Chapter 11

The girls were in bed later that night, and Stephanie shone a flashlight in DJ's face to wake her up, DJ trying to cover her eyes.

"DJ, are you asleep?" Stephanie whispered.

"I can't tell. I think I'm blind." DJ grumbled.

"Will you look at one more outfit?" Stephanie begged her, jumping up and down, shaking the light in DJ's face as DJ sat up, rubbing her eyes.

"Stephanie, I've seen your entire wardrobe twice." She told her, but Stephanie wasn't done yet.

"Okay, want to listen to the pledge?" Then she stood up straight, holding her hand over her heart. "I pledge allegiance to the flag, of some states of America." DJ sighed, before crawling out of bed and picking Stephanie up, carrying her over to her own bed.

"I am going to tuck you in, very tight." She told her, wrapping her blankets around Stephanie as she continued with her version of the pledge.

"...and to the public which understands with God and liberty..." She trailed off as  DJ went back to her own bed, unable to remember anything else. "I'm dead meat!"

Meanwhile, Jesse and Joey had just finished Michelle's bath.

"Okay she's clean." Jesse said as he sat her in her bath bassinet, getting her dressed. "You could eat off this baby." Joey smiled, and looked up at Jesse.

"Hey Jesse, thanks for helping me out with the baby." He said gratefully, and Jesse waved his thanks away.

"No problem, I've got a date tonight with a dancer, but not until midnight." Joey's eyebrows rose at him.

"Another exotic dancer?" Jesse's eyes went wide, holding his hand to chest, looking offended.

"For your information Joseph, I happen to be dating a ballerina." Joey gave him a look, and Jesse looked down, a little red in the face. "Okay, she's a topless ballerina." Joey chuckled, and Jesse patted his shoulder. "Good luck tonight." Joey smiled, a little anxious about tonight

"Yeah, tonight 9:30. This could be the big break I've been waiting for, Jesse. I've been at this comedy stuff since I was 4 years old when I did my first impression. Ever since then all I've wanted to do is make people happy. Does this make any sense to you?" Jesse nodded, trying to be understanding. It was a bit like his music. Doing it because he loved it and it made people happy.

"Oh yeah, I know what you're saying." He told him, preparing to go into one of his speeches. "You see Joey, you're talking about that magical moment when all of the sudden you know what you want to do with your life. Happened to me when I was six. Turned the TV on, and there was Elvis Pressley, the King Creole." He took a moment to reminisce on that magical moment when he fell in love with music, before snapping back into reality. "Anyway, Elvis made me feel that music was something special you know. I've got to be honest with you, when he started singing Hardheaded Woman, forget about it, I was touched. "It was like..." he tried to think about it, then stood up inside of the tub. "...it was like this." He took a hairbrush in his hand and began trying to sing like Elvis, impressing Joey and entertaining Michelle.

"Jesse, you are great man." Joey complimented, Jesse smiling modestly. "You've got all the moves..."

"Well, I feel it you know." Jesse told him, putting his hand to his heart, trying to express that feeling to Joey. "I feel it, and I'm doing this lip thing, you know, which is new."

"Sing another song." Joey told him, Jesse furrowing his eyebrows. "Would you please, for Michelle? She loves music." Jesse sighed, but he nodded. He would never miss the opportunity to sing for Michelle, or sing some Elvis.

"Alright, I need a scarf." He told Joey, looking around. "I need..." Joey grabbed a towel from the towel rack and climbed into the tub with Jesse to hand it to him. "Here we go. Alright, get a load of this." He wrapped the towel around his neck like a scarf and began singing again. "Love me tender, love me sweet!" He sang, throwing the scarf so it landed over Michelle, Joey dancing with him in the tub. "Never let me go. You have me, and I have you too. And I love you so. Love me tender, love me-"

"Oh my God!" Danny interrupted the Song and Dance, making Jesse jump.

"What! We were just giving the kid a bath!" Jesse told him, Danny's arms crossed.

"Then why isn't she in the tub?" He demanded, and Jesse threw up his hands as though it were obvious.

"Because Joey's in the tub, and I'm in the tub, and there's not enough room for, you know all of us!" Danny shook his head, picking Michelle up out of her bassinet, smiling.

"It's obvious, I really am intruding." He told them playfully. "I'm going to go and put Michelle in her crib, I'm going to go check on my other girls, and just leave you two sailors to your suds and your singing." And as soon as Danny left, Jesse continued singing.
