Jin - Coincidence (part 1)

When Taemin and his girlfriend broke up, we were all relieved to see that their split was amicable. They coparented their daughter very well and she was loved very much by both of them.

But when you're a single father working as much as Taemin was, sometimes you needed help. Jackson, our brother, and I, moved into Taemin's house to help around the house and with Leah.

The county fair was going on close by and Jackson wanted to take her.

"Why don't you come with us?" He asked me, as he was putting on a cute tutu on her.

I was standing on the frame of her bedroom door, and she could barely keep herself contained.

"Yeah!" She screamed. "Auntie you should come with us!"

"That would be fun." Taemin said walking by the door. "I wish I could go." He walked in, gave her a kiss on the head and she hugged his leg. "I'll tell you what, tomorrow you and I can have a daddy daughter date. We will go to lunch wherever you want to go, and then get ice cream."

Her eyes lit up at the suggestion and he gripped onto the bottom of his shirt. "Can we go see the horsies???"

"Yes." He said, kissing her head again before standing up straight and looking between Jackson and I. "I'm going to be late, but hopefully not too late." He said, as he let out an annoyed huff walking out of the room. "This is the 3rd time I'm going to be pitching this project and I just need them to say 'yes'."

I chuckled. "Good luck."

"Thanks."

I then looked back over to Leah as she bounced up and down making it hard for her uncle to put on her shoes. "Pllllllllllllllease Auntie, come with us."

"Well of course." I smiled to her. "What else would I do?"

Taemin was a CEO of a multibillion dollar company that engineered a lot of new construction for the state. When Jackson and I moved in, he basically offered to pay for everything which really lightened up my workload to focus on my niece.

Her mother was also a working woman, and her schedule wasn't as flexible as Taemin's, so she had Leah every other weekend.

So on weekends that we had her, and Taemin had to work, we made sure to do something fun with her, so she didn't miss her parents too much.

This weekend was the fair, and she had been talking about it for weeks.

Finally, Jackson was able to get her shoes on, and we were headed out the door. When we got to the fair, we quickly realized that there were many rides she was not going to be able to get on due to her size. So we focused on the smaller rides that she could go on on her own and we watched from the outside.

After about an hour, she got on one ride that she wanted to go on again, and again.

Jackson and I stood outside of the ride talking about a birthday party her mother wanted to throw, and asked me to make the cake.

I am a backer by trade, and Leah and I often made fancy cupcakes for her to take to her moms.

"I think I'm going to make a cupcake, cake." I said to Jackson who raised an eye brow at me.

"Like you're going to build a cake out of cupcakes."

"Yeah." I shrugged. "You can help!" I laughed.

After another round on this ride, I realized I had to use the bathroom. So I left Jackson and Leah to find where the restrooms are. To my dismay, they were at the opposite side of the rides.

It took me a few minutes, but I finally made it. The bathrooms were much cleaner than I expected, and I used the sink to wash some of the dirt and sweat off of my face.

As I walked out of the bathroom, a little girl in a pink bow caught my eye. She looked as if she was about to cry, and was frantically looking around her as if to look for someone.

Oh, no.

She was lost.

I looked around to see if there was an equally frantic parent near by, but nothing seemed out of the ordinary.

I couldn't just leave her there.

Slowly and carfully I approached her, and when she saw how close I was her eyes went wide and she stepped backwards.

"Dont be scared." I told her in a calm voice. I sat next to her, as she stood so she didn't feel like I was crowding her. "Are you lost?" I asked her. She still took a step back and looked as if she was about to run, but after another frantic glance of her surroundings, I think she took a leap of faith to trust me.

She nodded to me and pulled out an iphone that looked to be dead. "I cant call my daddy." She said, her voice full of fear.

"Do you know your daddy's number?" I asked, pulling my own phone out. She shook her head almost violently, finally a tear falling from her eye as she stepped closer to me.

"He gave my this so I could call but it wont turn on." She said, her little voice wavering a bit.

My heart hurt for her. She was clearly so very scared and I did not want to scare her further, but I refused to leave her alone.

"My name is Piper, what is your name?"

"Minah."

"Well Minah, I am here with my brother and niece Leah. They are all the way at the other side of the fair. That's where I last saw them. What about you? Do you remember when you last saw your Daddy?"

"This morning before he went into his office." She said, stepping closer to me so she was standing right next to me. "Before I went with his men to come here."

His men?

"Okay...um...well who are you here with?"

"Kookie and TaeTae." She replied.

"Who are they?"

"Kookie is my uncle and TaeTae is Daddy's guy."

Daddy's guy?

"So you are just here with those two?"

"Yeah. We were having fun and then, I had to go potty and I remembered where they were, and um, I'm a big girl so they cant go in with me. So I left and then when I was done, I couldn't remember where to go and I'm in so much trouble." She finished before she burst into tears and leaned her body into me.

I wrapped my arms around her and tried to calm her best I could. "No, no sweetie. I don't think you're in trouble."

"I am because Daddy always says that I cant be by myself. But I wanted to be a big girl so Daddy didn't have to leave so much, and I just wanted to go potty by myself." She explained through sobs.

I felt bad for this little girl. Leah had shown similar thoughts about being a big girl so her mom and dad wouldn't have to work so much, but they are children. They don't know better.

"Minah, can I stand and pick you up?" I asked her.

She nodded her head, so I swiftly gripped her little body and hoisted her up on my hip. She was about the same size as Leah, maybe a little smaller.

"Now this is what we are going to do, we are going to go for a walk, and you are going to look around and tell me if you can find your uncle Kookie or TaeTae."

She nodded, and just as I took a few steps my phone rang.

"Hey Jackson."

"Where are you?"

"I am by the bathrooms, I found this little girl. She's lost and here with her uncle so I'm going to help her find them."

"Oh shoot...um well Leah got sick. I think we need to go home."

"Take her home. I can uber back, it's no big deal."

"Are you sure?"

"Yeah, get her home. She probably just rode too many rides."

"Yeah I think so too. Text me when you find them okay, and let me know when you're on your way home. Do you have all of your stuff?"

"Yeah I have my wristlet in my pocket and I think you have the keys."

"Yeah I do. I'll see you at home."

"By Jackson."

"Leah not feel good?" Minah asked me as she looked at me with her big round brown eyes.

"No, but that's okay." I smiled to her.

"Do you have to leave?"

"No sweet girl, I'm going to help you find your uncle Kookie."

She nodded and started looking around. We were walking for quite some time and I started to worry that we kept missing them. Maybe they were frantically looking for her and I was just taking her in the opposite direction.

Just then she gasped.

"Uncle Joonie!" She shouted and pointed outward. I followed her finger point and saw 3 grown men shoving through the crowd, the one in the middle looking worried and nearly sick.

Do you see someone you know? I asked her. 'Uncle Joonie' was not a name she mentioned to me.

"That's my uncle Joonie, and that is Hobi and Suga." She said with a smile on her face. "Can we go see them?"

"Of course." I said, walking to the side of the crowd. Both her and I started waving our hands in the air, and she screamed for her uncle Joonie at the top of her lungs once again, causing all three of them to stop and turn towards us.

I could see the releif on all of their faces when they saw her, and faster than humanly possible they made it to us. Who I assumed to be 'Uncle Joonie' got to us first, sweeping the little giggling girl out of my arms and into his spinning with her.

"Oh my sweet girl." He said, as the other two let out a breath of relief. "Where did you go?"

"I saw the joy of seeing her uncle leave her eyes and then the tears bubble. His angry face softened, and he ran his hand over her head.

"I'm so sorry Uncle Joonie, I was trying to be a big girl?" Then the sobbing didn't stop. She buried her face into his neck, and he only held her closer to him. She sobbed out the story, barely able to really get it out or in a way to understand.

He calmed her a bit, and then turned to me as she took deep breaths. "Who are you?" He asked, slightly abrasive.

I ignored the rudeness and smiled. "I'm Piper, I found her by the bathrooms looking terrified. She said she was here with her Uncle Kookie."

"I'm going to kill those guys." The one she called Hobi said as he whipped out his phone.

"I'll call Jin." Suga said as they both walked away from us making a call.

The one holding the little girl walked over to me extending his hand for me to shake. "Namjoon." He said. "Thank you so much for helping her."

"I'm just glad it was me and not someone with ill intention."

Just then Suga came back to us. "Jin is on his way home and wants us to bring her to him."

Thinking that all the excitement as over I went to say goodbye to the men and Minah, pulling my phone out. "Well I have to call an Uber." I said to them.

"We will give you a ride." Suga said.

"Oh, it's okay."

"Come with us." Namjoon said, keeping his arms around Minah. "We insist."

I'm a grown woman. I know stranger danger. And yet....

As we were in the car, Minah had promptly fallen asleep on her uncles shoulder. I was in the back seat with them, silence shrouding the car.

"I cant tell you how much I appreciate you helping her." Namjoon said softly. "She must have been so scared."

"She was." I nodded. "But she's okay now."

Silence fell again so I decided to keep talking.

"So what is going to happen to uncle Kookie."

"I'm killing him." The driver said, making the passenger laugh.

"He's my younger brother." Namjoon explained. "And my older brother is her father, and he might actually kill him."

"Not if I get my hands on him first." Suga said again.

"Well at least he had the sense to call you guys." I said. "But I would kill my brother too if he lost my niece."

"You have a niece too?"

"Yeah, that's why I was at the fair. I was there with my brother while her father was working."

Namjoon and I continued to talk in hushed tones as the car moved through the city. I didn't even notice they weren't taking me home, until the car was parked.

"Umm...i don't live here." I said, suddenly on alert.

"Jin wants to thank you in person." Namjoon said. "We will get you home safe, I promise you."

I was wary.

I got out of the car and pulled up to a very modest looking home. Not typically a home for someone who had 'men' or 'guys' as Minah said. But I didn't say much and walked with them to the front door.

The inside was clean and tidy, and much bigger than I expected. The two story home was warm and decorated with light blue painted walls. Picture frames of Minah and what I assumed to be her mother were above a fire place in the living room. Next to it there was one with her and Namjoon as well.

"Jin is upstairs in his office." Namjoon said. "Yoongi will show you where to go, I'm going to put Minah to bed."

"Bye Suga." Her little voice rang out. He smiled to her and gave her a small wave before turning to go up the stairs.

Why did I agree to come here? Maybe the lured me here with this little girl and this was how I was going to die.

Suga...or Yoongi, opened the door for me and a man in a nice black pinstripped suit was there scribbling signatures on a small mount of papers.

"Sir, Piper is here." Yoongi said.

Jin's head shot up and I was struck by his good looks.

"Thanks, Yoongs that will be all."

Yoongi shut the door and I stood there awkwardly as Jin smiled to me.

"Come sit." He said.

I did as he asked, and my nosey self got the best of me and I found myself looking at the papers he was singing.

My eyes went wide as I looked back up to him, and he grinned again.

"You think I would bring you in my house, with my daughter if I didn't know exactly who you were?" he smired arrogantly, and went back to signing the contract in front of him.

"That was quick." I commented, not wanting to give too much away.

"Well yes, but when you're a man like me, I have to know everything."

"Arrogance?"

He stopped and looked up at me cocking an eye brow follwing a slow smirk. "Maybe."

He went back to signing and by this point I knew exactly who this person was.

"So...third times a charm?"

He laughed as he signed the last paper, pulling them together. "I just needed to be sure."

He stood and made a copy of the signed documents, and I watched as he sealed the ink copies in an envelope handing it to me.

"I thought maybe you could deliver this to your brother yourself?"

I took the envelope and smiled. "Sure."

He then sat back down, and seemed a little nervous to ask his next question. "How's Minah?"

"She's relaxed and sleeping I bet."

"I'm going to kill Jungkook."

"Oooooooh JungKOOK. Uncle Kookie.... I get it now."

"My brothers love my daughter." He said to me guaging my reaction.

I was confused, it was like he was defending his brother to me. "You don't need to defend him." I said. "Why do you think my brother and I were both there with my own niece. I'm terrified of losing her like that. It can happen to good people."

"You really think that?"

"Yes." I said. "It's never happened to me before but I cant imagine the feeling I would have if it did."

"She's an adventurer you know." He said standing and grabbing a frame from behind him to show me. "She gets curious and brave and does things she's not supposed to."

"Is that why you have your men with her at all times."

"Yes." He said, sitting back down. "And my brothers."

"So that Suga guy isnt going to kill him?"

He laughed. "He might. He's just as much as an uncle as Jungkook is."

"Why bring me here?" I asked him. "It cant be to make a power move to get me to give this to Taemin."

"Oh no." He said. "When I figured out who you were and that it was your brother I was dealing with, I knew I had to meet you. I have seen you in pictures before, stalked a little on social media, but you are much prettier in person."

"Ah." I replied. "So this is a ploy."

"And just as smart as I thought you'd be."

"It's not rocket science, you're a man."

He smiled wide again before standing. "And I'm loving the attitude. Makes you even more attractive."

"And your arrogance makes me want to leave." I said standing up, gripping the contract under my arm. "So, good by Mr. Kim."

"You can call me Jin." He said smiling to me, holding out his hand. I shook it, but he held on tightly, pulling me gently to him. "I'll be seeing you again soon."
