Beep.. Beep.. Beep.. Beep..

The same annoying sound kept buzzing in my head. I looked around the room. Ugh.. Where is that annoying beep coming from? Wait a minute.. Oh crap.. I turned my head and saw a bunch of flowers in a vase with cards stacked up on the side of the vase. Then I looked to the other side of me once I tried to move my hand. What made me look over is when I felt a hand on mine. I looked at the hand.. Female.. I looked up at the girl who had her head down on her arm that rested on the white rail of my bed. I didn't wanna wake her, but I had to move my hand. So I did and she sat back, rubbing her face. Then she looked at me and stood up. I couldn't help but smile when she kissed my cheek. I was so glad to see her..

Jacob: Autumn..

I smiled. She put her finger up to her lips and smiled at me.

Jacob: Autumn..

All I could do was say her name..

Autumn: Yes, Jacob. I'm here, but you need to rest.

Jacob: For you, I'll do anything..

Autumn: Good.

She ran hand down the side of my face and then kissed my forehead. Once she sat down, my door was knocked on. It opened and in walked Trevor.

Trevor: Aye man. You up?

He walked up to my bed and we did our handshake.

Jacob: Yeah, I'm coo. You good?

Trevor: Yeah, I'm straight. Hey baby..

Autumn: Hey.

He went over to her and kissed her. My smile faded and I didn't know what to do. I know that we left on good terms, but I still love Autumn.. I can't just throw all of what we had away..

Jacob: So.. Wait. Y'all together?

Trevor: Oh, yeah. Sorry man. I would've told you sooner but you were in a coma.

Autumn laughed.

Jacob: How long you been together?

Autumn: Since my birthday. When I turned eighteen, he asked me to be his girl and.. I said yes.

She smiled as she shrugged.

Jacob: Oh.. Okay..

I nodded.

Trevor: I'll be in the car, babe.

Autumn: Alright.

Trevor: Aye Jacob, I gotta go. But I'm glad to see that you're awake. See you tomorrow.

Jacob: Iight.

We did our handshake and he left. I kept my eyes on the door and my hand on my chin.

Autumn: Jacob-.

Jacob: Wow..

Autumn: Jacob, I know how you feel about me, but I'm happy with Trevor.

Jacob: This ain't even about that..

Autumn: Then what is it?

She sat up and looked at me. I finally turned my gaze towards her. After a while, I just decided not to start some mess.

Jacob: Nothing.

Autumn: Really?

Jacob: Yeah, it ain't nothing.

Autumn: Wow.. Okay.. Well, I'm gonna go with Trevor because we made plans to go see about his mom today.

She said, standing up.

Jacob: Yeah, you do that..

I was in deep thought and I know how it sounded coming out my mouth but that wasn't even how I meant to say it. She got upset and put her hands on the foot railing and glared at me.

Autumn: Listen Jacob. Whatever feelings you have for me, squash them. Cause I'm done. Just be glad I came to see you just about everyday since you've been in here.

She left after that and I just shook my head. That wasn't even it. I just realized that the accident I rolled by was what could have been my death, but in reality was my mind replaying the accident and allowing me to see what happened. To see how lucky I am and something else I can't remember at the moment.. I sat up and called my mom.

Mom: Hello?

Jacob: Hey Ma. It's me, Jacob.

She was silent for a while and then I could hear her crying.

Jacob: Ma. Ma, don't cry. Please? I'm okay.

She sniffled and sighed.

Mom: I just got scared for you. I prayed to God for him to save you and here you are.

Jacob: Momma, please stop cryin'. I'm good. Just like you prayed, I'm okay.

I could just see her nodding her head to what I just said.

Mom: Okay.. I just love you so much.

Jacob: I love you too Ma.

Mom: I'm gonna come up to see you tomorrow because it's late and I have to get up for work.

Jacob: I know, Ma. How's Pops?

Mom: Julius?

Jacob: Uh, yeah.. Julius.

Mom: He's fine. He's been around to check on me a lot and he's even come to see you every chance that he gets. Those letters on your dresser are from him.

Damn.. He wrote a lot..

Mom: And those flowers are from me.

Jacob: Thanks Ma.

Mom: You're welcome, baby. I Love You!

Jacob: I Love You too.

Mom: See you tomorrow.

Jacob: Alright.

I hung up and sighed. Autumn and Trevor? This has to be the worst way to come back into the world.. I turned over and the annoying beeping noise started going off again.

Jacob: Ah, fuck!

I said as I covered my ears. A nurse came in a few minutes later and I gotta say, she was ugly as hell! But her body could grab a nigga's attention for the night..

Nurse: Well look who's up! Enjoy your vacation?

I sighed.

Jacob: Yeah, if you like seeing how you almost died being played over and over again in your head. Not only that but witnessing all the things in your life that you did wrong? Yeah.. Very pleasant..

She kept writing in her notebook and then shrugged.

Nurse: Well, I'm gonna take your blood pressure and after that, I'll give you your medication.

Jacob: Whoah whoah whoah whoah whoah whoah whoah.. What? Medication? What the hell I need that for?

Nurse: Your pain medication and-.

Jacob: Pain? I don't feel any pain! Woman, you crazy! Help! She's try'na drug me!

She rolled her eyes and closed the door.

Nurse: Listen Mr. Latimore, I have been instructed to give you your pain medication. But whether you take it or not, you cannot blame me if you wake up in excruciating pain. Okay?

Jacob: Fine.

I said as I crossed my arms.

Man, I can't wait to get the hell outta here!
