001
You're gonna notice that this chapter is a lot longer than the regular chaps in Reset. In fact, most of the chaps in this book are gonna be fairly long (average of 4.6K for those that I've written so far, reaching to a max of 6.1K hehe) The prologue might've hinted to that anyway since it was really long yet it's usually the shortest part of the book.
Enjoy haha 💜✨
K.A.S.A. A huge agency consisting of several branches throughout the country which worked against criminals that were beyond the local police's capacity.
It had been set up some fifty years ago, gathering more agents and garnering much success over time compared to when it had been founded.
The Korean Anti-criminal Secret Agency didn't operate like any other average agency, and maybe that was one of the main reasons behind its success. Instead of recruiting its members from the police force or the military, the members were either children of previous agents or orphaned children who had been found during missions, taken from the streets.
These children were trained since a very young age. Most of them could wield weapons and perfectly shoot a bullet at a target at the mere age of 6 or 7 years old.
Thanks to this expertise since an early age, teenage agents were much more efficient than adults training in the military. The arts of fighting and spying were instilled in them. Those kids were fierce, fearless and formidable.
Despite how effective the agency was in eradicating gangs and criminals in general, they were not very much liked by the government.
Contrary to the police force or agencies under the korean government which would prioritise catching their targets alive, the agency had no such regard for criminals' lives. They killed without looking back and only captured those who had valuable information to provide.
The agents also seemed to have no regard concerning infrastructural laws. They ignored speed limits, drove past red lights, jumped on cars, damaged buildings and created havoc in the streets in the pursuit of criminals.
The main troublemaker of the agency was none other than the infamous agent 005, more commonly known as V. "A single letter name overflowing with charm," as he liked to call it.
His real name was unknown to the public, as was the real names of the other top 10 agents. They all had code names besides their numbers. However, those code names were strictly reserved for the leader and the agents ranking from one to ten.
In addition to the leading 10, there was also the list of top agents which consisted of the top 25 spies. These agents obtained extremely dangerous missions and were also the most trustworthy of the agency. And unlike other agents, they seldom went on team missions, unless it was to rescue a lower-ranked agent, since they could handle perilous missions on their own.
That was one of the factors that made them deserving of their ranks. Moreover, they had the highest number of criminal captures and kills as well as extraordinary fighting skills. They were also extremely intelligent and could figure out solutions very rapidly when they were in trouble, hence why they could get out of any situation.
Furthermore, some of these agents were leaders of the different units making up the agency such as the fighting department, the weapon-wielding one or the hacking unit.
Among the rescue missions, running after and killing outlaws, another type of mission which was popular was undercover missions. Usually reserved to agents with less experience, those missions were mainly to find information before proceeding with an actual plan.
Undercover missions were not generally dangerous, but they could be if the person to be trailed was a redoubtable criminal. Those missions would then require a higher-ranking agent.
But some agents had high dislike for those, especially in some specific cases...
"There's no way in hell that I'm wearing this!" shouted V as Yoongi held the piece of clothing in front of him.
It was a dress. A short floral blue dress with a deep V-neck lined with pink flowers and frills at the bottom that would probably reach his lower thigh.
"Do you want to save him or not?" asked Yoongi softly.
"But- but-"
"Then just do it!" Yoongi exclaimed. "What's the problem with an undercover mission? I'm sure it won't even take you that long to get to the bottom of it."
"Listen, I don't mind going undercover. Not my favourite type of mission, but I would do it but this," he pointed at the dress, "this is simply ridiculous!" V tried reasoning with the 3 agents who stared at him, completely uninterested in his argument.
"You're the only one who can do it, okay? As an agent, you have to complete your missions under any circumstances," reminded Hoseok also known as J-hope or agent 002.
"I get that but why does it have to be a female teacher goddammit?!" V shouted, utterly exasperated.
"It will be easier for you to get in contact with every student and you will get easy access to everyone's personal information," replied Hoseok.
"I could do that as a male teacher too!"
"You could, but I'm sure it would be a lot quicker to get the boys' attention as a woman," smirked the elder.
"Why do I have to get their attention? Weren't I only supposed to be gathering information?" V asked, perplexed.
"Yes, but you might have to put in a lot of effort and well... flirting to-"
"Say what now?!" V burst out. "I'm going there for a mission. If you need a seducer, that's not my job!"
"Well, you'll have to do it! No one's going to present all the information on a golden platter the moment you step there," argued Yoongi.
"Just ask one of the guys or girls down there. I'm sure they'll be more than glad to have an official mission for once instead of just trying to get information from gross fuckers in pubs," V rolled his eyes.
Hoseok sighed. "None of them are trained enough. I don't think you get how dangerous this is. We can't just send any agent, only a top agent is qualified enough for this. If the cover gets blown, things can get really dirty and an agent of lower rank won't be able to handle it. This mission is unpredictable, so please just suck up your pride and fucking do it!"
"How about asking the girls? You've got 9 of them who are top agents!"
"Well, Mina has to go back to Japan for a mission and Momo will be accompanying her. Seulgi is the ome leading the fighting department for now, so we can't send her on a long-time mission. Sunmi and Yeji are departing for Italy tonight to stop the new mafia that gained power there-"
"Wasn't that my mission?" Taehyung asked, quite baffled. Why did they transfer his mission to those 2?
"Yeah, but you wasted 2 whole hours with the Baekjun operation and missed the meeting. Also, looking deeper into it, you would've needed another agent to accompany you and since you hate doing team missions, it was given to them," Namjoon explained. "And don't interrupt me!"
"Tzuyu is being posted to the Taiwanese base to handle things there, Lia is busy with the expansion of the agency in New York and Amber is establishing more bases in California," the leader concluded. "All of them are taken up, you'll have to do it."
"You missed one," stated V. "What about Joy? I'm pretty sure she's free."
Hoseok chuckled. "You really think she would be willing to go on a mission to save the person she hates the most?"
"Try asking her first," insisted V. "She might hate him, but they're still comrades. She won't let a fellow agent die."
"Right. Remember when they fought on the ring and were about to kill each other had other agents not intervened?" Yoongi said as he rolled his eyes.
"That was just a playful fight," replied V despite knowing it had been everything but a playful fight. "Let me ask her!"
He saw the girl in question passing by in the adjacent hallway through the glass window. "Hey! Sooyoung!" He called, catching her attention.
The agent, who ranked at number 8, walked towards them and greeted the leader. However, before V could say a word, she affirmed, "if it's about rescuing that bastard, don't count on me. I would rather die than save him."
Her expressions were neutral but still very much firm, showing that she stood by what she said. She was usually bubbly and smiling but her whole attitude changed when her rival, more like enemy even, was mentioned.
"What's your problem with him? Would you just let him die?" V questioned, exasperated. One of the first things every agent learned was solidarity and respect for other agents. They had been told that all of this was not a competition but that they were working towards a better and safer world, and for that they needed to start by respecting each other.
However, many agents didn't respect that. Some were great friends while others were rivals competing to surpass each other. The rivalry was common since everyone strived to be in the top 10, top 25 or even top 100.
Yet, the enmity between agent 008 and agent 011 was one that remained incomprehensible. They hated each other, it was as simple as that. It seemed to go beyond the ranks, number of criminals caught, fighting skills or other harmless achievements that agents usually got competitive over but no one knew what exactly had sparked that hatred.
All that was known was that the two were sworn enemies since as long as it could be remembered. At some points, everyone had stopped searching for reasons and simply accepted it. But now, V couldn't help but wonder about it once again.
"He should have since a long time ago. That's what he deserves," replied Sooyoung unapologetically.
At that moment, V felt everything going red around him. His blood was boiling within his veins and the fury in his eyes was as clear as crystal. His eyebrows were furrowed and jaw clenched.
Knowing very well that a scene similar to the one that had occured earlier would unfold, Hoseok grabbed V's arm in a vice-like grip. "Don't do anything you'll regret," he hissed at the younger.
"I won't regret punching her guts out," he growled, trying to free himself.
Sooyoung sighed. "I get that he's important to you and you can't hear anyone say anything bad about him but let's be real, he would've done and said the same if our roles were reversed," she said calmly. Everyone in the room knew it was true and V couldn't argue on that.
"If you want to save him, go ahead. I wouldn't stop you. But you can't force me to get involved in a mission I despise," she continued. She bowed to RM to signal her departure and exited the room without another word.
V let out a sigh of frustration. He wanted to be angry at her but he knew she was right. He knew how much they hated each other. What even made him think that she would agree to this? He, out of everyone, knew the intensity of their hatred. He knew they would leave each other to die if they ever came to such a situation. Where did that ridiculous idea still come from?
Was he that desperate to escape that mission? Yes, he certainly was. But was he more desperate to escape this mission than to save the boy he's known for 12 years now? Certainly not!
He would save him even if his life depended on it. After all, he couldn't even imagine his life without him. He was the most important person in his life and he wasn't going to abandon him like that.
I promise to rescue you, Jiminie.
Just as this thought formed in his mind, he heard a soft voice speaking, sounding rather intimidated. He focused back to reality and a smile formed on his face for the first time that morning.
"Hey Seunghee!" He said to the girl who looked sort of lost and scared even.
The girl turned her attention to him and her eyes immediately brightened. "Hi V!"
"What brings you here?" He asked casually.
"Uh- umm... I just needed to a-ask you some- something," she stuttered in a small voice.
"Hyun Seunghee," said Namjoon sternly. "We're in the midst of a meeting right now. You shouldn't be interrupting."
"Ye-yes. I- I'm really sorry," she bowed deeply. "I'll take my leave."
"Yah! Don't go," V stopped her. "The official meeting's over. We were just discussing something."
Namjoon glared at him while Hoseok simply chuckled at the exchange.
"What is it you wanted to ask?" V asked the shorter girl, completely ignoring Namjoon.
"Oh it's nothing. I was just wondering where's Jimin, he-" she noticed Namjoon's glare and corrected herself. "I- I mean, Jimin sunbaenim. Seulgi sunbaenim said she'll be replacing him for some more days. He was supposed to be back today, wasn't he? Did something happen?"
Seunghee could look all innocent and fragile but she was in fact very witty. Despite being fairly new, she got the gist of things really quickly. It was one of the aspects of her character that made her known as an agent with much potential.
"It's nothing, he just got held back," replied RM.
Seunghee, however, was smart enough to know that it was not totally true. Jimin was not an agent to get held back with a mission for days. He completed them on time and even earlier most of the time.
She frowned and looked at V for confirmation. The latter sighed. Namjoon gave him a warning look, sensing that he would reveal everything. "Don't you dare," he said in a serious tone.
"Come on! Whether I tell her or not, you know she's smart enough to figure it out."
Knowing he wouldn't be able to stop him since V was pretty stubborn and acted like he owned the entire agency, Namjoon simply sighed.
"If I tell you, you have to promise me not to panic, okay?" V declared. Seunghee nodded almost instantly. "Jimin's cover was blown during his last mission concerning Baekjun's mafia and they held him captive."
Seunghee gasped, her brown almond-shaped eyes going wide. "Aren't you going to save him?"
"We're planning to," said Hoseok.
"But you see, the only problem here is that V doesn't want to conduct the undercover mission," continued Yoongi.
Seunghee instantly exclaimed, "I can do it if he doesn't want to! Undercover missions are not that hard, right?"
"No, Seunghee. This one's dangerous. You've just entered the top 100 last week, you're not yet qualified enough for this one," explained Hoseok.
"But Jimin said I've been progressing quickly! I can do this!" She protested.
Hyun Seunghee had just joined the agency 6 months ago. She had been kidnapped by a gang who ran a human trafficking business and was about to be sold when V and Jimin had raided the gang and put an end to its activities, sending all the kidnapped teenagers back to their families.
That was how they had found her. She had been traumatised by the incident and wouldn't speak at first. Since they couldn't just leave her in the middle of nowhere, they had brought her to the headquarters. It had taken around a week for her to finally reveal her name and tell them that she didn't have a family anymore since her father was in jail for murdering her mother.
The two had then introduced her to the world of agents and spies and had asked whether she would be interested in joining them. The way Jimin and V had fought against those gangsters and had saved eveyone had inspired her and she wanted to be like them.
That was what motivated her to train hard to become a better agent. Her progress was quite remarkable, considering she was in the top 100 only 6 months after having joined.
Jimin had taken her under his department and would often personally train her. However, more than a mentor, he was her friend along with V. The two were the ones who had helped her overcome her trauma and helped her in becoming more acquainted with how things worked at the agency.
Being warm-hearted, Seunghee also made friends with several other agents, including Hoseok and Yoongi who would often hang out with V and Jimin.
Her determination to rescue Jimin reflected that of V. He could hear it in her voice and he knew that it was because she still felt indebted towards Jimin for all that he's done for her.
He placed a hand on her shoulder and bent down a little to reach her height. It was only when he looked directly into her eyes that he noticed how they were glazed with tears. "I promise you that nothing will happen to him. I will rescue him and get him back here safe and sound," he assured.
He ruffled her hair and went on, "now, don't cry. Everything will be fine."
Seunghee pushed V's hand away and rubbed her eyes to get rid of the tears. "Stop treating me like a child. I'm only a month younger than you!" She complained.
"I know but you always seem so much smaller, I mean just look at your height!" He joked as he wrapped his arms around her to trap her in a hug.
Seunghee punched him lightly while giggling a little. "Stop teasing me about my height! 'S not my fault I'm short!" She complained. This was a pretty common banter between them which usually also involved Jimin when he was there.
"Iss okay 'cause you're cute," V laughed while tackling her in a headlock and ruffling her hair even more.
"Ah! Stop that!!" She shouted while fighting to free herself.
The sound of a throat being cleared made the two realise where they were. V instantly let go of her while she fixed her hair and bowed deeply to the leader and mumbled a small apology before bolting out, leaving V to chuckle at how nervous she always was in front of Namjoon.
"You should stop scaring her like that," he said, shaking his head in amusement.
"She might be your friend but to me, she's no different from the other trainees here. Trainees are meant to be brought up harshly so they become reliable agents in the future," Namjoon stated.
"But here's the thing! She's not a trainee anymore. She passed the exam a month ago and even entered the top 100 since last week, so that makes her an official agent!" V reminded proudly.
"Yeah, I know. But she's still undergoing her training," he said. "Anyway, did I hear it wrong or have you finally decided to undertake the mission?"
V sighed. "Yeah... I'll do it."
"Great," commented Yoongi rather enthusiastically. "Let me explain the rest of the plan to you! We have your background as well as everything you need to know ready. Make sure to memorise it all by tomorrow morning."
He passed a file to V, making the young boy's eyes widen. There was probably at least 300 pages of information in there. How the hell was he supposed to learn it all in a single night?!
"You're also gonna have to say goodbye to your silver hair," said Hoseok. V visibly sulked at those words. He had come to see his silver hair as his own signature although it had initially been a dare to dye it of that colour.
Hoseok presented him a brown wig and added, "we'll dye your hair to this colour. We've gotten the exact hair dye too." This mission was really serious and obviously, they couldn't take any chances of getting exposed due to some stray hair strands. Better be safe than sorry.
"Cool, I got it," V sighed but nodded nevertheless.
"Oh and also there's one thing we might've forgotten to add," said Yoongi and Hoseok snickered at those words. V looked at them with his eyes narrowed in suspicion. What did they plan now?
Yoongi presented an item to him and V's eyes widened comically. "The fuck is that?!" He exclaimed.
"That's a silicone breast. You'll have to wear it if you wanna truly look female," Yoongi said, maintaining his calm composure while Hoseok was full out laughing.
"Please tell me that's a joke," V mumbled as he took his head in his hands.
"No, see you put it over your head like a you're wearing a shirt and bam! you instantly have boobs," Yoongi said, unable to control his laughter and bursting out laughing.
V frowned. "Honestly, y'all are just setting this up to make fun of me!"
"Not our fault if it's funny," said Namjoon, a look of amusement lighting his own eyes. "It's just for the sake of a realistic mission. Can't afford to have your cover blown because of a simple mistake!"
"Realistic, huh? How about getting me a silicone vagina while you're at it?" He mumbled under his breath as he rolled his eyes.
"We could arrange that for you if you want. It actually exists," Yoongi cackled, receiving a glare from V.
"Okay, okay, let's get back to serious matters," Namjoon declared but couldn't help the laugh that escaped his lips. "Sorry, V, you'll have to do it. It's for the sole purpose of carrying out the mission properly."
V huffed in anger at being made fun of. "Is that all? Can I go now?"
"No," Yoongi said, getting serious again. "You'll begin tomorrow itself. We'll be sending you to your new house close to the school tonight, so make sure to pack a few things you'll find necessary. But not too much though, since we already kept the stuff you'll need for your mission there."
"Ok but what if I get attacked? You know an attractive young woman on her own could easily become a target. That's why I should go as a male teacher instead!" V reasoned, trying to change their minds for the last time.
"You're an agent, V. You can fight," Namjoon rolled his eyes.
"Oh but I thought it should be realistic," V mocked in a high-pitched tone. "A delicate and vulnerable little teacher shouldn't be able to fight back," he said in a pout, fluttering his eyelashes obnoxiously.
"Shut up, we're not changing our minds," affirmed the leader, causing the younger to huff and cross his arms.
"Fine! I've got 2 conditions then," declared V.
Yoongi rolled his eyes but sighed nevertheless, "and what are those?"
"One, there's no way I'm wearing this horror you call a dress and if you've got anymore of those in that house, I'm burning every single one of them!"
"What's so terrible about it?" pouted Hoseok who had chosen it.
"Every fucking thing! It's absolutely horrendous! I'm not wearing that! It looks like it was made out of my grandma's bedsheets!"
The dress in question:
"Okay fine, we'll throw that one away and no, the ones in your closet are much better," said Yoongi. "What's the second condition?"
"I want my female name to be Taeyeon," he replied, completely serious.
"The fuck? No we're not giving you the name of a famous idol!" Namjoon exclaimed.
"Why not?"
"It's not realistic!"
"It's just a name! Anyone can be named Taeyeon! Besides, you all decided everything for me. I, at least, want to choose my name!" insisted V.
Namjoon was about to argue but Hoseok stopped him. "Let him be, Joon. It's just the name."
Namjoon sighed, "okay fine!"
"Alright!" V said, gathering his supplies and walking out.
Wait for me, Jimin! I'm coming to get you.
