Down The Drain

Spoiler warning: If you haven't watched Ninjago Crystalized, I wouldn't advise you to read this. Though I don't think there's much to spoiler here? Whatever, you've been warned.

Set in/after episode 6 of season 15, Crystalized. Imagine that the ninja have not been imprisoned and they are all just living in the monastery happily ever after or something.

"I need the wrench!"

"She needs the wrench!"

"I don't have a wrench!"

"I have the wrench!"

"Well, give it to her!"

"What happened to please?!"

Nya rolled her eyes as she supported herself on her knee to stand up straight. Stretching a little, she let out a sigh before turning away from the vehicle she had been working on for more than two hours now to face three of her closest family members who were arguing over the wrench she had just requested.

She put her hands on her hips and gave them a stoic look. "Do you guys always have to argue over everything?"

"We wouldn't have to argue if your brother had some manners!" her boyfriend exclaimed, pointing at Kai who was glaring back at him.

"I do have manners, just not towards you," the Master of Fire retorted, crossing his arms and huffing out of his nose.

"Kai," Nya sighed. "Can't you just be nice to Jay for once?"

"Yeah, Kai," Jay mocked. "Would it kill you to use 'please' for once?" he put a hand to his heart in an attempt to look hurt.

"Don't push it, Walker," Kai warned. Then he let out a hard breath before throwing the towel that was hanging down from his shoulder on the floor and storming out of the vehicle bay, leaving nothing but confused stares following his retreating figure.

"What crawled up his panties and died this morning?" Cole wondered out loud, opening a bottle of ice cold water he had grabbed out of the mini fridge and gulping down the contents.

"No idea," Jay shrugged as he turned back around to continue working on his own vehicle.

The four had been working on their vehicles for needed upgrades and features since after lunch, just enjoying the peace each other's company was giving them while minding their own businesses.

Even though the others had disagreed, Nya insisted on going straight back to working for the team.

Yes, she lost her powers, but that didn't mean that she couldn't still work on vehicles and such.

Besides, she was already feeling useless, there was no need for her to feel even worse, especially after having returned not-so-long ago.

Four days, to be exact.

Jay, who quickly finished using the wrench for his own vehicle, turned around and walked across to the other side. "Here's the wrench," he announced, holding it out for Nya.

She smiled at him as she grabbed the tool. "Thank you."

"You're welcome," her Yin answered before walking back to his spot.

"Okay, but seriously," Cole started, catching the couple's attention. "What is wrong with Kai?"

"Everything," Jay muttered under his breath. After receiving a flat look from Nya, he realized he must've spoken a bit loudly, so he straightened up and cleared his throat. "I mean, I don't know," he laughed nervously, watching Nya the entire time to gauge her reaction while he was speaking poorly about her brother. "He's been like this since... forever."

"True, but he's been angrier these past few days, don't you think?" Cole asked.

Nya sighed, turning away from the boys and looking down at the wrench in her hand. "He's upset with me," she murmured while examining the wrench as if it was the first time she had ever seen one.

"Why would he-"

"Think, guys, think!" she cut Cole off harshly, turning back around to face the two as their eyes went wide and their bodies froze like a deer caught in the headlights of an oncoming car. "I was gone for a year, an entire year, causing everyone around me to change. And definitely not for the better. I hurt him! I hurt him, because I did something he couldn't do anything about. He's my brother, so of course he's going to try to blame the next best thing near him which, in this case, would be me," she finished, breathing heavily after her outburst.

As Nya finished, the boys' eyes filled with hurt and sympathy. They had been hit hard by her loss for that entire year, too.

Especially Jay who managed to grow a beard that he was somehow able to rip off as if the hairs were not deeply attached into his skin, but whatever.

"But he has no right to blame anyone," Cole said softly. "I think he just has to cool down for a bit."

"I think so too," Jay agreed, smiling encouragingly at Nya.

She shrugged. "I don't know, it could take a while, but whatever."

"Guys!"

They all turned to the voice, seeing Lloyd in the doorway peeking around with only his head showing. His blonde locks fell down into his eyes which he quickly moved away with his hand.

"Dinner's ready," he informed them before disappearing just as fast as he came.

The three then looked at each other. They shrugged simultaneously and put the things in their hands away before walking out of the vehicle bay together.

About ten minutes later, everyone was seated around the dining table.

It was still a weird feeling to have everyone sitting at the same table again. It had been a year since they had decided to separate themselves from each other, after all.

But now that Nya was back, they were acting like a family once again.

And yet, something seemed off. As much as Nya wanted to just go back to being as close as she had been with everyone before her departure, she couldn't help but sense that something was still wrong.

And unfortunately she knew who that energy was coming from.

Looking around the table, she watched as everyone was eating the delicious pasta Pixal made. Her eyes stayed at her lover for a bit longer before averting to the person across from herself; her brother.

He still had a frown on his face as he was chewing on his food.

She shook the feeling of uneasiness off and continued to eat her own meal, up until someone cleared their throat.

"I'm done. Thanks, Pix," Kai announced as he stood up and immediately headed out of the dining room.

Nya watched as her brother walked out of the room, but she knew that he was walking away from her.

She sighed, putting her fork down. "I'll go speak to him," she excused herself. Then she quickly followed Kai to the courtyard.

Once she stepped out, she was hit with a cold breeze. Ignoring the sudden goosebumps erupting in her skin, she watched as her brother stood in the middle of the open field with his head held up high at the dark sky, his eyes closed and his shoulders relaxed.

"Can we talk?" she asked him, approaching him.

Then she heard him hiss under his breath before turning around to look at her with an unreadable expression. "About what?"

"Something is bothering you, and it's getting on my nerves how you keep running away from me whenever I want to talk to you or spend some time with you."

He scoffed. "Excuse me?" He crossed his arms in front of him, giving his sister an incredulous look. "It's getting on your nerves?"

"Just tell me what's wrong already, Kai," Nya rolled her eyes.

"Don't you roll your eyes at me, Nya," he said seriously. "You think this is all about you, don't you?"

"What?"

"Don't play so clueless. You were gone for a whole year and now you're walking around like nothing's ever happened!" He yelled, surprising her.

"So this is what it's all about," she nodded humorlessly. "You're still upset about me leaving."

"No, Nya, I'm not upset about you just leaving, I'm upset about you being selfish enough to only think about yourself!"

"What did you just call me?" Nya asked him calmly.

"You heard me loud and clearly, sister," Kai answered, narrowing his eyes at her.

"Now you listen to me," she seethed as she took a step towards her brother with her hands balled up to fists beside her body. "I merged with the sea because I had no other choice! Or don't you remember what was going on that day, huh? Tell me!" she yelled.

"Nya-"

"No, Kai, you don't get it. We were all trapped inside that stupid building and hiding from some octopus that submerged our home in water."

Kai huffed. "I remember that. And I also remember waking up to seeing my own sister drowning herself in her element and DOING THE ONE THING EVERYONE TOLD HER NOT TO!"

"THAT'S BECAUSE MY BOYFRIEND WAS ABOUT TO F***ING DIE RIGHT IN FRONT OF US!" she yelled back, making Kai's eyes widen at the anger in her voice. "DO YOU KNOW WHAT IT FELT LIKE TO SEE YOUR OWN BOYFRIEND ABOUT TO DIE BECAUSE OF YOUR OWN POWERS, AND THERE BEING NOTHING YOU CAN DO BECAUSE WE COULDN'T GET HIM TO A HOSPITAL?!"

"You know I didn't mean it like that-"

"WE BOTH KNOW YOU DID, KAI! He was lying on that couch, and he was barely keeping his eyes open. He kept coughing, but no water came out. His strength was drained to the point he could barely hold my hand. DO YOU KNOW HOW SCARED I WAS THAT HE WAS GOING TO DIE RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME?!"

By now, angry tears were glistening in Nya's eyes.

"You don't know what it felt like, Kai," she concluded, allowing the tears to take over and roll down her face without her trying to hide them or wipe them away.

In no time, she felt arms wrap around her body and her body being pressed against her brother's chest.

She could hear him trying to shush her and comfort her the best way her could, but after a breakdown like that, there was no way she could calm down.

Up until now she had tried to bury the fact that Jay could've died on that day deep down and tried to forget about it in the best way she could, but a confrontation like this brought everything back up again.

It was like all efforts she had made to keep her feelings hidden went down the drain.

As Kai was holding his sister tightly, he realized that the other four boys and Pixal were all standing on the stairs to the monastery. He assumed that they were curious as to why the two had been yelling just now. They were all looking at the siblings sympathetically.

Then he saw tears rolling down Jay's face as well.

Sniffing, Nya detached herself from her brother and wiped the tears away from her face with the palms of her hands.

"I have no regrets," she whispered.

Then she turned around and headed for the door to get back inside. On her way over to the stairs, she lifted her head and saw the many pairs of eyes looking back at her, the one pair she was hoping wasn't there staring back at her with tears of his own rolling down his cheeks.

She held his gaze the entire time she climbed the stairs before looking away and heading inside.

Nya immediately entered her bedroom and closed the door. She then threw herself onto her bed and buried her face into her pillow, letting her quiet sobs shake her body.

This went on for a while before she managed to compose herself and lifted her head again.

A slow creak disturbed the calm atmosphere. She heard as the person let themself in and closed the door again before steps neared her bed.

When she felt the bed dip down, she quickly turned her head away from whoever it was, though she had a sneaky suspicion on who it could have been.

"Nya."

Yeah, it was him.

Hearing him sigh, she felt him wrap one of his arms around her shoulders before pulling her into his chest.

She silently wrapped her own arms his torso and dug her face into his shoulder. Fortunately for her, she didn't start crying again. All they did was stay in each other's embrace for a few minutes time.

"Do you want to talk about it?" Jay asked her while rubbing slow circles on her back. He took a small sniff of her hair and smiled in contentment when the refreshing ocean breeze hit his nostrils.

Nya sighed. She knew there was no way she could escape that situation.

Nodding, she slowly detached herself from her boyfriend to look at him. "You can ask now."

"What was up back then? I mean, I know I had swallowed a crap ton of water, and I knew that at the time too, but just... Why?"

The slight crack that was evident by the end of his sentence made the frown on Nya's face only bigger.

Taking a shaky breath, she looked into his eyes as she opened her mouth. "You were going to die. I had to do it."

"But you- I-" he sighed. "It worked, but you still shouldn't have done that, Nya," he told her desperately.

"I don't regret it, Jay. It worked out just fine," she smiled, lightly caressing his cheek with her fingertips.

"But you gave everything up for it... for me," he told her as his eyes glistened with unshed tears.

Nya shrugged. "Yeah, and I'd do it again."

As Jay's sniffing rung in Nya's ears, her eyes grew wide.

"Oh, no, no, please don't cry, Jay," she murmured while playing with the curls in his hair.

After a few seconds, Jay managed to compose himself as he let out a deep breath.

"Better?" Nya asked him.

"Yes," he nodded.

"Good," she smiled. "I still stand by what I said, though."

And with that, Jay broke down in his girlfriend's arms, happy that he was able to feel her body against his again after having to cuddle with glasses of water for a year.

There, my first oneshot after having been gone for the past few months. So... I'm back? I feel like it's not as good as my previous oneshots. I can practically smell how my writing isn't like how it used to be, but I really hope you enjoyed it nonetheless. Please tell me you did. God, the anxiety I'm feeling right now is unreal. Anyways, toodles!
