Made With Love
Alright, I had another story to post in my schedule but we👏🏻need👏🏻fluff!👏🏻😤
Did this turn out to be way longer than expected? Yes. Do I regret it? Hell nah, enjoy!
Nya never liked wrapping paper. Ever. It was too much work and it wasn't anything necessary in her opinion. People could just give other people their presents without all the annoying leftovers of the torn wrapping paper that would end up all over the place, right?
Well, her Yin had a different mindset. He loved wrapping paper, especially being able to rip it into tiny pieces.
And Nya knew this all too well, considering being together and living together with him for more than five years now.
As annoying as she found it, she needed it more than ever now.
She only had two days left.
Two days until Jay's birthday.
Yeah, the struggle was real. You see, Nya had been starting to plan on what to get her boyfriend around two months ago.
It was supposed to be a gigantic, blue teddy bear with a red heart in its hands in front of its chest. The heart was supposed to be openable, and whoever owned it could put whatever they wanted in it. Well, Nya would've wanted to put another small present inside, probably a new video game which she thought might interest him. And behind that other present would've been a small, probably white pillow with their initials and anniversary date sewn in with blue thread.
Nya had found the bear on a nice looking website. It said the bear needed to be customized due to it not being sold anymore, so she had ordered it two months before the event of Jay's birthday would take place.
'The perfect gift for the perfect person.'
Once Nya had read that description, she was immediately intrigued. And after inspecting the gift herself, she had realized it really was the perfect gift for Jay.
And so she had added it to her list and bought it. $249 wasn't a low sum, but surely worth making Jay happy.
Yeah, well, it wasn't worth it in the end. Not one bit. Why? Well, he never even got to see it.
Nya had just gotten a message from the company, stating that something went wrong in the shipping. After arguing with the company for about ten minutes, she gave up and was now looking for another present.
It was frustrating.
At least she could get her money back, as well as the shipping money.
But now she was genuinely caught off guard when she found out she needed something new to give Jay.
She had spent the entire day out shopping in Ninjago City. She hated shopping, but now it was the only thing she could think about.
But of course, she found nothing. And Nya was sure that she looked for everything; clothes, smaller things, etc.
She even thought about buying him a new toolbox, but then she remembered he had already bought himself one about a week ago, so that was done for.
It was easier so buy something than making something, that was something she was sure of. Of course she wanted to make something for him as well, but now that her timespan was shortened, she wasn't really convinced of making it in time.
Despite living together with five other men, Jay pretty much had everything he needed, she assumed. She would've loved to buy him some more of the body wash he always used, but he liked to keep it a secret because he knew she loved his smell. It hadn't frustrated her though, she was fine with him hiding it from her up until now.
Anyways, Jay liked to get greased and dirty while working on mechs, just like her. She could buy him a new undershirt because he always liked wearing those while working. If she were being honest, seeing him wearing just an undershirt and sweatpants while working was pretty hot.
"Nya, you know I love anything I get from you, right? I don't need something I can hold or look at, having your love is all I need."
This quote he had once said roamed through her head while she was waiting for two men to go away from the hoodie department so that she could have a look in a clothes shop called 'Forever Ninjago'.
Once her path was cleared, she made her way over to the first hoodie that caught her eye. It was dark blue, and once she flipped it to the side, she could see it had an ugly imprint on the front, so she moved on.
Hoodie after hoodie, then jeans after jeans, then sweatpants after sweatpants, then undershirt after undershirt, then shoes after shoes... She couldn't find anything!
At last, she left the store, frustrated.
Jay was perfect, so he needed to have the perfect gift! She couldn't just give him something imperfect and expect him to like it just because he loved her, she wanted him to genuinely love it without caring about who gave it to him.
Nya walked down the street for a while before stopping in front of a perfume shop. She smiled. A nice smell wouldn't be ba-
Right, she was allergic. How could she just forget about that?!
She sighed, continuing her walk. After a longer while, she came across a noodle shop. Then she realized it was Chen's Noodle Shop, the place where Skylor worked. Right. A small portion of spicy noodles couldn't be bad.
After taking a seat at the far corner of the restaurant, Nya relaxed back in her chair. She had been looking for a gift for more than seven hours now, and she was exhausted, to say the least. She closed her eyes, trying to stop acknowledging the stinging feeling in her feet because of the fact that she had been walking for a long time.
"Hey girl!"
Nya gasped and opened her eyes again, immediately turning her head towards the source of the voice. She relaxed again when she realized it was Skylor.
"Oh, it's you." Nya said.
"What, aren't you excited to see me now?" Skylor grinned. "I didn't expect you to come by during closing hours."
"What do you mean?" Nya raised an eyebrow, watching as Skylor sat down on the chair across from herself.
Skylor chuckled. "It's nine pm, Nya."
Said girl's eyes widened. "What?!"
"Mhm."
Nya then looked around the restaurant to see that she was, in fact, the only one there.
"What's wrong?"
Nya looked back at Skylor and sighed. "If only you knew..."
"Is it about Jay's birthday?" The redhead asked.
"How do you know?" Nya asked back.
Skylor crossed her arms in front of her chest and leaned back in her chair. "Girl, how can I not know about his birthday? He's been talking about it nonstop for like the past two weeks." She rolled her eyes.
Nya sighed. "Sky, I have no idea what to buy him. I've looked everywhere, I've thought about what he would want or need, but there was nothing! N-O-T-H-I-N-G! Nothing!" She groaned. "The gift I bought him like two months ago was cancelled this morning and now I'm here with nothing to give him!"
"To me, Jay seems like the sweet type of guy-"
"He is!" Nya interfered.
"Exactly. So I don't think he would mind if you made something yourself?" Skylor suggested.
Nya glared at her. "I know, but I want him to actually like my gift and not just pretend to because he got it from me."
Skylor hummed. "I'm not sure he would do that. He would like anything, you know. I don't think he would dislike something anyone would ever give him."
Nya sighed. "I know. Ed and Edna taught him pretty well when it comes to making him appreciate people's efforts when doing something for him." She thought out loud.
"Bingo!" Skylor exclaimed, pointing at her friend with handguns.
Just then, Nya's phone started to ring uncontrollably. She pulled it out of her pocket and read the caller ID. She chuckled. "Speak of the angel."
Then she picked up and pressed the phone against her ear. "Hello?"
"Nya?"
"Hey Jay, what's up?"
"What's up?! Nya, it's beginning to get dark, where are you?"
Nya chuckled. "Jay, you worry too much. I'm at Skylor's noodle shop right now."
"That's good. Would you want me to come pick you up?"
"Boy, I'm almost twenty, I think I can come home on my own." She playfully rolled her eyes.
"I know that, I'm just worried."
"I'll be back in about half an hour, okay?"
"Okay, I'll be waiting. Ooh, wanna have a movie night tonight?"
"Sure!"
"Alright, I'll prepare the popcorn, you can pick the movie. My room or your room?"
"I don't really care."
"My room it is. See ya, Nya!"
"Bye, Sparky!"
She sighed happily when she hung up and put her phone away. Then she looked Skylor dead in the eyes, her expression blank. "I need the perfect gift even more urgently now!"
After arriving at home, Nya made her way over to her room to get changed into her pajamas. After changing, she walked up to Jay's bedroom door and knocked. The door almost immediately opened.
Jay smiled, quickly pulling Nya into a tight hug. Then he pulled away slightly to kiss her forehead. "Next time you tell me where you're going, okay? I was so worried." He pulled her into a hug again.
Nya chuckled, burying her head into his chest. "Sorry, Jay. I didn't mean to make you worry."
He pulled away, smiling. "That's fine. Now come on in, the popcorn's done already."
The two walked into his room and got under the covers. Jay brought up his laptop and typed in the password before clicking on Ninflix and handing Nya the laptop. She gratefully took it and looked for a good movie to watch. After looking for what seemed like an eternity, she gave up and just clicked on a cheesy rom-com the two had watched multiple times already.
Nya seemed to be quite intrigued by the movie while she was eating the popcorn the couple shared between them.
She was caught off guard when she felt a pair of soft lips pressing against her cheek. Nya looked towards Jay to see him looking back at her, almost lovestruck. The Water Ninja was already in his embrace, with him having an arm around her waist, yet she smiled and turned red as she made her way to sit between his legs. He seemed to like it and let her get more comfortable before resting his upper body against his bed frame and making her upper body rest against his chest. Jay wrapped his arms around her waist and stuffed his face into her hair.
After many minutes of comfortable silence, the movie's credits started to roll down. Jay then looked down to see his girlfriend fast asleep in his arms. He then reached for the laptop and closed it before putting it aside. Then he grabbed the blanket and tightened it around their bodies, especially hers.
He slowly made his way down and finally laid down, carefully pulling Nya on top of him to use him like a mattress. He smiled when she herself crawled up to his chest and loosely grabbed the string of his hoodie.
Jay kissed the top of her head. "You have no idea how happy you make me." He smiled before he then also found his way into the land of dreams.
The next day arose like any other.
Jay slowly opened his eyes, trying to adjust his sight to the new lighting in his room. Just as he wanted to lift his hand to rub his eye, he realized it was already occupied by someone else's. He lazily glanced down to see Nya sleeping on top of him, her one hand in his and her other hand on his chest.
But why did he wake up? He had a wonderful dream about going on a date with his girlfriend when he suddenly heard screaming. He could've sworn he heard someone screaming. But... who?
"JAY, WHAT IS GOING ON HERE?!"
Jay immediately started to scream at the top of his lungs, waking Nya up who was now screaming as well.
Yeah, maybe not like any other day.
"What the hell, Kai?!" Jay exclaimed, looking at the Fire Ninja as he was leaning above the bed, a purple energy drink in his hand.
"Kai, I thought you accepted our relationship!" Nya glared at him, but it was a very lazy glare.
Kai chuckled. "I do."
"Then why would you wake us up like that?" Jay asked, yawning.
"Lloyd wanted me to tell you that breakfast is in ten." Kai said, making his way back to the door.
Jay groaned. "You could've woken us up in a better way, y'know!" He yelled after the Red Ninja as he walked out of the room, slamming the door behind him.
Then Jay sighed, looking back down to see Nya trying to get comfortable again to fall back asleep. He chuckled. "I don't think falling back asleep is going to be a good choice." He said as he went through her black locks, which were down for once, with his fingers. To his surprise, he couldn't remember any of them taking her hair out of the hair tie, but once he realized her hair tie was around his wrist, he thought he must've taken it out in his sleep or something.
Nya's groan came out muffled once she pressed her head into his chest. "I don't care, I'm comfortable." Then she dug her face even harder into his chest, making him laugh because it tickled.
He then wrapped his other hand around her smaller back. "Alright, but I'm not responsible if we have to do extra work today."
After getting no response whatsoever, Jay realized she must've fallen back asleep again, so he sighed and smiled, watching her back rise and fall with each breath she was taking.
Suddenly, the door was yanked open.
"WHAT DID I JUST SAY?!"
Jay glared at him. "KAI, JUST LET YOUR SISTER SLEEP IN PEACE, JESUS!"
"CAN YOU TWO SHUT UP?!"
Both boys looked down to see Nya stirring before she rolled off of Jay's body and got out of bed. She then walked over to her brother and sleepily tried to glare at him. "I'll get you back." She said in a lower voice, making Kai's eyes widen as he watched her leave the room. He looked over at Jay who narrowed his eyes at him.
"Of all the times you ruin our moments, did you really have to destroy this one?!"
"I-"
"Just get out of my room." Jay sighed.
Kai nodded and left the room, suddenly feeling not-so-well anymore.
Breakfast went by fast, with everyone happily chatting and eating. Once everyone was done, Nya pulled Cole to the side in a free moment.
"What are you-"
"Shhh!" Nya interrupted him. "I need you to do a favor for me."
Cole raised an eyebrow. "What kind of a favor?" He asked slowly.
Nya looked from side to side before leaning closer to his ear. "I need you to distract Jay for the rest of this day." She whispered.
"Why?" He whispered back.
Nya glared at him. "Maybe because his birthday is tomorrow?!" She whisper-shouted.
"Right. What do you want me to do with him?"
"I don't know, I don't care. I just need him to forget about me existing for a while." Nya answered.
"I'm not sure he'll ever be able to-"
"Yeah, I know." She hissed. "Just... play some video games together or something."
"What are you gonna do?" Cole asked.
The Water Ninja looked from side to side once again, checking if anyone else was in proximity. "I'm going to try to bake a-"
"Cake?!" Cole exclaimed.
Nya hissed as she shushed him by pressing her hand against his mouth. After a few seconds she pulled it away. She glared at him.
He nervously scratched his neck. "Sorry."
She rolled her eyes. "Yeah, I'm gonna bake him a cake. But I'll need Zane to do that, so me and Zane will be considered nonexistent for that time being, understood?"
"What type of cake is it gonna be?"
"Cole." She said through gritted teeth.
"I said, what type of-"
"I was thinking of making something like chocolate and blueberries with blue sprinkles or whatever, I don't know yet."
Cole then put his hands on her shoulders. "I approve of your cake idea, so I will help you. I'd say you have around two hours before he'll start to mention you, so try to hurry."
Nya nodded, just as serious. "Alright, thank you."
"No probs."
The two then parted ways, Cole walking to find Jay and Nya to find Zane.
Many hours passed as Nya could finally sit down on the kitchen counter. She was covered in flour and cake ingredients, and she was totally done with everything. Zane had left a while ago, but he wasn't much of a use anyway. Nya hadn't let him take over of anything because she wanted the cake to be a gift of her and only her. She had only told him to correct her if he could see her do something incorrectly, which happened more than she had wanted him to.
Nya was decent in the kitchen, but when it came to baking, she was just awful.
After letting the cake cool off and decorating it in a lot of blue, she admired her handiwork from afar. It was a two layer round based cake, sugarcoated in blue. The lower layer was a darker shade of blue, whereas the upper one was a lighter one. Both layers had light blue icing neatly sprayed on them and different shades of blue sprinkles and pearls did the final touch.
Nya was definitely proud of herself for making something like that in a day's work.
She had already chosen another present to give him, and this cake was just the cherry on top. The Water Master quickly stored the cake somewhere safe before anyone could get their hands on it.
After not being able to get the teddy bear, Nya decided to hang onto the idea of doing something with their initials. So she quickly made her way over to a well-known jewelry store.
Nya knew Jay was more of a softer type of boy. She also knew that he was wearing his half of their Yin-Yang pendant on a gold chain around his neck, just like her, so he wouldn't mind another type of jewelry, right?
Anyways, since Nya wanted to keep it neat and easy, she chose to get him a bracelet. So, after spending around an hour in the store, Nya left with a small, dark blue box in her hands happily.
~ oOoOoOo ~
The next morning arrived earlier than wanted, but since it was such a special day, Nya jumped out of her bed at five in the morning. She hurried into the dining room to decorate the room with streamers, confetti and balloons, all in blue of course.
After that was done, Nya checked every corner to see if she could find anything to improve. She couldn't find anything to do, so she went back to her room and got dressed into her casual gi. Then she waited until it was six am and walked up to Jay's room.
She quietly knocked, in case he was awake, which he wasn't, before she slowly opened the door. Nya peeked inside to see him sleeping.
She walked up to his bed and looked at his face, seeing a little smile on his lips as he was clutching Mr Cuddlywomps.
An adorable sight, in her opinion.
She slowly sat down on his bed and went through his chocolate brown hair with her fingers, watching as he leaned into her touch. Nya smiled and leaned down to kiss his temple. "It's time to wake up, Jay." She murmured against his ear.
He let out a cute little squeak as he could feel her hot breath tickle his auricle. One of his eyes lazily opened, trying to look for who was with him. He smiled when he could focus on the beautiful face of his girlfriend.
Jay mumbled incoherent nothingness as he let go of Mr Cuddlywomps and reached for Nya's waist. She chuckled quietly as he tried to pull her into his bed.
"Do you know what day it is?" Nya asked, not giving him the satisfaction of pulling her next to him.
"The day you confessed your love to me?" He mumbled, making her laugh.
"No, silly! Keep thinking!" She kept on caressing his hair.
Jay closed his eyes, smiling. "Gimme a hint."
Nya hummed. "It's a very special day today."
"That's not helpful."
She laughed. "But I can't tell you too much, or else it'll ruin the moment."
He yawned, stretching. "Nothing about you ever ruins the mome-" Just then, Jay's eyes shot open and he sat up straight in his bed. "It's my birthday!" He exclaimed, smiling. The Master of Lightning then reached his arms out for his girlfriend.
Nya laughed as she leaned into his touch and gave him a huge hug. "Happy birthday, Sparky!"
He swooped her into his lap and buried his face into her shoulder, his arms around the small of her back. He chuckled. "Can you always wake me up like this?" His eyes looked up at her.
She smiled before she kissed his forehead. "If I wake up earlier than you, then sure."
Jay took this opportunity to pull her lips down to his, embracing her in a sweet kiss. Nya sighed into the kiss as she wrapped her arms around his neck and pressed herself closer against his chest.
"HAPPY BIRTHDAY, ZAPTRAP!"
The couple flinched before the two parted and Nya quickly got off of his lap, both looking at the source of the yelling. They could see Kai, Cole, Zane and Lloyd standing in the doorway with streamers around their heads and limbs. All four of the boys started to smirk once they realized what they disturbed the two at.
"Did we... interrupt something?" Cole smiled sheepishly.
Jay groaned. "A little bit." Then he sighed. "What time is it?"
"Time for you to open your gifts!" Lloyd exclaimed as he ran up to him and started to drag him by the arm. The Blue Ninja laughed as he quickly grabbed Nya's hand before pulling her out of bed as well.
Once they all arrived at the dining room, Jay gasped when seeing all the decorations. Cole came out of nowhere and put a blue party hat on Jay's head. Once he turned around to look at the others, he realized they were already wearing their own party hats. He smiled as he sat down on his chair.
"Alright, birthday boy. Would you like to open the gifts first, or eat your cake." Kai asked.
Jay gasped. "We can eat cake for breakfast?" When the others nodded, he started to hum. "Then I wanna have the cake first, what kind of a question is that?!" He laughed.
Nya and Zane nodded at each other before standing up and leaving the room. Once they returned with the big birthday cake in their hands, Jay's eyes widened and his mouth fell open. He watched as the two carefully put the cake in the middle of the table. Zane went over to the counter and brought a big knife, holding it out for Jay. "You may cut it."
Jay took the knife before putting it on the table. "Alright, before anyone touches that cake, we gotta take some pictures with it." He commanded as if it were a necessity. After enough pictures were taken of the group together with the cake, Jay smiled, looking at the blue double layered goodness in front of him. "It's so pretty."
The fact that Jay complimented Nya's work without knowing she had made it was enough for her to feel her cheeks burning up. However, she wanted to wait until he tasted the cake before telling him she had made the cake.
"Come on, we don't have all day!" Cole exclaimed, impatiently waiting for Jay to start cutting the cake already. Lloyd elbowed his ribs as a response, glaring at him. "Sorry." The Master of Earth hissed.
Jay pouted. "But it's too pretty to cut through."
"But don't you wanna taste it?" Nya asked.
"Meh, that's true." Jay said before carefully stabbing the cake and cutting out a piece and putting it on his plate. After he did that for the rest of his friends too, he sat down and looked at everyone else looking back at him. "What?"
"You get the first bite, Jay." Zane said, smiling.
"Yeah, and hurry!" Cole added, eyeing the cake.
Jay rolled his eyes at him before picking up a piece with his fork and stuffing it into his mouth. The others, especially Nya, watched as he slowly chewed a few times before swallowing. He silently looked down at his plate before looking back up. "Where did you get this? This tastes so good!" He said before taking another bite.
Nya's eyes widened. "It is?!" She asked before taking a bite as well. "Damn, it really is." She mumbled, smiling. The others then started eating, too.
After a short while, Jay spoke up. "Where did you buy this?"
When everyone turned towards Nya, she blushed and smiled as she looked down. "Uh... I kinda... made it."
Jay's eyes widened. "You made this?!" When Nya slowly nodded, she lifted her head to look back at him, seeing his eyes and mouth wide open. He then looked back and forth between Nya and the cake for a few times before stopping his gaze at his girlfriend. "Oh, my gosh, it was so good! You made all this effort for me?"
Nya nodded, looking away. "I'm glad you like it."
"Like it? I love it!" Then he pulled his Yang into a hug. "Thank you so much, Nya! I love you!" He whispered into her ear.
She smiled. "I love you too, Jay. Happy birthday!" She whispered back.
"Alright, lovebirds, it's time for the gifts now!" Cole said, making the two pull away again.
And so they spent the next thrity minutes, with Jay opening gifts he got from his friends. Cole got him the expanded version of the latest update of Prime Empire, which Jay promised to try out with him first. Lloyd gave him a pair of blue sneakers, knowing he liked to be reckless with his old ones. Zane gave him some spare parts for his new project he had been telling everyone about which apparently needed some parts that were impossible to get in any stores, so Zane asked Borg for help and sure enough, he got the parts. Kai gave him two things: the permission of him and his sister being all couple-y in front of him for a whole week and a blue, customized phone case, considering his current one looked like it had experienced some... things.
And last but not least, it was Nya's turn to give him her present. It seemed to be a small box, wrapped in all-blue wrapping paper with a small bow on top. He thanked her before slowly ripping the wrapping paper, revealing a nice, dark blue jewelry box. He smiled as he lifted the lid and gasped at the sight in front of him. He took out the small item, revealing it to be a bracelet.
Jay looked more closely at it, a small smile appearing on his face. The silver chain was rather thin, and there was a small, thin metal plate attached to both ends. At the front of the plate was a carving of a small lightning bolt, but once you turn it around, there was another carving. There was a J, next to it a small heart, and next to that was an N. Under that was a date, and after looking more closely, Jay realized it was their anniversary date.
After he didn't give any reactions, Nya assumed he didn't like it. "It's fine if you don't like it, I can return it and get you something else."
Then, when Jay lifted his head again, Nya realized the small tear rolling down his cheek. Did he hate it that much?
He looked at her, clutching the bracelet close to his chest. He sniffed. "I love it."
Nya let out a sigh of relief before opening her arms for him. Jay jumped into her embrace and hugged her tightly. "Thank you." He murmured before pulling away and giving her the bracelet. "Can you put it on my wrist?"
She nodded and smiled as she tied the bracelet around his left wrist. Once it was done, Jay admired the silver jewelry, smiling. Just then, Wu entered the room.
"Good morning, students. And happy birthday, Jay." He smiled.
"Thanks, Master." Jay smiled back.
Wu let out a breath before looking at the couple. "I see you have already opened your presents." He said as he walked over to the table, his staff clicking every time he set it on the ground. "There is something I would like to give you, too. Actually, it is kind of a collective present from all of us."
Nya creased her eyebrows at him. She didn't remember something like that?
"We have been thinking, and believe me when I say that it was a decision we have been discussing for a while now." Wu continued.
"What are you talking about?" Jay asked.
Wu smiled. "We have decided that you and Nya are allowed to share a room."
"What?" Jay asked, looking at Wu before looking at Kai. "What?!" Then he looked at Nya whose mouth was hanging open, seemingly just as shocked.
Kai groaned. "Yeah, well, you two are pretty much spending your time in each other's rooms nowadays anyway, so might as well do it officially."
Nya's eye twitched. "You're okay with that?!" She asked her brother.
"I mean, I'm still your brother so no, but there's nothing I can do about your relationship. Besides, Jay's a good guy." He said before looking at said boy. "He is a good guy." He repeated through gritted teeth, hoping Jay would get the message which he definitely did.
Before anyone could say anything, the gate's doorbell rang, making them all flinch.
"I'll go." Lloyd announced and left the room.
"I wonder who it is." Wu said, stroking his white beard.
They all heard Lloyd gasping. "Oh, my god! Did anyone order a huge, blue teddy bear?! He's adorable!"
Nya groaned. "YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!"
