I woke up in the morning to my phone buzzing. It stopped as soon as I touched it. I sighed once I saw who it was. One missed call from my moms. I sighed as I sat up, realizing that she must've took the baby again. Then I got up and looked around my room for my contacts. Where the hell are they? I thought and the sighed again as I looked at my glasses. Man, I hate wearing glasses! But I can't see without them either. So I threw on a hat and my jacket with grey sweat pants and went attempted to go downstairs. I ended up tripping over my foot and missing a step, which caused me to fall on my hip.

Jacob: FUCK!

My moms came in with the baby on her hip looking for me.

Mom: Jacob! Didn't I-. Baby!

She put Alaina down and raced over to me. I winced in pain when she touched me.

Mom: I have to roll you over so you can take your pills.

Jacob: I don't want to.. to take them.

Mom: Jacob, you have to. Otherwise the pain will only get worst.

She eventually got me to take the pills and after a time, I attempted to pretend that I was okay.

Jacob: Thanks Ma.

Mom: You're welcome baby. Are you okay, now?

I nodded.

Jacob: I'm fine. Now you know what today is, don't you?

Mom: Yes. It's April 17th. Why?

I chuckled.

Jacob: No Ma. You promised that you'd teach me how to drive today.

Mom: Not today. You're not able to drive with a fall like that.

Jacob: Ma. Look at this. I can walk. See?

I tried to play off walking normally with a straight face and I prayed that she'd buy it.

Mom: Jacob O'Neal Latimore..

Jacob: Yes ma'am.

I stood up straight, grinning.

Mom: If you even seem like you're not okay to drive, we're stopping the lessons. You got that?

Jacob: Yes ma'am.

Mom: Come on. And wipe that grin off your face.

I laughed as she went back outside. I sighed as I touched my hip before picking up Alaina and going outside. I made sure that Alaina was secure in her car seat before I hopped in up front. My moms looked at me as I started the car.

Jacob: I'mma show you what I know first and then you can be the judge on what we need to work on,

Mom: Fair enough. Just don't kill us.

I grinned as I pulled out the driveway. After a while of driving, I started playing around with her and she just shook her head.

Mom: You think you're a pro.

Jacob: I know it. That coma ain't make me forget nothing.

Because she is my moms, I substituted shit for nothing. I looked out the window as she got a call.

Jacob: Aye, Ma. You hungry?

She shook her head as I pulled up to McDonald's.

Lady: Hello, welcome to McDonald's. Go ahead and make your order whenever you're ready.

I took one last look at my moms.

Jacob: You sure you don't want anything? Cause I ain't driving nowhere else once we get back home. Last chance.

Mom: Okay! Nigga, damn!

Jacob: What do you want?

Mom: A fish sandwich and medium fries.

Jacob: Yes. I would like to order to medium fries, a fish sandwich and a McDouble cheese burger with extra pickles.

Lady: Is that all?

Jacob: Yes.

Lady: Alright. Your total is $4.65 and you can pull up to the second window.

Jacob: Thank you.

Mom: Take a look at him. Mr. Know-it-all.

I pulled up to the window as my moms got quiet.

Jacob: Aye Ma. You got change for a Ten?

Mom: Give me the ten and say hi to your auntie.

Jacob: Which one?

Mom: Take it and see.

I handed her the ten and she gave me two fives. I have one of them to the woman working there and then pulled up to the next window.

Aunt: Jacob Latimore! Is that you?

Jacob: Aunt Janet! How are you?

Aunt: Boy! You done grew up on me! Where the hell all that handsomeness come from?

Mom: You know where he got it from!

I chuckled as I attempted to be silly.

Jacob: Well you know.. I just grew from that little cutie to being this sexy man.

I rubbed my chin as I winked at her and we all laughed.

Aunt: Boy, you are a fool!

Jacob: I know. When are you coming back up to visit?

Aunt: I don't know, baby. I'll try and see if we can make the next family reunion or Christmas. But other than that, I'm not sure.

Jacob: Alright. I'm counting on it.

Aunt: Hand the phone back to your momma's I can boast about how handsome you've gotten!

I smiled as the lady came with our bag.

Jacob: Alright. Thanks.. Helen?

I looked at the girl and sure enough, it was her. Two jobs? The hell? I got out and stopped her.

Jacob: Helen!

Helen: What, Jacob?

She spat.

Jacob: Why didn't you call? I was gonna pick you up from work.

Helen: Because I was exhausted and had four hours to get ready for this job.

Jacob: Helen. You don't have to do this by yourself girl. I'm here. I want you to know that. Okay? If you need sleep or money, I am watch the baby and get the money for you. Okay?

Helen: Okay.

She nodded and I hugged her.

Helen: I just don't want you to feel like you have to give up your childhood for this baby.

Jacob: Speaking of Alaina, how long has she been alive?

Helen: A couple of months now.

I sighed.

Jacob: Why didn't you tell me sooner?

Helen: Everything happened so fast and I couldn't keep up. Jacob, my childhood is over and you still have time to enjoy your life.

Jacob: What are you saying?

Helen: I'm saying that-.

Man: Helen! Get back in here! We have other customers that need to eat too!

Helen: I gotta go.

Jacob: Call me!

She nodded and vanished inside the place. I hope that this ain't just another act to get me back. Because I know her. She's just that crazy. But I got two whole weeks until I find out if Alaina is truly mine. I bet I'll find out next week.
