Jackie's
Mommy calms Nathanael down while Daddy and I read my favorite book: Nancy Clancy. It's the best book ever! I've read it with Daddy a million times, and now I'm starting to read it by myself.
"Hey, Dave, I think it's time we put the kids to s-l-e-e-p," Mommy whispers to Daddy quietly. Nathanael still lays on her lap, cradled in her arms like the little baby he acts like.
"Ready for dream land, pumpkin?" Daddy turns to me, first setting the book down on the couch and then tickling my sides.
"No..." I giggle.
"You sure?" He teases, his voice drawn to a deeper, eviller level, tickling me again.
"Yes..."
"Ok, then...but you better-"
"David, no-" Mom starts, but it's too late, Daddy can't stop now.
"RUN! THE TICKLE MONSTER IS COMING!"
I scream and run into the entryway, aiming for the stairs. Daddy quickly rushes after, yelling a creepy, monster-like roar. I scream even louder, but I'm also laughing, as I stumble up the stairs.
By this time, Nathanael is already awake. He tries to catch up with Daddy and me, but we are just too fast, so he, like the cry baby he is, starts crying until Mommy gets off the couch and lets out a little roar of her own, chasing after Nathanael.
I run into the hallway, not the one my room is in, but instead the one with Mommy and Daddy's room. I slam their door open and close it after. Quickly locking it, I jump under the covers of their huge bed and hide they're: Daddy won't be able to find me here.
"Jackie! Jackie!" He sings when he enters the room. "Where are you?"
I cover my mouth to stop the giggles that will give me away, but it's way harder than it sounds.
"Are you in the closet?" The sound of a door opening and closing is heard. "Under the bed? Nooo...you're way to smart for that...ARE YOU IN MY BED?!" He yells loudly, while I scream: he found me, pulling the sheets and blankets off me.
"AHHHH!" I yelling when he grabs me around the waist, pulling me from the comfy bed.
"Are you ready for bed now?"
"Yes, Daddy." I yawn, wrapping my tiny arms around his huge neck as he carries me to Nathanael and I's room.
We don't share bedrooms most of the time, only during the times when we leave our main house in Yakima, and visit the ones elsewhere. This is one of those times. We left Yakima on Friday after school, and we'll stay here, at our house in the woods, until Sunday night, after Mommy's T.V. thingy.
"Good night, baby girl." Daddy whispers, setting me down on my queen sized bed. "I love you."
"Love you too, Daddy," I whisper back, rising my arms up for a hug.
He hugs me and plants a kiss on my head.
Mommy enters my room and repeats Daddy's action.
"See you in the Morning, Sweet girl."
Her lie seemed so true that night, that I'd believed it. What reason did I have not to?
______
My interview goes smoothly. There are not many people, the library is quite small, but the people that are there are amazingly sweet.
I feel like jumping with joy as I exit the little office and walk to Finn, who's standing in the check out line.
"I got the job!" I squeal quietly.
Half a moment later, and I'm wrapped in his arms.
Our first hug.
Finn is so tall compared to me, that I have to go on my tippy toes just to wrap my arms around his neck.
"Great job." He mumbles against my hair, holding me tight for a second more before letting go.
"Thanks. Ready to go?" Nodding towards his books.
"Yea." He grabs them with one arm and gets his keys out with the other. "Home you shall go."
We head to his car and he backs away from the library. We are on the busy highway before I finally muster up the guts to speak up.
"Remember how we were playing that get to know you game this morning?"
"Yea."
"Want to play it again?"
"Sure. You go first."
"Kay..."
What do I want to know...?
"Do you have any siblings?"
"No, but for the longest time I begged my parents for a little brother."
A little smirk crosses my lips. "But not a sister?"
"Nah. Girls are too hard to boss around."
True.
My last foster parents had three young kids, and believe me when say this: the little girls were nightmares. They stole my stuff, kicked me when I babysat, and worst of all: they once cut a chunk of my hair out when I was sleeping.
"So you're bossy?"
Yes, Stupid, he basically just said that.
Ok, so that wasn't the smartest thing to say...sue me.
"You could call it that."
"Alright. Your turn."
"How old are you?" He takes his eyes off the road long enough to look me in the eyes before re-focusing.
"Seventeen. I turn eighteen in May. You?"
"Also seventeen. Eighteen in October."
"Nice...um... I noticed you had an accent yesterday, what type is it?"
"Romanian."
Talk about sexy.
"You're Romanian?"
"No, just have the accent."
Call me stupid, but I'm confused: how can he have the accent, but still not be Romanian?
It's called parents. Most people have them.
Right.
"So your parents are Romanian?"
He laughs, though I don't get why. I see nothing funny.
"That would be pretty cool, but no. I lived in Rome for the first thirteen years of my life, guess I picked up on the accent."
"That is pretty awesome. I'm jealous. I've always wanted to travel to through the ancient cities."
"It was great. Best years of my life." He replies a faraway look in his eyes and a fond smile on his mouth. "My turn, tell me something unique about you."
"I'm simple plain Jane, nothing unique unless my circumstances count."
"For this question, they don't. And I'm positive there's something amazingly special about you."
If that's why he's staying around, he's gonna be disappointed.
Shut up.
I'm so done with that little guy...well for today anyway.
"Thank you, and does my ability to eat anything edible count?"
A smile retakes its place on his face, and he takes his eyes off the road to glance at me. "Sure." He parks the car and unlocks my door, but for some reason, I don't get out. "I've gotta go: my parents come home today."
"Oh ok."
I'm a little sad that he's leaving, but he's spent the whole day with me: I really can't complain.
"I'll see you soon." He grabs the hand that's on my knee and holds it. Leaning in, he places a light kiss on my head. "Kay?"
@&$%
"Yea."
I let go of his hand and get out of the car.
