4.02 Thin Ice

Ed rolled and threw Cassandra on the floor.

"Stop! Both of you! Now! Eden put your dagger away and go to the bedroom."

"I'm not leaving till she gets out of here. You did the talking. Now it's my turn. I have killed people for way less than this."

"I said enough! Go to the bedroom." Ed ordered Eden.

Eden frowned, turned around and went back into the bedroom without speaking a word.

"I knew you become stupid when it comes to Eden but I didn't know that you were suicidal, Cassandra. You know well that Eden didn't miss. She could have aimed for your heart and you would be dead now. The only reason she let you get away with that this time is because she knows that you are the mother of my son. She missed for his sake and mine. I can assure you that the next time she won't miss. That was her warning. Go and take care of your arm and never come back here. My door has permanently closed for you." Ed grabbed Cassandra and made her stand on her feet.

"You will never see your son again." She threatened him.

"Don't push your luck."

Cassandra took her knife and stood up.

"I gave you everything and you betrayed it all for a memory that was never real. You are on your own now. No Lost Soul is going to stand by you, not even your own flesh and blood. I know you killed your Father, the Preacher of the Lost Souls and it didn't matter to me. The gravestone that stands nameless behind your ear won't have your son's name on it. It has your name carved on it. You just don't know it still." Cassandra headed to the door.

"Regardless your wishful thinking my blood runs in his veins. I didn't have a mother to kill. Who can really tell what would had happened if I had?" Ed asked and opened the front door for her to leave.

"He's nothing like you, you bastard!" Cassandra replied and turned around. She was about to lose her temper once more.

"You are walking on thin ice. Take my advice and just leave this place as long as you are still standing on your feet."

"You called me suicidal but you are the one who placed his bet on a dead horse."

Ed pushed her outside of the house.

"Get out!"

"Your son already knows that you are an outcast. He is about to know that you tried to kill his mother as well." Cassandra stepped out the house.

"In case you died here today, Icarus would take my place and the Lost Souls would attack the Outcasts. The Outcasts would slaughter them like they did with my dogs without a second thought. Our son would be dead yet no one would ever call him a hero but a fool who leaded them to a massacre. I know you Cassandra. Our son doesn't have to pay for our sins."

Ed closed the door behind him and took a bottle of whiskey that was left on the table. He poured some whiskey on his glass and sat on the sofa.

* In Greek Mythology Icarus was Dedalus' son. (Dedalus was Labyrinth's creator.) Dedalus created wings made of was and feathers for Icarus to fly but warned him to fly neither too close to sun so it wouldn't melt the was nor too close to the sea so sea's dampness wouldn't clog his wigs. Icarus didn't listen to him and flew close to the sun (human's hubris) and the wax melt, fell into the sea and died.
