Eve's POV (both are six)

"I found you!" Lachlan giggled as his blond head poked around the corner of the house. I squealed and dashed off, determined not to let Lachlan tag me.

"You can't catch me! I'm too fast!" I shrieked and as I tore around a bush and crawled inside it, breathing hard.

Lachlan ran past it and I could still hear him yelling, "BUT I'M THE BLUUUUUURRRRR!"

I giggled to myself, priding myself on successfully getting away. I leaned against the bush, not caring about the leaves in my hair.

I laid back, my breathing calming down. I closed my eyes for a minute then looked to the left as a look out.

All clear.

To the right.

I stared at a blond face and jumped. I squealed loudly and rolled out of the bush before taking off running again.

"EVE LET ME TAG YOU!" Lachlan called, charging after me.

"NO WAY!" I shouted back, climbing up a tree. I stayed there, perched like a bird.

"Eve! Come on!" Lachlan shouted, pouting at the foot of the tree.

I groaned, climbing down.

But I wasn't gonna let him tag me. Not yet.

I jumped over his head, landing on the ground with a thump. I took off sprinting to the house, giggling.

I ran inside, closing the door, laughing quietly as I heard Lachlan run past the door loudly. My mom was standing in the garage, watching in amusement.

"Hey Eve! Watcha doing?" she asked, turning to me and rubbing at a spot of dirt on my cheek.

"I'm playing Hide and Seek Tag with Lachlan!" I replied cheerfully. Mom looked down.

"Hey Eve, I talked to Lachlan's mom today."

"Are we having another sleepover?" I asked, grinning widely.

"Honey, Lachlan and his family are moving."

"They... they what?"

No, Lachlan couldn't be moving! Not my best friend! He told me he would never leave!

I felt a tear slip down my cheek before I started downright bawling into my mom's shoulder.

"Hey, it's okay, Honey," she soothed, rubbing my back. "You'll make new friends."

"I don't want new friends!" I wailed. "I-I just want Lachlan to stay..."

TIME SKIP OF 12 YEARS

College is boring as fudge.

I groaned, erasing the doodles I had subconsciously drawn as the professed droned on about something about math.

I groaned again, laying my head on my arms.

Why could none of my friends come with me? Now here I was, listening to boring classes with no friends and only a goldfish to keep me company.

Literally.

His name's Lachlan. For some reason that name just popped into my head.

I don't know why.

Eh.

I already know I'm crazy.

BRIIIINNNGG

I sprung from my seat, grabbed my books, and dashed out the door. Saved by the bell. Literally.

I made a wide turn, heading for my dorm room. Apparently too wide because I slipped and fell face first, my books scattering everywhere.

I groaned, feeling my face flush red, kneeled down, and started to pick them up. A blond dude, probably one of those stuck up football players who don't miss a chance to go around strutting about who great they are, stopped, probably to call over his football friends and laugh at me.

But instead he knelt down next to me and picked them up as well.

When all my books were gathered up, he looked up at me, putting the ones he had gathered by the rest.

I couldn't help but notice his eyes, which were a striking blue.

He gasped, scanning my face.

"Eve?" he asked, grinning widely.

Year old memories from twelve years ago came rushing in.

"La- Lachlan?" I asked, my voice breaking.

He pulled me into a hug.

"I found you."
