Day 4: Blanket
It was supposed to be a comforting thing, the blanket. It was hers after all.
It had been hers for years, and over that time the two used to use it for comfort. For cuddling under it and enjoying one another's warmth. The smell was that of sweet marshmallows, and the feel was that of a bed of flowers. Comforting and relaxing.
So why wasn't it working now?
It was the same blanket, not washed even once after her departure that had taken place not even two weeks ago.
Ninjago was still shaken up immensely, just like the monastery. Everyone was in their room and ignoring human interaction at all costs, all mourning their loss in their own way.
The Lightning Ninja was buried deep in his thoughts as he clung to the aqua blanket like his life depended on it. In a way, it did. The memories haunted him, and his own thoughts consumed him entirely.
Memories of Nya. Her smile, her voice, her scent, her feel, her character, her temper, her love. Every single trait of hers was reflected in Jay's mind, repeatedly playing like a cassette that was broken and replaying by error.
His nostrils took in the beautiful smell of the blanket that invaded his senses. It was a smell he couldn't quite describe; it was everything that Nya was.
It was a sweet smell, like strawberry marshmallows, but also with a hint of spice, like chili.
Never had Jay ever thought he would like the mix of strawberry marshmallows and chili, but here he was, clinging to it.
They say grief comes in many shapes and forms, but you would have to be the one in that position to know your own form.
And for Jay it was to cling to the only lively thing that was left of his Yang.
Her blanket.
