What's wrong with me?
"Babes, there's a text on the group chat that there's an after party at Virat's."
"Oh really? Celebration for the Australia tour" I ask, finishing up my second coating of applying nail polish. It had been 2 years since we had gotten married already and by now I had gotten used to going to cricket matches, post match celebrations, handling the noise of fans, the paparazzi and being Mrs Bumrah overall.
"But I have nothing to wear!"
Jasprit looks at her speechless. "Didn't you just go shopping with Anushka and Ritika like last week?"
"Yeah. Last week. I'm gonna text the girls and see if they'll come with me. Or you could come?" I look at Jasprit.
"No no, it's okay. Ask the girls. Main thik hoon." He laughs hesistantly.
I chuckle. I always knew he hated going shopping. But hey, it's not my fault we spend 2 hours in one shop?!
"Actually I'll just order online, I feel weirdly tired
💗
"That was so much fun, wasn't it!" I say to Jasprit as he drives home.
"I can't stop laughing at that little video put together of us."
"My God, you all looked so different in that video. Your hair was on a whole other level." I tease him.
"Well now I have a personal stylist don't I?" Jas laughs.
"Ouch!" I cry, grabbing the car door handle as we go over a speed bump.
"Hey, You okay?" Jas quickly pulls over the car and places a hand on my thigh, giving it a small stroke.
"Yeah..." I say blinking, trying to make sense of the sharp pain in my lower half.
"Anyway." I say, diverting the topic. "Where were we?"
💗
"Hardik's outfit looked like he's trying to be a Ranveer Singh wannabe." Jas laughs, talking about the party we just went to.
I nod without saying anything. Somehow something doesn't feel right with my body.
"And his new car! Already has dents on it. I can't believe that boy. If that was me..." he trails off as he notices me sitting quiet on the side of the bed, staring into space with furrowed eyebrows.
"Shanaya?" He asks. I don't respond.
"Earth to Shanaya?!" He waves at me, with a smile.
"Mm?" I say, blinking.
"Oh by the way, I got a message from Ravi Bhai that...."
Before he could finish, I rush into the bathroom and throw up in the toilet.
Jas rushes over and stands in the doorway. To my surprise he is laughing.
"Hangover kehte hai isse." He tosses me a towel as I just stare at him, seeing him all blurry.
He goes back to his work on the laptop.
"I didn't have anything." I say with a croaky voice.
Jas chuckles. "You're too tired to remember anything, anyways let's sleep now."
He helps me up onto my feet after I clean myself and tucks me in.
"A great first experience." He clasps my hand and laughs.
"Jas I'm telling you I didn't even touch a glass."
"Okay, go to sleep now babes." He runs a hand across my forehead.
💗
I wake up with a heavy head and a feeling of something trapped in the back of my throat. I can barely move my limbs and stand up without seeing things all blurry. I feel like I'm going to be sick again. Before I throw up all over Jas who is sleeping next to me, I run to the bathroom and puke, not even reaching the toilet. What a mess.
Fuck." I mutter, breathing heavily as I collapse on the bathroom floor, feeling heat circulating across my cheeks and feeling my lungs deflating. A weird tightness forms in my diaghpram.
"Shanaya!" Jas quickly rushes over to me and carries me back to the bed, tucking me in again like last night.
"Oh no, what's wrong with you?" He mumbles to himself worriedly. "Maybe we should go and see the doctor."
"I think it's just food poisoning." I say, staring at the ceiling.
"I don't want to take any risks."
"But..."
"Shanaya. We're going to the doctor and that's final." He picks up his phone to call the doctor. "Actually - he's coming to us."
"You really don't need to c..."
"Now are you going to teach me whom to call and when?" He says angrily.
"Sorry." I say with a hurt tone, lowering my eyes.
Jas runs a hand through his hair. "I'm just worried." He says, stroking my cheek.
"Jas you have practice."
"I'll call Ravi Bhai and tell him I'm not coming."
"Jas please! You don't need to..."
Jas gives me a look that immediately tells me when to stop being insistent. I stop talking and continue drinking my water.
Soon the doctor arrives and I sit up.
"It's okay, just relax" he says as he begins preparing a needle. "We'll just do a few tests."
"What?!" I look at Jas like a child and shake my head in fear.
"Jas I don't want an injection."
"Shanu, it's just a blood test. It takes one minute." Jas talks to me like a baby, rubbing a hand across my back and then holds my hand firmly in place for the doctor to do it.
I try and wriggle it out of his grip but he keeps holding it tightly. He knew how much I hated needles and doctors.
I close my eyes tightly and rest my head against Jas's shoulder who sits next to me.
"All done, ma'am." The doctor says, wiping the blood.
"We'll get back to you about the results this afternoon sir." He shakes Jas's hand and leaves.
"Right." Jas sighs. He's obviously concerned.
"Jas, please go to practice now. You're only an hour into it. Don't miss it all, please I beg you." I say.
"Okay." He gives up arguing with me. "If you feel ill again or need something just ring."
