Chapter 4 ~ Revenge is Best Served Happily

(Y/n)'s mouth opened, preparing herself to answer the forced question. However, to her surprise, no words seemed to fall out. It was strange, the giant gem stood over her and watched, lips moving with no sound, as if it were straight out of a movie.

In fact, (Y/n) could recall all the times she'd watch films with Lapis or Peridot, the only two who didn't seem to mind or have any knowledge of what a "classification" was. Their home, the barn, was filled with movies galore, a great number of movies dedicated to any genre possible. Ratings "G" to "R 18+". It was hard to get bored whenever she was staying with the two, but she did often wonder where all the films had come from. "We have our ways." Peridot smugly replied before summoning a DVD case with a tiny magnet taped to the back.

(Y/n) had helped Lapis and the green gem in doing so with practically every object there was so that Peridot could easily use her ferrokinesis. It was clever, but definitely time consuming and worth it in the end.

Yet the fun moments she shared with the two movie enthusiasts were not important at the current time, (Y/n) could only concluded that the fear she felt corresponded to what a character in a horror movie would feel. She actually finally understood the whole "to scared to speak" and the whole, "frozen in spot" cliché and made a mental note to explain the situation to the others if she made it out alive.

Which brings us to the situation at hand.

Jasper was waiting for an answer, and she was growing impatient. Quickly. "WELL!?" She demanded harshly, clenching her fist in a threatening sort of stance. (Y/n) gulped before attempting to speak once more.

"I..um...i-im (Y/n)...i-I'm a human, l-like you said and the reason – um, that you shouldn't kill me is... is um..." her voice trailed off as she looked at the warrior. She stared at the gem in the middle of her face before deciding to explore the gem's mind.

It was filled with thoughts, different and strange. A part of the gem was mad and that made her better judgment seem foggy, a small segment was focusing on Pink Diamond and there already were some plans for attack. But a seemingly larger amount of her mind was taken up by Rose Quartz. Not exactly being used at that moment, but a large space was certainly saved for a seemingly important topic.

Questions, she wanted to know about Rose Quartz and the more (Y/n) saw into her mind, the more she found out about Jasper, fear turning to empathy.

(Y/n) sighed and collected her bearings, straightening her composure to finish her answer. "And the reason, you shouldn't kill me, is because I have information about Rose Quartz that you want to know. I have the answers to your questions." The path (Y/n) had chosen felt right, it felt like this was the path to take in order to succeed, and according to the tingly feeling in the back of her mind, Rose Quartz had agreed.

Jasper looked at (Y/n) in disbelief, "You?" she asked, "You know about Rose Quartz." It wasn't a question, it was a statement. (Y/n) nodded her head.

"I-I do!" She stuttered once more, confidence draining away.

"Well?" Jasper demanded, staring at (Y/n), "Where is she then? Where is the all so great leader of the Crystal Gems, Rose Quartz?"

(Y/n) looked at Jasper. She was big, buff and definitely capable of snapped her neck in two like a matchstick. There was no backing out now or lying, Jasper had that sort of aura that just screamed "I know when you lie" and to be honest, (Y/n) didn't feel like testing her waters. "Well, about Rose...I have some news to tell you."

"Go on." Jasper grit her teeth frustrated.

"You see...Rose Quartz...um...she doesn't exist anymore."(Y/n) began.

"Doesn't exist?" Jasper laughed, "How could one of the most brutal murderers be shattered?!" she pointed a finger at the girl accusingly.

"Well...she isn't exactly shattered..." (Y/n) trailed on, "You see, 34 years ago, she met a human and had a child with him... like humans reproduce...so in result, she turned into half of the human who now has her gem and no memory. He is an entirely different person, so as such, Rose Quartz is gone." Jasper squinted her eyes as she processed the story she was told.

"That disrespectful form she had was a human hybrid?" Jasper spat in disgust. "That can only explain so much." She muttered under her breath darkly. "But that doesn't explain one thing." She began, glaring at the girl. If looks could have killed, (Y/n) would have died and burnt in the 666th layer of hell.

"And...what would that be?" (Y/n) asked fearfully.

"How do you know this?" Jasper spat.

"Well...the kid that Rose Quartz had? Yeah um...he's my dad... I'm the grand-daughter of Rose Quartz...(Y/n) Universe... you may have heard of...Steven? Universe?" the name was like a gun trigger that was set off. Jasper's immediate reaction was horrific, reaching out to snatch the child like a rag doll but missing as (Y/n) dodged the attack.

"THAT'S ROSE QUARTZ!" She screeched, smashing her fist into the sand.

"No! He's not! He has no memories of who Rose Quartz is! He's related to her sure, but he's not her!" Jasper paused, studying (Y/n)'s attempts at mercy. Confused, the girl stared curiously at Jasper, tapping into her mind for a second to see what was waiting in store.

Run.

As predicted, a fist made contact with sand, signalling for her to get out of there. So she ran, the giant gem hot on her heels. Of course, being much smaller than the other was a disadvantage, but so was breathing and energy. There was no way she'd keep up the pace forever and even with her abilities, predicting where Jasper went and how she tried to strike barely meant anything if she physically wasn't strong enough to out run the enemy.

(Y/n) was beginning to run out of breath, panting like a lost dog and pumping her legs beyond aching, she felt as if she was on fire, and not in the good sense. She didn't bother to turn back to see if the Crystal Gem's were trying to help, she knew they stayed hidden, conserving the element of surprise for the right moment, whenever that was, probably just before she died, unless Garnet's future vision said otherwise but the bottom line was, they knew what they were doing. Logic rules over desire, that was a rule that everyone had agreed upon when (Y/n) first came into existence, and that was what it always would be.

Run (Y/n) run! (Y/n) thought, her pace slowing down as Jasper outstretched a giant hand. Don't look back, don't look back, just don't do it! She kept her eyes straight in front of her, lungs screaming for air as she heaved.

"GET BACK HERE!" Jasper yelled, "IF ROSE QUARTZ DOESN'T EXIST, I'M GOING TO HAVE THE NEXT BEST THING!" (Y/n) didn't need Jasper to tell her that the next best thing was her, it was pretty obvious by the fact that she was being chased and not her father, then and again, Jasper didn't know that the others had been hiding so close by.

Did (Y/n) still feel that healing Jasper was a good idea? Well, she was happy that she wasn't corrupted and disgusting, but she wouldn't have minded if the life or death version of Tag could have been avoided. (Y/n) swallowed a gust of air, "I HELPED YOU!" she begged in a desperate attempt to stop the gem. "I HEALED YOUR CORRUPTION!"

It wasn't certain if Jasper heard everything she yelled but she definitely heard bits and pieces of it. "YOU ARE A DECENDANT TO ROSE QUARTZ! I'LL KILL ALL OF YOU, STARTING WITH YOU!" By then, their running was getting sloppy and the beach was running out of space to run, (Y/n) was going to get caught.

(Y/n) could feel Jasper's non existing breath on her neck before her small, tired body gave way and collapsed to the floor, her chest rising and falling so quickly that it began to hurt, several stitches starting to cramp at her stomach and (Y/n) knew that Jasper was wearing a shit-eating grin. She felt the ground shake around her as Jasper's footsteps slowly approached her limp body in the sand. A shadow, much bigger than any gem or human's loomed over her, shrouding the sky from view.

It was probably the first time since she had met the gem that she realised how much more vulnerable and weaker in comparison she was. And it scared her, usually she'd have at least Connie or Pumpkin to protect her, and Pumpkin was literally a dog made out of pumpkin! To say the least, Pumpkin was NOT there and neither was her mother, she was rather left to herself for some abnormally strange reason. Where was Garnet? Shouldn't she foresee the inevitable outcome?

(Y/n) felt her head dizzy and spin as she was quickly pulled away from the ground by her shirt. (Y/n) wasn't bothered to think about why she was wearing a shirt over her swimsuit all of a sudden, the shirt was there and it was probably going to stay. Somewhere between explaining the Rose Quartz stuff to her family and stealing Jasper away (Y/n) hypothesised that it happened and yet she wasn't sure if she should be happy that she managed to phase on a shirt or cry at the fact that death was just around the corner. She chose neither and held the best fearless face she could.

"Now." Jasper said, the grin on her face transforming into a rather creepy devilish smile, one that (Y/n) thought looked like "Bruce the Shark" from "Finding Nemo", not that she was scared of the 3D animated shark, but that Jasper looked like a creepy fish, if you could classify sharks as fish. (Y/n) was certain Pearl was going to tell her off about the lesson she had taught being wasted. "Are you serious (Y/n)? We've been over this before!" she could imagine Pearl's face and that was probably the reason she struggled to hide a smile.

(Y/n) returned her attention to Jasper, who brought her face uncomfortably close to hers. "Since humans, especially like you, have so many things that they like to say for no particular reason, I shall be gracious enough to ask, do you have any last words?" (Y/n) knew this was her last breath and she knew she better make it memorable.

If she was lucky enough, (Y/n) plotted for this to be her chance to talk her way out of the predicament she was in. Racking her brain in search for something to buy her time, (Y/n) began to blab the random words of a cliché horror movie victim.

"I want...one thing." This sentence interested Jasper greatly, causing the gem to laugh. There was no way she was going to do whatever a human wanted, even if it was a last wish. But Jasper brutally played along.

"And what may that be?" her dark voice asked.

"I want you to be happy." (Y/n)'s mind was busy, busy searching for answers inside of Jasper's mind. "I want you, to go with my family and friends and I want you to create what you've always wanted."

"Stop talking." Jasper muttered darkly.

"I want you to create the memorial for Pink Diamond." (Y/n) said, "I want you to be happy."
