That Time Again
It was a Monday morning, around 11 am to be specific. The monastery was quiet. That was because the boys went out to the arcade in the early morning to play a new video game which was released earlier that day. Nya decided to not go with them for two reasons: she wanted to sleep well enough and didn't care about video games as much as all of the boys did.
However, she did not expect to wake up earlier than she wanted to. The boys were already gone when she felt a painful sting in her lower stomach.
'You have got to be kidding me!' She thought while being woken up by the pain. She hadn't anticipated her period to come two weeks earlier than expected.
After she spent about fifteen minutes in the bathroom, she walked into the medical room of the monastery. Even though she looked everywhere, she couldn't find paracetamol. Her pain grew harder as she gave up on searching and walked into the kitchen.
She took out the hot water bottle from the upper shelf and put it into the microwave to actually make it hot.
Her plan didn't go that well, however. She was waiting for the bottle to heat up, not paying attention on how she set the settings on the microwave. She was on her phone, scrolling through Ninstagram, when she was suddenly startled by an explosion. She looked over to the microwave which was completely destroyed. The hot water bottle was ripped into pieces.
'Oh great!' She was done in the kitchen and also with her nerves. 'They'll take care of that, hopefully.' She thought to herself.
Her condition worsened with every minute that passed by. She was a very strong woman, could master any rival, but still got defeated by her own body once a month. Yes, she hated that, but there was nothing she could do about it.
She would usually have the worst kind of pain on the first day. That's why she always took paracetamol to relieve the pain, and the hot water bottle for extra support.
The others had always respected her when it was that time. Although they never knew what it felt like, they could see it was horrible for her and emphasized with her. They always tried their best to help her, it hurt them to see her hurt.
This time however, she did not have anything to make the pain go away.
She walked towards the living room and carefully sat down on the couch. There was a big blanket already on the couch, which made her smile. She took it and crouched up on the edge.
Her pain worsened again. This time she couldn't take it anymore and started to cry.
The blanket was covering her entire body except for her head. She was holding her stomach under it and went on with crying. There was just nothing else she could do.
"Nya? Are you alright?" a voice came up from behind her. It was a voice she was never tired of hearing.
She stopped crying and tried to hide it, but that was too late now.
"Hey, what's wrong?" he asked in the sweetest voice he could muster. He sat right next to her crouched body and put a hand on her shoulder.
She looked at him, her face covered in tear stains with bags under her eyes. "It hurts." She let out before turning back around.
"What happened? What hurts?" Jay was scared, hoping it wasn't too severe.
She did not answer which made him think again. "Is it that time again?" He asked slowly, knowing it was a very sensitive topic for her. She slowly nodded, still not looking at him.
"But wasn't it here like two weeks ago?" He was confused about the female body.
"It came earlier than e-expected." She quietly let out through gritted teeth, trying to keep her calm and not start to be a crying mess.
"Naww, I'm so sorry." He pulled her into a side hug. "Did you take in that one pill that makes the pain go away?"
"I couldn't find any. Must've used it all up." She said, still not looking at him.
"How about the hot-"
"I blew up the microwave. Now we need a new microwave and a new hot water bottle. Sorry."
Jay did not mind the microwave being destroyed. He only cared about somehow trying to make her feel better. "Hey, don't apologize."
"What are you even doing here? Aren't you supposed to be in the arcade?" She asked him while letting a tear roll out of her eye.
"Well, I tried to call you, but no one picked up. After many unanswered calls and messages, I got worried." He answered softly.
"Oh, my phone's in my room. Sorry I didn't answer." She paused, before continuing. "Well, you checked up on me, you can go back to the others and have fun now."
"Oh, I've got something more important to do." With that being said, he left the room.
She watched him go and just expected him to go back to the others or do something else. After a short while, she heard footsteps approaching. She looked over to the doorframe. Then she saw Jay again, but apparently he changed his ninja suit into his fluffy hoodie. It was the hoodie he always wore whenever they cuddled. She once picked it for him when they were out shopping together, saying it suited his fluffy personality.
Her sad face changed into a happy one after she saw him walking towards her, wearing her favorite blue, fluffy hoodie. She knew he was gonna stay with her.
He sat next to her again. "Come here." He said while putting his right arm behind her back and his left one under her knees, holding her up bridal style, before resting her body on his lap.
He took the loose blanket off of her and placed it tightly on her body again. She just let him do whatever he wanted, she knew his presence was a good feeling on its own.
He was holding her like a baby now. She didn't really mind, her focus was all on his fluffy hoodie which she caressed with her hands before slowly putting her head on it.
"You know you don't have to do this." She said with her eyes closed, clearly enjoying the moment.
"I know, but I want to. And there's nothing you can do about it." He smiled.
She slowly opened her eyes to look at him. "There's nothing I'm tryna do about it."
He took her hand and kissed the back of it in response. "Have you had any sleep?" He asked afterwards.
"Only a few hours." She answered while closing her eyes again.
"Then you better get some sleep."
"Oh, I will." She responded, enjoying every second of the current moment.
He chuckled. He had always liked being there for her in situations like those.
Suddenly she flinched in pain, holding her stomach in the process. Her eyes were squinted, small tears coming out.
"What's wrong?" Jay was alarmed.
"It hurts so bad!" She almost screamed because of the pain, still holding in the same position.
It was quick thinking time for Jay. He despised seeing her unwell like that, it hurt him. "I know." He said while his hand slid under the blanket. His fingers touched her stomach. He quickly pulled back again, not wanting to do something she might not have liked. "May I?" He asked her.
"Mhm." She let out through gritted teeth. At that point she didn't even care anymore, she just wanted the pain to go away. Besides, she never minded his touch.
He put his hand slowly on her bare stomach. It was very warm. He looked at her softening her face and look at him with small puppy eyes. She always made those whenever she was thankful. Or she wanted something from him, it depended.
She relaxed her entire body, enjoying the warmth of his hand which was now slowly drawing circles on her stomach. He watched her resting her head back on his chest.
It only took him a few minutes until he saw her sleeping. He gave her a small kiss on the forehead. "Sleep well." He mouthed. Then he grabbed the remote and turned on the TV, lowering the sound to zero to keep her sleeping peacefully.
꧁oOoOoOo꧂
Around an hour later, he could hear faint voices from far away. Those voices became louder and louder the farther they walked into the monastery.
"Jay, where are you?!" Cole screamed as he walked into the living room, with the other three being right next to him.
"Pshhh!" Jay said quietly while pointing at the Water Ninja sleeping in his arms.
"Jeez, sorry.." Cole put his hands in the air, accepting his defeat.
The others walked up to them and looked down at her. "What's wrong? Is she okay?" Kai asked.
"No. She's on her... you know what and is in so much pain right now, you have no idea how I found her when I first walked in. It's a miracle she's even asleep right now." Jay answered, looking down at his love sleeping peacefully in his arms.
"Didn't she take-" Lloyd was saying when he got interrupted.
"No, we ran out of that pill she always takes. She also kinda blew up the microwave and her hot water bottle is destroyed. There was nothing to make the pain go away." Jay said.
"Damn, I feel sorry." Cole emphasized.
"I'm sorry, did you just say that she blew up the-" Zane was about to say.
"Who cares about the stupid microwave? We need to do something! Can someone please go to the pharmacy and get some more pills?" Jay looked at them.
"I'll go. What are they called?" Kai volunteered but didn't know what kind of pills they were, he never read the packaging.
"It's paracetamol." Zane replied.
"Thanks. Anything else I gotta get?" He asked.
"Could you also buy a new hot water bottle? I think the pharmacy does sell some." Jay added.
They were distracted by the sudden grunts coming from the girl in Jay's arms. She was about to wake up because of the noises around her made by the boys. "Shhh, it's okay." Jay gently shook her from side to side to make her regain her sleep which was a successful attempt.
After a few seconds of everyone looking down at Nya, the looks went back to each other's faces.
"Sure, I'll try to get it." Kai whispered and took off.
Jay knew he couldn't move to another room or else she would lose her sleep, so he just sat there, holding her tightly in his arms like the protective boyfriend he was.
He watched Zane, Lloyd and Cole sitting down on the couches next to him. They were aware of not being able to make any noises, but didn't mind. Cole pointed at the remote next to Jay, indicating that he wanted to change the channel. Jay handed him the remote quickly, although he was enjoying watching his old show. Only it had changed quite a bit over time, with the Blue Ninja being replaced by an older man.
After only about ten minutes, Kai was back from his trip to the pharmacy. He walked into the living room with a little bag in his hand. Reaching in, he took out both the paracetamol and the red hot water bottle he had bought. He walked up to Jay and Nya and kneeled down to her height. Jay and Kai looked at each other and nodded in agreement. Though they didn't talk, they knew exactly what the other was thinking.
"Nya? Would you wake up for a second, please?" Jay asked slowly and quietly, trying to not startle her. He gently held her cheek and rubbed little circles with his thumb.
Nya let out a little grunt before opening her eyes slightly. Her first look went to Jay who had a huge smile. Then she slowly turned around to see Kai also having a huge smile. "Hey sis, look what I brought." Kai told her, holding a pill in his hand which he had placed there after he pulled out the package from the bag.
She looked down at the pill and turned back to Jay. Then she dug her face into Jay's chest. "I know you don't wanna take it, but you have to to make the pain go away." He said while lightly booping her nose.
"Will it go away?" She asked Jay like a little child. He simply nodded with a reassuring smile on his face. Then she turned back to Kai.
"It will help you, sis." He said softly.
"Okay." She said, trusting both her brother and her boyfriend. Then she slowly reached out her hand to her brother and took the pill. She put it in her mouth. "Water?" She asked, the pill waiting for some liquid for it to be swallowed with.
"Oh yeah, right." Kai was about to stand up, when he felt a hand on his shoulder which was pushing him down to the ground quite gently.
"I'll get some." Zane said while looking at Kai and then Nya. He walked out to get some water from the kitchen.
She turned towards Jay again and asked. "Why is Zane here? And Kai? Aren't they supposed to be in the arcade?" Her voice sounded weaker because of the pill in her mouth.
"They're all back." Jay answered.
She then turned around and looked at Kai. Then she saw Cole and Lloyd sitting on the other couch. "Hello there." Lloyd greeted her while waving his hand slightly.
Then she focused her gaze on Zane who walked back into the room with a glass of water which he handed Jay. "Thanks." Jay told the Nindroid.
Nya wanted to take the glass and drink on her own, but Jay pulled away. He insisted on holding the glass himself and let her drink from it. She gave him a stern look, but quickly gave in, so he held the glass close to her mouth. She leaned forward and took a few sips. The pill quickly went down her throat.
"Thank you." She said after pulling away and wiping away the remaining drops of water on her lips.
"You're welcome." Jay replied softly before giving the glass back to Zane who put it on a table nearby.
She watched as the others all sat on the two couches in the living room. "I can go to my room, so that you don't have to worry about waking me up." She suggested.
"Oh, no need for that." Lloyd answered.
"Yeah, we don't mind." Kai added.
"It's really no problem, we like hanging out as the whole gang." Cole smiled.
"Affirmative." Zane confirmed.
She looked back at Jay who nodded in agreement. "You guys are amazing!" She said while plopping back onto Jay's chest.
