Chapter 2: New Monstie

Jaune was quietly working on something at his desk. Crocea Mors having been confiscated by his fa- no by his former family, he decided to create his own weapon.

He smiles, satisfied with his work. He picks up the blueprints, and goes to find Professor Peach. He knocks on the door. Almost as his knuckles leave the surface of the door, the door swings open.

"Ah! Hello Mr. Arc! Do you have the schematics?"

"Here, Professor."

He hands her the blueprints. She slams the door, and the sounds of drilling and hammering and several explosions, much to Jaune's concern. She emerges, her hair a crazy mess. She hands him the weapon, and slams the door again. Slipped in between the door is a scroll.

Jaune picks it up and walks away. The weapon wasn't as heavy as he expected. He carries it to his dorm, and rests it against his desk. He goes over to the newly installed stable. The Rathalos raises his head, blinking. Jaune goes up to him, and gently strokes his snout. Suddenly, a knock interrupts them. Jaune stops petting the wyvern's snout and opens the door. Ruby's standing there holding a large egg.

"Jaune! I found this egg! I wanted you to check it out!"

The Rathalos gets up, and walks over sniffing the egg. It judges the egg with its snout, and breathes a small cloud of embers onto the egg. Jaune picks it up, and places it in the straw in the Rathalos's pen. He covers it with a blanket.

"Let me get my Encyclopedia."

Awhile ago, after Jaune had his lost ancestry revealed, he went on a wild goose chase trying to find a book on monsters. He found one, but had to nearly use up all of his remaining lien to buy it. He took a job at Tucson's Book Trade, where he bought the book, and was given a good pay. He pulls it form his shelf, and opens it up. He turns a few pages, and runs his index finger down the page, before stopping at one egg.

"Found it!"

Ruby comes over. Jaune's Rathalos walks over to. They stare over his shoulder. Ruby tilts her head in confusion.

"Glavenus? What's it like?"

The picture of the creature itself was on the other page.

"Woah! That looks so cool!"

"But this egg is bigger than usual. Perhaps it contains twins?"

"That would be even cooler!"

A dim glow comes from Ruby's pocket. She gasps an dives her hand into it. It was a Kinship Stone, only different.

"I forgot! I also found this near the egg!"

"It's a Kinship Stone!"

"Yeah! I thought so!"

"Follow me."

He gets up, grabs his new weapon, and signals to the Rathalos.

"C'mon, Blast, let's go."

"Blast? Cool name!"

"He picked it. But yeah, it's cool."

They mount Blast, and the back wall opens up, and a short runway extends. Blast takes off running, spreading his wings. He beats them once, twice, before beating them for a third time and taking off. They glide, before diving towards the forest. They bank right, and glide down to a waterfall. Ruby dismounts. Jaune dismounts soon after, walking next to her.

"Hey are we here?"

"This is apparently a Sacred Waterfall. This used to be in a cave, but many years of erosion has worn away the rock around it, and now it's like this. Here, Riders would "cleanse" their stones, and unleash their true power."

"Cool!"

"I know, right?"

"So what do I do?"

"You shove it into the waterfall."

Ruby walks over to the chute. She carefully puts her right hand into the water. A momentary pause, before the stone lights up. Rosy red light cascades everywhere. Ruby's eyes sparkle. And as soon as it starts, the light shuts off. Ruby stares at her Kinship stone. She tubes around and waves excitedly.

"Jaune! Did you see that?! Wasn't that cool?!"

"Yeah! My stone reacted similarly. Let's head back!"

Ruby rushes back over, and the two mount Blast, taking off and flying back to Beacon. They land back in Jaune's room. They dismount and guide Balst to his stable. The two then glance at the egg. They reach out and touch. As soon as they do, a bright flash comes from their Kisnhips stones. The egg begins to crack and shake. And it shatters.

"Oh my Oum, they're so cute!"

The larger one, who is already standing up, walks over to Jaune and gently nuzzles into his stomach region, purring. The smaller one struggle slightly, but it stumbles towards Ruby. It chirps and jumps into her arms, nuzzling into her neck. She starts to squeal.

"So cute! I'm gonna hug your so much!"

"Careful. You're scaring her."

"How can you tell?"

"You see that her scales are a more scarlet color? And her tail is slightly wider and longer? Females use the coloration to attract mates, and they have much larger territories than the male, so they need to defend it. What will you call her?"

"Scarlet! Do you like that name?"

The newly named Scarlet nods in response. Ruby hugs her again. She makes little cooing noises. The baby Glavenus peeps in response. Jaune turns to his Glavenus, who is staring at him intently. He scratches him behind his left horn.

"How about... Blade."

The young Glavenus tail thumps agiant the ground in approval. Jaune's smiles, stroking Blade's back with his right hand. He stands up and puts Blade down in the pile of hay where the egg from which he had hatched from had once rested. Blade yawns and closes his eyes. Scarlet riggles our form Ruby's arms and trots over to her brother. She curls up against his larger body and falls asleep.

"Aww, they look so cute together!"

"Yeah. Do you mind if Scarlets stays here for awhile? We're still working on the larger stables. But she also needs to spend time with her brother. While they start our smaller than the males at birth, they grow bigger than them as they age. But the males spend most of their time as youngsters defending their sisters. It's pretty cute."

"Cool."

The two remain in silence for awhile. But a concerned look crosses her face. She turns to face Jaune.

"Jaune... do you regret faking your transcripts?"

Jaune hesitates, before answering.

"I wanted to be like the rest of my family. Heroes. Saviors. People would look up to my great grandfather as a hero, because he fought and one so many battles during the Great War. But I was skinny, could barely pick up a sword and would hide behind my older sisters."

"Oh."

"So I took the families heirloom, Crocea Mors, and came to Beacon. The rest... is history. But no, I don't ever regret faking them. Otherwise, I would have never met Pyrrha, Lie, Nora, You, Yang, Weiss, Blake, and everyone else. I also would have never met Blast or Blade. And you would have never met Scarlet."

Ruby smiles, and hugs him. He blushes. Ruby gets up and walks to the door. She opens it and waves goodbye. She closes the door, and walks to her dorm, not noticing a certain red head disappearing around the corner, who had tears streaming her face. Blast, in the room looks at Jaune like this.

"I'm fine big guy. Just... need to sleep."

Jaune goes over and gets ready for bed. He watches as Blast curls around Blade and Scarlet. He smiles to himself, before lying on his back. He stares up at the ceiling, remembering his former sisters. A single tear crawls down his face. He remembers what his older sister, Arelis, said to him.

"I would never be the sister of some weak pathetic liar."

He rests his forearm over his eyes, more tears following the first. But something soon crawls on top of him. It's Blade, gently curling up on his stomach. It lets out a sad purr. Jaune sniffs, before pulling Blade closer.

"It's okay. Your my family now."

The hatchling peeps happily. And Jaune gently falls asleep, with Blade curled up on his stomach, snoring quietly, and as peaceful as they could be.
