Chapter 28

Elle
I drove back to my apartment then. By then it was five o'clock. I waited another three hours before eating supper. It was weird to eat microwave ramen and orange juice after I had gotten used to all of the healthy fresh food from Jaylemm.
I got a call from Willa at eight thirty. I was watching tv, with my feet up on the coffee table and the remote aimlessly searching through various cooking shows.
"Hello?" I say, putting the phone on speaker.
"Elle! Oh my god, have you seen Joe? We can't find her anywhere! Mom and dad says she didn't come back from school today like she normally does." She says.
"What? Where are you?" I ask.
"I'm on my way over to mom and dads. Can you help?" She asks.
"Yeah, totally. Are your kids okay?" I ask.
"Crap, Elle, I don't know. I haven't had time to call and apologize to the sitter for being so late. Do you think you could pick them up on your way over?" She asks, voice filled with panic.
"Yeah, I'll hurry there. You still bring them to Molly's?" I ask, grabbing my keys off the hook.
"Yep, oh god, please hurry." She says, hanging up.
I shove my phone in my pocket, and start up the car. I speed down to Molly's, who lived only fifteen minutes away. I knock on the door, but there wasn't an answer. I knock again to find no answer. I open the door and step inside. It's oddly quiet. I walk into the living room, and it instantly smelled of blood. I run into the kitchen, where Molly's body laid dead on the floor, a knife thrust into her skull.
In the middle of the room was prince Noah, holding a kid in each hand.
"Elle?" Kasey asked, looking at my with tears in her eyes. Noah pulls her braid, and she winces.
"What are you doing?!" I scream.
"Well fun fact, every member of a Court has their past lives erased, so that means this world has to go. It's in the terms and conditions." He says, shrugging.
"I wasn't even told any terms or conditions! I didn't even sign up for this!" I yell at him.
"Well Jemma signed up for you. So, too late." He says, and both his hands blow up in flames.
I feel myself scream as the house burns down. Tears stream down my face as the ceiling caves in. There's some other screams coming from neighboring houses, and I fall on my knees. Nothing bad has happened in Gernaya, ever. People here aren't prepared for a tragedy.
Much less the end of the world.

I open my eyes, and I'm in a field. Long flowing endless grass as far as the eye can see. I was leaning against a trunk of a tree.
Two figures notice my appearance, and walk over to me.
"Elle?" The girl asks.
"Jemma?" I ask. The boy next to her-
"You!" I scream, jumping up, and wrapping my hands around his neck.
"This is what you get, you evil piece of crap." I say, tightening my grip.
"Elle, stop!" Jemma says, ripping me away from him.
"Why? Why, Jemma, can't I personally kill the person who burned my niece and nephew to ashes right in front of my face? The person that destroyed my home world. Since when do you get to decide what I do? Who made you the decision maker, huh? Because I need to give them a stern talking to!" I yell.
"Elle, this isn't the prince. It's the Noah from my home. Prince Noah just left. He had kidnapped my Noah." She says.
"So you agreed behind our backs to be in this guys' gang type thing to earn your boyfriend back. My family is dead, Jemma!" I say, wiping away tears.
"He told me Laye was badly hurt, and you were dying. Dying, Elle. You can say whatever you want, but Prince Noah gave me an opportunity to save everyone I cared about. And I'm sorry you are suffering because your home is gone, but I didn't have much of a choice. He told me already one of us were dead, and I didn't want that number to increase. Maybe if I would have been there, Serenity wouldn't be dead. But at least the majority of us survived. I'm so, so sorry, but I believe I made the correct choice." She says, looking me in the eyes.
"Okay." I say, looking at my sneakers. I sniff a couple times before pulling it together. "But you can't blame yourself for Serenity's death. It couldn't be helped."
"What happened, anyways? Laye seemed pretty messed up about it for the ten minutes I was there." She asks.
"Well, we were all sent to the castle's prison. Serenity killed a guard named Justice, and then a little boy who I assume was a guard in training. She didn't seem effected by it at all. She was going crazy, in my opinion. She liked murdering people. Laye saw it, too. She killed Serenity." I explain.
"What?! She killed Serenity?" Jemma says, eyes wide.
"I don't blame her. You had to be there, Jemma. The murderous look on Serenity's face. It was terrifying. She was the picture of a psychopath I've only ever read about in books." I say, and she holds her temple and walks in circles.
"Oh, my god. Oh my god. Okay. I'm fine. I'm great. We should find Laye." She says, taking deep breaths. She takes out a card from her pocket, hands shaking. The picture was changing rapidly, before stopping at a pitch black place. It was labeled Layeanne.
"I got these from the prince. He said they'd change wherever we'd go. We were just about to look for you, when the card disappeared and here you are." She explains. "Look at the card and imagine you're there, I guess."
I do as she says, and everything goes blank.
