Chapter 5 ~ Killed for Condition

(Y/n) didn't know how else to describe Jasper's face apart from shocked. It wasn't every day that you met a random magic human who seemed to know the deepest parts that you made it certain no one knew about, and yet, for Jasper, this just occurred.

And she wasn't sure of what to do. She was taught to never let an enemy find a weakness and was taught on how to deal with powerful threats, but never, had she been told how defeat an opponent who found a weakness of mentality. She couldn't recall a single gem on Homeworld who had experienced something similar to her, but this wasn't Homeworld anymore and those were times before the Gem War. Now, Jasper didn't know what to do.

So, for once, instead of using muscle, she began to ask questions.

She snapped out of her surprised state as she waited, for once, patiently for (Y/n) to stand up. "What do you mean...human?" she grunted.

"(Y/n), that's my name and you better get used to it." Jasper rolled her eyes.

"I don't have time for this- tell me what you mean!" she yelled, causing (Y/n) to jump.

"I mean... I know what you did...or...at least pieces of it, and I know that this-" (Y/n) raised a hand and pointed to her nose, Jasper's eyes widening in disbelief. "I know what's inside."

Jasper couldn't recall many times when she was silent and this had to be one of the first in a while. But the feeling was very familiar. Like...that time, with the Diamonds.

It had been a while since that event and Jasper could never forgive herself for what had happened. She was silent then too, for the first time in her thousands of years of living. She felt smaller, and less important than she usually did, and it felt strange. But why was she feeling this way NOW? She didn't feel smaller compared to the human, so called "(Y/n)" but she felt that she was important. Had she gained a sudden respect for her? It made sense, she DID respect the diamonds and that was the only link she could make between the two events.

(Y/n) knew bits and pieces apparently, she knew what had been hidden for thousands of years and yet she wanted to help her? She couldn't have been joking, a life and death situation like that, she couldn't possibly have been fibbing when she knew there was no way out.

But nothing was clear, so she continued to ask more questions.

No, more questions lead to stalling and the eventual escape of the girl. Jasper was done hearing about things that shouldn't have been known, she was done. And she decided that she was going to end it then. Jasper looked at the human furiously, probably deciding where she wanted to attack first, but (Y/n) held her stance and dared to look the orange gem in the eye.

"I know." She began slowly, stretching the words out as much as she could. "I know that you don't ACTUALLY want to kill me."

Jasper laughed, "Out of everything you humans say, you tell me that you believe I DON'T want to kill you?" she laughed some more, (Y/n) watching tensely.

"It's true... you're mad, you're letting your better judgment be clouded by your anger." Jasper stopped her maniacal laughter to glare.

"And....what would I be mad about?" she grit her teeth.

"Pink Diamond." (Y/n) answered confidently, feeling the grip around her shirt loosen as Jasper dropped her to the ground with a thud in surprise.

"What."

"I...know that you feel upset, and it's okay-"

"Puny human, so stupid, I'm not upset and I have no care for Pink Diamond." Jasper's expression relaxed slightly, giving somewhat hope for (Y/n) to survive.

So (Y/n) did what she could.

Closing her eyes, she allowed the darkness to turn into a bright one, inside Jaspers mind and seeing what the gem had seen in the past.

"My Diamond."(Y/n) found herself saying, although she wasn't exactly (Y/n). Looking at her body, (Y/n) discovered that she was in Jasper's body, seeing what she was seeing, feeling what she was feeling, understanding the true reason for the pain behind the muscle.

The room was giant, much bigger than any palace in a fairy-tale and yet, it was empty. Everything was tinted yellow, from the floor to the ceiling, so bright that it almost hurt to look. It looked like a throne room, of course without a thrown and to the side stood a Yellow tinted gem.

A Pearl, probably a servant with a yellow-cream pearl resting in the middle of her chest, a yellow leotard with large yellow tufts flowing from the sleeves with high yellow socks to match. Yellow slippers were on her feet and her hair was pointing upwards, defying gravity without a damn.

"Pearl, who is this?" an elegant voice boomed, much louder than any other gem heard before.

"It's Pink Diamond's most trusted Jasper warrior, my Diamond." The Pearl said, her voice high and nasally and somewhat annoying to hear continuously. How could a Diamond stand that?! The question of the Pearl's voice didn't matter, (Y/n) found Jasper, her body, walking past the Pearl, pushing her to the side with a nudge of the shoulder carelessly.

Yellow Diamond stood, tall and proud and oh so much bigger than herself, and that's when she realised that she had been silent. Quiet, for the first time in her life since she had broken free from the Earth's crust, awaiting for her newly appointed Diamond to speak.

"Jasper? From the Beta Kindergarten on Earth?" Yellow Diamond inquired, eyes piercing into her body.

"Yes... my Diamond." (Y/n) found Jasper saluting the gem, arms and hands bent into the Diamond salute.

"And what, do I owe the pleasure of such a noble warrior?" the question was short and somewhat happy, indicating that Jasper had been a favourite of not only her original but other Diamond's alike. But Jasper didn't speak. She was quiet for some time, probably thinking about some very important question.

"I was wondering," She finally began.

"Wondering is for Sapphires, not Jaspers...you want to ask." Yellow Diamond corrected her.

"Yes...my Diamond, I had to ask...ever since... that day-"

"Which day do you speak of?" Yellow Diamond sighed.

"The day Pink Diamond-"

"Yes?" the Diamond interrupted impatiently, throwing Jasper off guard. She was in dangerous waters, a slight slip up and she would be sent away to be shattered. Jasper drew a deep breath.

"I heard that a memorial is to be made by a few of her Bismuths..." Jasper droned out.

"Yes, that is indeed correct." Yellow Diamond replied.

"Well...I was wondering- THINKING! That, I could, with your permission, my Diamond, help the bismuths with construction... her being my original Diamond and all." (Y/n) was surprised to see such a vulnerable side to Jasper, the way she talked and moved with so much care into what she did, she was an entirely different gem in front of her boss.

(Y/n) didn't know what to expect but felt a pang of sadness as Yellow Diamond laughed at now HER most trusted warrior. The idea seeming to be a joke to her as she laughed some more. "Jasper, do you hear yourself? You, a Jasper, want to help CONSTRUCT. You are a Jasper, not a Bismuth who builds or a Sapphire who thinks, you are a warrior, one of the best there is so I expect that you start acting it!" That instantly shut Jasper from saying whatever she wanted to say.

It was true, she was a Jasper, not a Bismuth, or a Sapphire or even a Lapis Lazuli, whatever they did, she didn't care. While they flew around with their little water wings, doing their Diamond's bidding, Jasper was left without one.

All the other gems moved on easily, but why was it so that she couldn't? She frowned as she bowed to Yellow Diamond, forever would she address the gem as "my" but forever would she never mean it.

She left the room, knowing fully well what she wanted, HAD to do. The most secured room in Homeworld, access granted only to those who were worthy, Jasper being one of those gems. Inside was what she knew was in the wrong place, her Diamond.

On a normal occasion, Jasper would never have done what she did next, but this was no normal occasion, this wasn't predicted by the Sapphires and this wasn't what was meant to happen. Hatred. Jasper was familiar with the emotion but now it was stronger. She hated the gem who did the unthinkable. She hated the Rose Quartz and wanted her gem shattered and displayed like a prize.

But that would have to wait.

(Y/n) felt the body she was within move, stealthily sneaking past the two Amethyst guards who, like usual, were slacking off of their jobs. (Y/n) felt eyes roll as Jasper's body hid in darkness, slipping past the two idiotic gems that were competing in a breath holding competition, something of which would never end seeing as gems don't need to breathe.

But Jasper left them alone, for once, their stupid game would come as an asset to her mission. It didn't take very long, everything happened so quickly that she didn't get the chance to doubt if what she was doing was right. Of course it wasn't, she would be shattered if she were caught but she made sure that wouldn't happen.

The room was dark. Jasper's breathing had stopped completely, not that it affected her but it stopped. The middle of the room was the only area that was alight. A pink, soft, glow rested, a sphere of bright pink light, floating within the middle of the air.

A bubble, a single pink bubble was all there was, probably a Rose Quart's bubble, significant and special, usually only the mightiest gems were placed in such tombs. The bubble being a sign for a healthy life, seeing as Rose Quartz had the power to heal although (Y/n) already knew that.

Inside the bubble rested three shining objects, a diamond. Pink and pristine, separated almost perfectly into three. Jasper looked at the bubble that protected the gem. It was ironic, for Pink Diamond to be encased in a bubble made by the same type of gem that killed her, Jasper didn't like it at all. She knew what had to be done and she knew how long she had.

No one ever knew it was her.

As soon as she grasped the bubble, the last Rose Quartz bubble was popped. All  had seemingly disappeared as soon as the crime was commit, all the Rose Quartz vanished, one by one, poofed and stored away in the soon to be memorial that would forever be incomplete.

Jasper produced the shards of another shattered gem, one that had caused her heart to stop beating, believing very well that it was her Diamond. It wasn't, it was another Rose Quartz and Jasper had kept it within her gem all this time.

She knew that she had to have a backup plan, and it was probably just as cruel as Yellow Diamond. To replace, the Pink Diamond with the same type of gem that killed her, no one would know though, it would be Jasper's own secret success.

The gems were swapped, the Pink Diamond carefully stored within her gem and the Rose Quartz left on the ground, triggering the alarm. Jasper ran, using the special Quartz dash ability all quartz had available.

Amethysts stumbled in from every direction, gasping and panicking at the fallen gem, rushing away to alert the nearest Pearl. Jasper raced around the corner, shaking violently had what she had done. She would have to live with that forever, and forever was a long time. But the selfishness of never being allowed to help build the memorial, that was far worse than what she did in her opinion.

(Y/n) felt Jasper's emotion change rather rapidly, calm and tense at the same time as a blue tinted pearl with short hair and long bangs covering her eyes appeared. "Jasper." Her voice was rather light and airy fairy, confusing Jasper as to how on Homeworld the Diamonds kept gems with such annoying voices around.

But Jasper rolled her eyes, just as usual, before folding her arms, as if nothing previously happened before. "What it's it Pearl?"

"Yellow Diamond had requested to speak with you- my Diamond has arrived for your mission, what is all the noise with the Amethysts?"

"No idea shiny thing, move aside so I may talk with the Diamonds." Jasper shoved the Pearl aside as if she were a ragdoll, entering the bright yellow tinted room to see the two giant Diamonds, a blue one beside the yellow. They watched her, turning their full attention patiently towards her, Blue Diamond beckoning her forwards.

"Jasper, thank you for coming on such short notice." Yellow Diamond spoke.

"Of course, my Diamonds." Jasper bowed and saluted the two.

"Yes, we have a mission we would like you to be a part of, it's fairly simple and should be of...some emotional use to you." Blue Diamond said slowly.

"Of course. What is my task and where must I go?"

Yellow Diamond clapped her hands on cue as a figure from behind her stepped forwards. (Y/n)'s eyes widened as she recognised Peridot, tall, menacing and scary in all her green glory, nothing like the small space dorito she knew.

Peridot's metallic limg enhancers clanked against the hard floor.

"You are to escort Peridot Facet 2F5L Cut 5XG to Earth, where she must perform her task of checking on the cluster and writing a report, return to Homeworld and await for your next assignment." Yellow Diamond said, escorting Blue Diamond, Jasper, Peridot, (Y/n) and herself to another room on the far left. A Yellow hand, the vessel being used to travel, the door slid open, awaiting the two.

"Of course, my Diamonds." Jasper bowed once more before allowing Peridot to enter the ship, pausing abruptly before stepping onto the levitating platform away from the entrance.

Footsteps, fast and bare echoed as they quickened in pace. "MY DIAMOND, MY DIAMOND!" two voices chorused, Jasper groaned. If one Pearl was bad, the both together screeching like dying birds was way worse.

"Pearls." Blue Diamond acknowledged their presence. "Explain." That one word got the two of them yelling.

"PINK DIAMOND'S GEM HAS BEEN FOUND UNBUBBLED AND ON THE FLOOR!" they screeched.

"What." Yellow Diamond demanded.

"It was bound to happen, why did we let a Rose Quartz bubble her?" Yellow Pearl piped up.

"We should just shatter them all." Yellow Diamond agreed with her Pearl, earning a pleased grin from her servant.

"No." Blue Diamond said forcefully, "They were all hers."

"Then we shall bubble her with another Gem's bubble." Blue Pearl said.

"Yes, that seems suitable for this situation." Blue Diamond spoke, her servant smiling teasingly at the other, earning annoyed looks.

Jasper watched the scene unfold, "Shall I help? My Diamonds?" She suggested. Blue and Yellow Diamond looked at the warrior.

"No Jasper, it was a faulty bubble, just get to your mission with the Peridot assigned to you, it shouldn't take long and if there are any complications, immediately contact us." Jasper nodded before shutting the vessel's door, exploring the ship before finding her partner.

"Stupid yellow clodding colour, let's make it green, once we are in visible range with the Earth's stratosphere, the galaxies can keep their jealous cloddy faces as they stare at the most incredibly smart Peridot there ever was!" Jasper stared as (Y/n) laughed, typical Peridot and her strange green obsession. Jasper coughed as a sign to gain the other gem's attention, catching her off guard and causing her to turn around. "Jasper." Peridot stated, floating digits  at her side, acknowledging the other gem.

"You don't have anything better to do?" Jasper grunted, eyeing the controls, "Apart from changing the colour from yellow to green?"

"I'm a certified-"

"Kindergartener and technician who has easy access to controlling the ship- I'm not stupid, all you Peri-idiots say the same thing...is it some Peridot thing? To prove you can do stuff without fail? Cause failure is just what you seemed to be made of." Jasper looked the other gem up and down judgmentally, causing her to go silent.

Her face turned cold and hard, emotion wiping off  as easily as dirt. She turned her body to face the monitor before her, whatever she was thinking, (Y/n) knew deep down it was hurt, even if she didn't show it.

(Y/n) could recall all the times Peridot had gone on long tangents about how she was happy to be on Earth- Now (Y/n) finally understood. Here, she was different, there were no other Peridots and even if a kindergartener was a common job to all Peridots, on Earth, she was the only one. And (Y/n) was certain that Peridot loved it. She wasn't a "per-idiot" and no one was going to make an offense to her name. Peridot. That was hers. No one else was Peridot and there were no others from Homeworld, she was unique.

(Y/n) looked at the stiff as board expression Peridot had, floating fingers forming a couple of screens and doing their own thing on their own accord. "Nearing Earth: 2.664 hours remaining." Her voice was robotic and monotone, flat and boring as a Peridot's was supposed to be.

(Y/n) had enough, she'd seen enough. And finally, she knew what to do.

Eyes closed, the world began to change back into reality.

Jasper was still there, it was as if time had stood still and awaited (Y/n)'s return. (Y/n) looked at the gem in front of her knowingly. "You care for Pink Diamond." (Y/n) said boldly. "Don't deny it, I've seen what you've seen and felt how you felt, I've been inside your mind and I KNOW you care."

"Is this some joke?" Jasper began to fume.

"No." (Y/n) said confidently, standing up from the ground at which she couldn't remember sitting upon. "You DO care, and I know you wanted to help with her memorial... but they wouldn't let you...would they?" Jasper went silent. "Homeworld wouldn't permit a Jasper to build, because that's not her job, even though you wanted to and yet, you staged a robbery and took Pink Diamond...You have her gem." (Y/n) said "And that's why the Crystal Gems left, to help let at least one planet have free will."

"Don't get me involved with that Crystal Crap, you and your mind games are not going to go unpunished."

"Fine, kill me." Jasper hesitated in surprise.

"What. Is this another of your human hybrid jokes?"

"No...go ahead and kill me." (Y/n) repeated. "Either way, now or after you build the memorial, you are permitted to kill me, but on the condition that you build the memorial with the help of the Crystal Gems, no harm will come to you, during the memorial or after I die, but that's the deal, okay?"

"And why should I trust you?" Jasper growled.

"We are the only ones who can give you a chance to do what you want willingly." She simply replied. Jasper thought silently, (Y/n) allowing her to think and give her some privacy.

"How do you know...about this?" she frowned.

"I'm psychic...a power from my gem heritage."

"Psychic? What an abomination of a creation you are." Jasper said with disgust.

"Thanks..." (Y/n) muttered as Jasper squinted her eyes, "So, will you take my proposition?" Jasper fell silent, the third time in her life to do so. Constantly she opened her mouth to spill hatred and constantly she closed it before she said a noise. And then, with a snobbish glare, she opened her mouth, confident and snobbishly, to reply.

"Fine, I'll join you." She seemed to have struggled to say the words, contemplating to follow (Y/n) to the traitorous gems. (Y/n) didn't say anything, as Jasper sighed and nodded begrudgingly, "Let's go and hurry up...so we can get straight to your demise." (Y/n) nodded, smiling hopefully at the act Jasper placed on display to seem tough. She was acting, trying to hide the real emotion of excitement, (Y/n) knew it. But she held her breath and decided not to say a thing. Jasper's face was still tense, holding a menacing glare with a menacing stomp of the foot, following (Y/n) as if it were against her will like a slave and she didn't actually care about anything.

But deep down, (Y/n) knew, that Jasper did care.
