvern. She couldn't ever handle the leader of all wyverns, anyway. She suits you much better." he says, taking off.
I didn't dare ask any questions, because he seemed in a bad mood, anyway. Ro's wyvern was names Dennis, and he has bluish black scales, with tiny horns. Luna and Ali's wyvern was a two-headed wyvern, which I found appropriate. One head was pinkish, and the other was just plain black. Both had long, pointed horns on their heads. One was Yin, and the other Yang. Also appropriate.
"Let's go to Erant!" TLo yells, taking off.
