Chapter 42: Civil War on Remnant

(The Shinkengers and the Teen Titans are seen in a space javelin traveling to Remnant.)

Jaune: Never thought I would have to return to hell again...

Virginia: Don't worry, my husband. I will protect you.

Blue Beetle: And I thought an Earth ruled by Superman was bad enough.

Firestorm: One of the moles Batman sent to that planet told him about a civil war which is happening.

Jaune: But Ozma...

Firestorm: Not that, Jaune. It looks like the Branwen siblings started fighting each other and even had others involved.

Kevin: I just hope we can stop them in time. But what gets me more worried is those Ayakashi.

Zach: If we find them, we'll be ready to face them.

(The scene fades into the desert skyline of the capital city of Mantle in Remnant. It pans down to the city buildings, and finally the streets, where a battalion of Qrow Branwen and his allies march through, along with the Remnant equivalent of horses dragging a large carriage. Leading the march are the happy huntress Robyn Hill and the headmaster of Signal Academy known only as Theodore. The scene cuts to the inside of the carriage, and our first sight of Ozluminati's last remaining member; the drunken huntsman Qrow Branwen.)

Qrow: Twenty million.

(The camera cuts to who he is speaking with; the Haven Headmaster Leonardo Lionheart. Sitting beside him is Nebula Violette, leader of Team NDGO.)

Leonardo: Qrow, what's the expression? "S' not worth the dirt on my shoe"?

Nebula: Qrow has always bargained with you fairly, Leonardo.

Leonardo: Sure, sure. I'm just sayin'; upgraded weapons, my intel - and poof! The long Remnant civil war - done. Might be nice to kick back a bit, eh?

Qrow: You know Raven's location.

Leonardo: And 'er whole rebel army. S'gotta be worth at least fifty.

Qrow: I must attack her. Immediately. End this conflict. As you say...

(Leonardo looks over to the rooftops through the carriage windows. He spots the Branwen Tribe leader, Raven running over them, accompanied by the Schnee Dust Company's heir Whitely Schnee.)

Qrow: ...it drains us.

(Leonardo refocuses his attention on Qrow.)

Leonardo: Right. Do we have a deal?

(The driver of Qrow's cart suddenly calls a halt, bringing the carriage to a stop. Nebula immediately checks the window.)

Qrow: What is it, Nebula?

Nebula: You should not be concerned. Accident ahead. My team will clear it.

(The scene cuts to the reason behind the halt. Two massive carts of stacked crates block the roadway. Qrow's allies move to heave them aside as Dew walks up to them.)

Dew: Make way for Qrow! Move!

(On the rooftops, Raven and Whitely spy on the proceedings, accompanied by the Branwen Tribe member Vernal and several Branwen Tribe members.)

Vernal: The soldiers are in position. We await your order.

Raven: It is given, dearest Vernal.

(Vernal sneaks off with several Branwen Tribe members in tow.)

Whitely: Stopping a carriage is nothing. Killing a murderer requires power. Power you have, Raven. And won't use.

Raven: It pains me to use it, Whitely. I need more time. My brother's excursion came too soon.

Whitely: The rain falls when it may.

Raven: No matter. I will have my victory if Leonardo does what I paid him to do.

(Back at the cart pile up, Theodore is easily moving the crates, while the others still struggle with the carts themselves.)

Gwen: Now! Do it!

(Others walk over to help. Inside the carriage, Qrow waits impatiently and silenty with Leonardo, who seems to be staring him down to pass the time. A shout outside the carriage attracts Qrow's attention, and he turns to see an entire Branwen Tribe warriors madly rushing down a back alley directly at his forces. Remnant civilians scatter at the rush, but Qrow's forces rush in to intercept them. At the same time, more of the Branwen Tribe rush in from an alley on the opposite side of the carriage, forcing the soldiers to divide up to fight them off. Seeing the army approach, Team NDGO, Theodore and the Happy Huntresses charge into the foray. Theodore ducks a blade swipe from one of them, lifts him up and viciously slams him backwards, snapping his spine, before throwing his corpse into another Branwen Tribe member. Fiona stabs a charging branwen tribe member in the face with her weapon, killing him instantly. She turns and blocks a swipe from another, before putting her weapon directly into the bandit's mouth and pulling the trigger. As that one falls dead, Fiona is tackled by a third. Two of Qrow's allies gang up to stab a bandit to death, while another bandit slashes a soldier across the chest with his blades, killing him. That bandit spots Octavia and charges her along with two more of his comrades. As they approach, Gwen draws her weapon, brutally stabbing the bandits to death before they can get in range of her. She pauses to take a breath, and as she does she spots even more bandits charging into the melee. Inside the carriage, Qrow watches all of this with barely contained fury. Leonardo strokes his beard.)

Leonardo: You said a mouthful...

(He reaches behind him and pulls out his weapon. He stabs downwards at Qrow, who blocks it with a forearm and punches Leonardo across the face. Leonardo tries another downward stab. Qrow catches his wrists and pushes Leonard's weapon away. Qrow pushes Leonardo down, and lays in several measured punches, before delivering a headbutt that fractures Leonardo's skull. Leonardo rallies and grabs Qrow by the shoulders. They struggle for a moment and Leonardo throws Qrow down. He tries to tackle the last Ozluminati with his strength, but Qrow dodges and grabs Leonardo with his hand, plunging his thumb directly into the Leonardo's eye. Leonardo screams in pain, but miraculously isn't blinded by the ordeal. Qrow kicks him away, grabs him and throws him into the carriage side. Leonardo destroys one of the carriage window frames with his face. He tries to fight back with a double axe-handle smash, but Qrow blocks it, punches him in the stomach twice, then grabs him and throws him to the other side of the carriage. This time, both Leonardo and Qrow crash through the carriage door to the outside. While on the ground, Qrow punches Leonardo repeatedly, but Leonardo catches his hand and throws Qrow aside. They both roll to their feet in fighting stances.

Qrow: You wound me, Leonardo.  Your offer of aid was but wind and air?!

Leonardo: Keep yer fifty million. Mileena's giving me twice that to take you out!

(They fight. While Leonardo's fighting strength has only grown in the years he's lived, Qrow's life experiences far outshine his. The last Ozluminati lives up to his title by beating Leonardo into the ground.)

Qrow: You're not worth the dirt on my shoe.

(As Leonardo tries to struggle back to his feet, Qrow pulls out his Harbinger. Pinning Leonardo to the ground with his boot, the huntsman plunges the weapon into Leonardo's back. He withdraws it and prepares to slit Leonardo's throat. Despite Leonardo trying to block the weapon, Qrow gradually overpowers him, but he is suddenly struck by an attack that knocks him to the ground. Vernal leaps gracefully from the carriage she perched on and lands on the ground. The two circle each other in fighting stances.)

Qrow: So you're my sister's trusted ally, Vernal.

Vernal: Glad you remember me, Qrow.

Qrow: I'll never forget those who are helping her and Salem.

Vernal: She once said, the weak die, the strong live.

Qrow: She's delusional.

Vernal: She saw the world as it truly is.

Qrow: That's why I must change it.

(They fight. Vernal's skills prove to be little match for the strength and power of the drunken huntsman. After a swift and fierce battle, Qrow leaves Vernal on the floor unconscious and beaten.)

Qrow: You are a fool to trust Raven.

(A bandit charges straight at Qrow following the battle. Qrow blocks a blade swipe, elbows the bandit in the stomach, sweeps his leg and knees him in the face, knocking him out. He grabs the arm of another bandit charging him, punches him in the side and face, then sweeps his legs with his arm, taking him down. As the huntsman searches the battle, he spots Raven on the rooftops.)

Qrow: She tasks me... for the last time.

(He turns into a crow and flies to the roof where Raven is. He approaches her, Whitely and the three bandits with them with Harbinger drawn for kombat.)

Qrow: Sister.

Raven: Leonardo was to kill you, miserable brother!

(The bandits charge at Qrow, one of them gets an arm sliced off for his efforts, followed by a slash through the heart. The second bandit leaps into the fray with a kick, but Qrow grabs his foot and and slices his leg off at the knee. As he drops, the final bandit rushes toward him, only to take several slashes from the Harbinger, dying when it is embedded into his torso, and then into the side of his head. Qrow snaps his neck with the last strike and kicks him away. Raven charges at him, screaming. She throws a spinkick that Qrow blocks, follows with several more kicks that are blocked or dodged, before landing a punch across his face. The huntsman replies with two face-punches of his own. Then, he slashes Raven with this weapon, and then looks over to Whitely.)

Qrow: Your sisters are arrogant too.

Whitely: Winter told me about you. Now I can see why she hates you.

Qrow: Does my sister suspect your true intentions?

Whitely: My intentions are to teach likes of you their place.

(They fight. In spite of being a Schnee, Whitely's arrogance gets the better of him in the fight with the determined Qrow Branwen, who's a pro huntsman, manages to see him through the melee. Eventually Whitely is left beaten on the ground by Qrow's hand.)

Qrow: That should silence you.

(As Whitely struggles to his knees, Joanna Greenleaf runs up to the drunken huntsman. Qrow gives a silent nod to Joanna, which is returned. Joanna walks up to Whitely.)

Joanna: You won't touch him again.

(But then someone shoots her hand, and Qrow turns to see Jacques Schnee.)

Jacques: You won't get away with this!

(Then a portal opens up and Raven pulls Qrow to it, and both get into the Emerald Forest.)

Raven: Ruby, Ozpin, and then the Happy Huntresses...

Qrow: What do you mean?

Raven: You just make mistakes. And now I shall correct you.

(They fight. As vicious and desperate of a fighter as Raven is, not even her magic and skill is a match for her brother and teammate known. After a brutal fight, Raven is knocked to the ground by the Qrow.)

Qrow: The only making mistakes is you.

(Raven gets up.)

Raven: It's not over yet. You will know your end. And I'll be there to witness your downfall.

(Raven leaves)

(Meanwhile at Vale, the Shinkengers and the Teen Titans finally arrive, only to see more Ayakashis)

(Back to Earth, Kamen Rider Decade is seen hanging out with Indigo until Kamen Rider Blade comes in.)

(To be continued)
