Chapter 23
Jemma
Elle just finished explaining to Malachi what happened as I guard the door. I don't pay attention to his reaction to everything, I just sit and wait for him to stop freaking out. He must hate me anyways, for dragging him into something that he doesn't even know about.
"So wait, the take of Prince Noah is actually true? Next you're going to tell me that wyverns and people can mate." He says.
"What even is a wyvern?" Laye asks.
"Yes, he is real. And I'll explain more about what he wants with us later. And Laye, a wyvern is like a noodley looking dragon. Now we really have to get Charlotte and get out before the king sends all his forces against us." I say, unsheathing the sword gifted to me from the prince. It was light blue, and a good weight. It had the points at the end that made a diamond-like shape, and it was sharp on both sides.
"Malachi, do you still have that mystic poison? You know, you splash it on the blade and it makes it poisonous?" I ask.
"I know what mystic poison is, and no, I don't have the original bottle." He says, and I sigh. Then he smiles, "but I did steal a bottle from one of the guards."
"I genuinely hate to right now. Hand it over." I say, holding out my hand, and he throws it.
I catch it, with a baffled look on my face. "You're lucky I'm good at catching."
I pour half the bottle on the blade, and it tints it neon green. I hand the rest to Elle, who pours it on hers. Then she stands up, taking the rifle from Malachi and giving him the sword.
"There, I'm better with guns, and as far as I'm concerned you're good with any weapon." She says to him, and his cheeks flush a little.
"Not any weapon, I suck with ninja stars." This makes her smile.
"Wait are you two actually dating or is Laye just making fun of you every five seconds? I'm confused." I ask.
They both go red. "W-w-w-what? No!" Elle says. "Come on, we've got to get Charlotte." She says, taking a magazine from one of the dead soldiers and loading her rifle.
"Okay, lets get moving, then." I say, hopping over a body, trying to avoid getting blood on my sneakers.
Charlotte
It's easier to clear my mind with the constant blare of gunshots surrounding me. I focus on the room outside the cell that I saw before they threw me in here.
I gasp, opening my eyes. I was outside the cell, the light blinding me. The first guard notices me, and points her sword nervously.
I snap, and everyone falls over dead. I open the door, into an office. People look up, pausing their fingers mid-type. I walk down the aisle, as people stare with wide eyes. Someone reaches for a pistol slowly, and so I tuck my fingers into a fist. I hear the crunch as all of the weapons in the room crumble into dust.
I leave through the door on the end of the aisle. As I open the door, I instantly see blood pooling on the floor. I open it all the way, and in the corner of the empty room stood Jemma, Elle, and Laye. And that one dude that's always around that starts with M. Mike, maybe?
"Charlotte!" Jemma says, running up to me. She hugs me tightly, before taking a step back. "Your pigtails are defying the laws of gravity." She says.
It was true, when I use a specific amount of my powers, my hair starts to float as a side affect. It was like I was underwater, it just wouldn't stay down at my shoulders.
"I know." I say.
"Okay Charlotte, do you think you could put down the king from here?" Jemma asks, putting her hands on my shoulders.
I shake my head no, and she sighs in disappointment.
"Okay, well do you know where the king is?" She asks.
"Yeah, he's in his room, which is in the east wing. That's why I was kept in the west wing, so I would be kept as far away from him as possible." I explain.
"Is there any chance we could just leave without killing the king?" Laye asks. "I don't wan to fight anymore. I'm tired."
"I guess we could. But we'd have to leave this dimension." Charlotte says. Suddenly she looks up in thought. I hear footsteps, paired with the sudden movement of a desk in the corner moving in front of the door by itself.
"Did you do that?" I ask Charlotte. She nods slowly.
"We've got to get out of here." Elle says, looking around frantically. "They're going to kill us! We have to leave now."
"Okay, focus your mind on something. Anything. Focus on that thing, and try to imagine yourselves there." Charlotte says.
"Why?" Malachi asks.
"Not you Malachi, but the rest of you: because you should be able to teleport yourselves. I'll teleport Malachi with me. We'll meet back up somewhere. But hurry." Charlotte says, taking Malachi's hand.
None of us argue. I guess it might be because we're too scared to say something. I watch as Laye and Elle close their eyes, and then disappear.
I look at Charlotte, and she nods. I close my eyes, enveloping myself in darkness, and try to think.
