His Scream, Her Tears
Exhausted and done for the day, the Ninja arrived from another mission. Some flopped onto the couch in the living room, whereas some invaded the kitchen, *cough* Cole *cough*.
"I'll go take a shower." Nya told them, her voice tense.
They all watched her leave the room, but the atmosphere wasn't as it had always been. It was a weird scenario. You see, the mission was about a little group of fugitives who tried to rob a bank. Usually they would be an easy catch, but this time however, the Ninja actually struggled a bit. It was something new to everyone, even the criminals. After the Ninja had caught them in the end, they were quite exhausted.
But after Cole suggested to go to Laughy's karaoke bar to cool down, they all agreed. Then they just sat at a booth together and enjoyed their evening, until an old friend of Nya's came by to say hello. After some small talk he left again, but when Nya went to the restroom and didn't come back for a bit, Jay walked over to her to see her standing alone with that friend, talking to him. After that, Jay and Nya had been tense towards each other for the rest of the evening until they came back home. The others didn't even know why.
After getting some rest on the couch, Jay excused himself. He walked towards Nya's room and knocked. Then, after he heard a 'come in', he opened the door. There he saw Nya looking into the mirror on her vanity, brushing her wet hair.
"We need to talk." Jay told her.
She sighed and put the brush down. "We really do, because I can't really understand you right now." She looked him dead in the eye.
"You know exactly what I mean, Nya. What were you doing there? Alone with him?" He took a step closer to her as she got up.
"I already told you that we were talking. He told me about his parents because I asked him to. It's called small talk." She narrowed her eyes at him.
"Oh yeah? Then why were you so close to each other?" His voice was uncomfortably low.
She rolled her eyes. "Do you really wanna tell me that you think we did something? Are you that jealous?"
"Answer my question!" He lightly raised his voice.
"Well, believe it or not, he was tying his shoe laces and just as he got up, he slightly stumbled towards me. When he realized that though, he backed away immediately."
"Oh really? It seemed like he only backed away when he saw me..." Jay's voice wasn't the usually squeaky one she adored, but only a voice covered in venom.
"What's that supposed to mean?" She lowered her voice as well. She knew exactly what he was implying to, but wanted to hear it coming out of his mouth.
He took one step closer. "You know exactly what it means, Nya."
"No, I wanna know what you mean." She crossed her arms.
"Oh, don't you think it's kinda suspicious of you to, I don't know, to just disappear into the 'restroom' only for me to find you standing close to some dude I don't know who is apparently 'only an old friend'?" He asked loudly.
She couldn't believe it. Her boyfriend could get overprotective easily, but she'd never seen him this different before.
"Are you saying that I cheated on you?!" She exclaimed angrily.
"Very much so." He answered.
"Jay, I would never cheat on you, especially not with him!" She yelled. She yelled?
"JUST LIKE YOU NEVER CHEATED ON ME WITH MY BEST FRIEND?" He shouted back.
Nya was taken aback. "Jay, we've talked about this. I've already apologized for what I've done, and-"
"I KNOW WE HAVE! YET I STILL CAN'T ENTIRELY RECOVER FROM HOW BAD YOU HURT ME BACK THEN." He still screamed at her. "MY OWN. BEST. FRIEND!"
She could feel her tears welling in her eyes, but forced them back. He's never screamed at her before like that, and it hurt badly. "Jay-"
"NO, DON'T JAY ME! DO YOU KNOW WHAT IT FEELS LIKE TO WORRY ABOUT EVERY SINGLE MAN MY 'OH SO GREAT' GIRLFRIEND IS WITH?! DO YOU KNOW WHAT IT FEELS LIKE TO SEE THE LAST BIT OF YOUR TRUST SLIP AWAY?" It felt like he yelled out his entire heart to the person he loved the most. "DO YOU KNOW WHAT IT'S LIKE TO ALWAYS GIVE YOU COMPLIMENTS, TO ALWAYS TELL YOU HOW MUCH I LOVE YOU, FOR ONLY TO GET NO FREAKING RESPONSE? HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO KNOW YOU LOVE ME, HUH?"
The room fell silent. Jay was breathing heavily, watching his girlfriend the entire time. She on the other side had her head down.
When she looked back at him, he realized the tears rolling down her cheek. Her usually hopeful and beautiful eyes were now filled with pain. Pain that he caused. His eyes widened. He tried to step closer to brush away the tears when she flinched as she saw his hand coming closer to her face and backed away. As she did so, he realized how hurtful he just was and felt like he was about to cry himself.
He opened his mouth, his eyes still wide from the realization. "Nya-"
"Don't touch me." She told him with a lump in her throat. A few new tears went down. "If you can't trust me with what I t-told you, just go to the bar and watch the security tapes."
He didn't know what to say, he just hurt his girlfriend when he was supposed to be the one to comfort her whenever she was hurt. "Nya, I'm-"
"Please just leave my room." She wanted to get him to leave so that she could be alone, because she didn't enjoy his presence anymore.
"Please let me-" He stepped closer and just wanted to apologize but she stepped back again.
"Leave my room!" She demanded.
He took one last look at her before he walked out and closed the door. After he was out, he felt his own cheeks drown in salty water.
Guilt filled his guts. He realized he overreacted because of something that wasn't anything to worry about and brought up old stuff they both had agreed on to let go a while ago.
He needed to make amends, that was for sure. But then he could hear faint sobbing from the other side of the door. He turned around and stared at the door, listening to his girlfriend crying because of him.
"What's wrong?"
Jay looked next to him to see Cole walking up to him. There was no point in hiding his already tear stained face.
"I messed up." Jay answered, lowering his head and letting new tears flow out of his eyes.
Cole looked at his best friend with worry plastered on his face. "What do you mean?" He put his hand on Jay's shoulder.
Jay looked up at him. "I hurt her." He whispered to not cry out loud.
The Earth Ninja widened his eyes. "What? How? What happened?" Then he listened closely and could hear sobs coming out of Nya's room. "Jay, what did you do?"
Jay then broke down quietly, his whole body shaking. Cole then took his best friend into a hug, with him sobbing into his shoulder. After a short while, he stopped again and pulled away.
The Blue Ninja then explained his friend everything. Cole didn't sound pleased with what Jay had done to Nya, and there wasn't really anything he could do, so he just advised him to talk to her and apologize.
After Cole walked away again, Jay hesitated. He was genuinely scared of seeing her reject him. Then he knocked. No answer. He knocked again. Still nothing.
"N-Nya, can I c-come in, pl-ease?" He stuttered out, trying not to break down a second time.
Nya still didn't answer, but Jay could hear some moving from the other side. Then the door opened. There, he saw Nya standing in front of him, eyes puffy red.
That sight broke his heart more. "I'm so sorry." He attempted to hug her, but she only backed away.
"No, I'm sorry. I've hurt you enough, it was only fair to get it back."
Jay's eyes watered. He then stepped inside and closed the door. Then he rushed over to her and pulled her into a hug, he didn't care that she had backed away a few seconds ago.
It took her a few seconds to hug back, but when she did, she gripped his gi tightly, crying into his chest. Jay also cried into her hair. The couple stayed silent for a while until she broke the silence. "I'm so s-sorry, I shouldn't have ac-c-ted that way."
"No, Nya! I o-overreacted! Please don't take blame for what I've done." He pulled away to look at her. "I'm so sorry. I didn't mean anything."
"B-But you're right about everything. It's c-completely understandable that you don't t-trust m-me."
Then and there, Jay's heart shattered to pieces. "Nya," Some tears escaped his eyes which she saw. "I never meant that, okay?" He cupped her face. "I never meant what I said, I d-don't even know how I came up with that. Please believe me. I love you with everything I am and I don't want you to doubt yourself because I bursted out stuff I didn't mean, okay?" He then pulled her back into a hug. "I love you so m-much!"
"I love y-"
He quickly pulled away and put his hand on her mouth, stopping her before she could say it back. "Don't," He said softly. "That's not the way you express your feelings, and I don't want it to become like that because of my stupidity. I know you love me and I don't want you to feel like you have to use those words for me to know it." He then put his hand away.
Nya smiled softly and then embraced Jay in a tight hug this time. "Thank you." She mumbled against his chest.
After they pulled away again, he looked into her eyes deeply. "I'm so sorry for the way I acted and that I made you cry."
"It's fine, we both messed up." She laughed, making him laugh a little as well. "Come on, I'm in the mood for some video games." Nya said as she walked out of her room.
Jay's mouth hung wide open. "You really wanna play?!"
"Don't make me regret it!" He heard her shouting afterwards.
He had never run faster.
