III
"When are we leaving?" you asked, your (F/C) paws tingling with eagerness to travel, even though it was only collecting some herbs. "Tommorow." you heard Jayfeather's sigh from the herb store. You padded to the store to see what he was doing. The blue tabby was sorting herbs, leaves were piled up neatly in the cracks. "Go replace the elders' nests if you have nothing to do but watch me." he snapped. You took some dry moss and sped to the elders' den.
"(Y/A/N). Wha' you doing here, young 'un?" you heard Purdy's raspy purr. The tom was old, so it was nothing to worry about. "Get off, I need to replace your nest." you mewed gently. The elder shifted and you grabbed the old moss, putting the new one. "I placed some feathers in the moss." you purred. "Oh, really?" Mousefur meowed blankly. You nodded happily, replacing Mousefur's nest. "Done." you were about to leave, but Mousefur stopped you. "There's a flea at my back, can you help?" she hissed. "I'll go get some mousebile." you nodded again, heading for the medicine den. You grabbed a twig and dipped it in some mousebile, wrinkling your nose because of the disgusting smell. You padded to the other den, then saw Owlpaw. "Hey (Y/A/N)! I learned a new fighting move, want to see?" he bounded to you. "Sure! After I go remove Mousefur's fleas." your voice was a little muffled by the twig. "Ok."
"Finally, that flea was as annoying as Cloudtail and Squirrelflight when they were 'paws." Mousefur stifled a purr. You were confused by this, as you think they were exellent warriors then realised they might be annoying furballs before. You let out a small mrrow of laughter before going to Owlpaw who was waiting outside, Breezepaw with him.
"Watch this!" Owlpaw meowed, ducking underneath Breezepaw and pawing the silver tom's belly. Breezepaw dramaticly fell down and pawed Owlpaw's chest fur. "Cool!" you purred in amusment. "You haven't seen my move yet!" Breezepaw boasted. He leaped and twisted in the air, landing on Owlpaw. "I must admit, that was amazing." Owlpaw huffed. Your (E/C) eyes were wide in shock. As Breezepaw twisted, you saw a small claw mark on his shoulder. "(Y/A/N)? (Y/A/N)!" Breezepaw was infront of you. "O-oh yeah, that was awesome." Breezepaw looked at you suspiciously. "Breezepaw, were there any battles lately? Border patrol battles?" you asked, hiding the confusion and suspicion in your tone. "Um, no. Why are you asking me this?" he replied shifting his paws a little. You narrowed your eyes. "Breezepaw, was there a thorn in your nest?" you meowed, expressionless. "No. . ." he mewed. "Follow me, Breezepaw." you flicked your (F/C) tail and padded to Jayfeather's den, Breezepaw and Owlpaw hot on your heels. "Jayfeather!" You called. "What now?" he growled, approaching you. "Breezepaw has an untreated wound!"
You felt Breezepaw stiffen. "I-I'm okay, its j-just a thorn." he stuttered. "But you just said there weren't any thorns in your nest!" Owlpaw exlaimed. Jayfeather sat down with his tail neatly curled up at his paws. "If Owlpaw is right and there is no thorn, how did it happen?" he snapped. "Get ou-"
"But how did he get a claw mark on his shoulder then?" you interrupted. "Sorry Jayfeather." you sighed. "Claw mark eh? Breezepaw, lets go out for a short walk." Jayfeather smirked and soon the two toms were going out of camp. You saw a muscular golden tabby tom follow them, Lionblaze, Jayfeather's brother. You silently slipped out of camp after you see the toms dissapear out of sight then padded after them, trying not to make a sound.
"Breezepaw, the Dark Forest is lying."
"You have to. . ."
"Breezepaw, . . . to."
"But I want to be. . . best warrior."
"They'll kill you!"
"I was in the. . . once."
"No, Thistleclaw is. . . to be. . . best. . ."
". . . he's . . . dangerous."
"Just like . . . star."
You felt bad eavesdropping, but your curiousity was taking over your senses. You heard Lionblaze talking about how his experience in the Dark Forest, whatever that is. Suddenly, they stopped. "(Y/A/N)?!" you heard Jayfeather snarl at your name. Soon, you saw him standing infront of you with unseathed claws. "J-jayfeather-" you started, (E/C) eyes wide. Your scent lingered with clear fear. Your ears was plastered to your head, your tail tucked underneath your belly.
Jayfeather's POV
She eavesdropped! My own apprentice. Despite the fact that I think I may like her doesn't make her better in my opinion. I striked a blow at her nose, but I knew I would miss about a few mousetails. "I'm sorry!" she squeaked. "Jayfeather, you're scaring her." Lionblaze mewed. "So? She eavesdropped! She said she wanted to be the best apprentice ever, but now she lied!" I growled. "Best isn't perfect." Lionblaze soothed. "Let her get away with this once, Jay." I felt the apprentice trembling with agitation. "Fine." I hissed and stepped back. "Go back to camp and tell no one, not even Owlpaw." (Y/A/N) nodded quickly and scampered away.
