Am I Awake?

"You guys are seriously the BEST!" Jack laughed as he looked around at all of the egos, who were all sitting on top of Jack's bed like him. They were all sitting in a "friend circle" as they like to call it, they did this every night, and I mean EVERY NIGHT.

If you were wondering where Jack or any of his egos were at 9 PM, they were in Jack's room no doubt.

"No, Jack! You are!" Chase smiled back. "You're the best friend anyone could ever ask for!" He continued, smiling triumphantly at the other Irishman.

"You know what, we're all the best." Marvin declared, pointing his finger up to the paint-cracked ceiling of Jack's room, looking up with it.

"You guys, it's obvious that I'm the best person here. I mean come on, listen to my beautiful accent! None of you have a beautiful accent like mine, oh no!" Henrik boasted, purposefully flaunting and exaggerating his thick German accent. "I'm unique. Bow down to me!"

"How about no!" Chase pushed Henrik playfully, making him fall to his side, nearly falling off of the bed. "Chase, you dick!" Henrik glared at his smiling, divorced friend.

"Hey! Chase is not a dick!" Marvin squeezed Chase tightly, almost making Chase pass out. "Okay, Marvin, you're slightly killing me." Chase struggled to breath out, raising his hand up a little bit to try and grab Marvin's arm.

"Aww, come on. You're no fun." Marvin pouted, letting his arms drop to his sides and flop to the thick blanket beneath them. "Sucks to be you then." Chase smile sassily and turned his head back to his doctor friend, who was giving him a death glare. "Well, Henrik, did you recover from that fall okay?" He said sarcastically.

"Now now, break it up you two lovebirds!" Jack joked as he reached over and pushed the two egos away from each other.

"I ship it." Marvin whispered quietly, smirking at the two.

"Shut up or I'll have Anti stab you." Henrik narrowed his eyes at Marvin, smirking in the process. "Oh I'm so scared." Marvin replied, waving his arms in the air and rolling his eyes.

Anti then quickly looked up from the crochet he was engrossed in upon hearing his name, he was in the middle of knitting a knife for his collection of novelty knives.

"Look, cat boy, I may be into crochet, but that doesn't mean I can't stab you to death. I'm the most powerful ego here. I wouldn't fuck with me if I were you," The demon smirked, laying down his tools and sitting up straight, pulling his knees up to his chest. "You've all seen the "serous demon" me."

"Right, okay. You've killed people before and dragged blood all over our house and almost got us all arrested. If it weren't for me we would all be in jail trying not to drop soap in the prison showers." Jackieboy Man chimed in out of nowhere, staring at Anti grimly.

"Whatever," Anti scoffed, blowing a strand of his dark green hair out of his face. "Those policemen were naïve idiots anyway. They don't know what fun is."

"Anti, your definition of fun is stabbing people in the chest until all of their blood is all over the floor and staining your hands and knife red. Then you leave us with the aftermath and refuse to clean up the body or the blood. Which is super fucking gross." Jack lectured the other while the other egos snickered and tried their hardest to keep their composure.

"Yeah. And?" Anti questioned, tilting his head and smiling brightly. "I don't see anything wrong with that." He crossed his arms over his exposed knees from his black, ripped skinny jeans.

Jack rolled his eyes and laughed. "Oh Anti. I hate you, but love you. You're all so amazing. I'm so grateful to have all of you." Jack reached over to grab Anti's shoulder, but something seemed off.

His hand went right through, like Anti was a ghost.

Jack panicked for a second and quickly looked up at his demon friend, who was now starting to fade away to ash-like particles.

"A-Anti?!" Jack stuttered as his heartbeat sped up, leaping over and trying to wrap his arms around Anti's thin torso.

To no avail, one of his best friends faded away before his very eyes.

Jack gasped and spun around, staring worriedly at the other egos with wide eyes. They didn't seem to be fazed by this, at all. They didn't seem to care that one of their best friends had just disintegrated into thin air.

"Chase?? Henrik?? Marvin??" Jack breathed quickly, pulling himself over to Marvin.

"Yeah, Jack?" Marvin asked, tilting his head.

"Anti just... He just fucking... He just fucking vanished!! Are you not fazed by this??" He asked his magician friend frantically, reaching his hand out to grab the soft blue fabric that rested loosely on the other's arm.

He breathed a very brief sigh of relief when he could feel flesh, but his stomach quickly dropped again when his fingers went right through the arm of Marvin.

"Marvin! No!!" Jack shouted as Marvin also disappeared, some of the particles floating into Jack's hands.

"Marvin... No..." Tears started to well up in the irishman's eyes, threatening to fall down his face as he squeezed his palms together.

"Jack?" Jackieboy Man tapped his shoulder. Jack quickly spun around on his knees and let out a choked sob.

"Yeah, Jack, are you okay?" Henrik asked from behind him in a concerned tone.

"You both... Anti and Marvin just disappeared! Poof! Into thin fucking air!!" Jack went back and forth between looking at Jackieboy Man and Henrik.

"Please don't cry.. I don't like to see you cry, buddy.." Jackieboy Man reached out his hand as he as well started to fade away into nothingness, the face of concern and sadness never leaving his face.

"He's right. Stay happy." Henrik smiled at Jack. Jack practically leaped over to Henrik and embraced him in a huge, tight hug. Henrik didn't hesitate to hug back, comforting his crying friend, rubbing his back as Jack cried into the fabric of the doctor's shirt.

"Everything's gonna be okay, Sean. Trust me." Henrik whispered as his body started to disappear; Jack's arms giving out in sync with it and making him almost fall onto his face.

"J-Jack?" Chase hesitantly reached out to Jack's shoulder. As Chase's hand made contact, Jack jumped and quickly looked up.

Tears started to violently fall down his red and flushed face as he embraced Chase in the biggest hug he had ever given in his entire lie.

"You're all I have left... You were my literal best friend here.... You were the best friend I've ever had... Please don't leave me...." Jack sobbed into Chase's shoulder. Chase gently ran his fingers over Jack's shoulder as he held Jack in a safe embrace.

"Shhhh, it's okay Jack. I'm here. Chase has got you." The other comforted Jack. "I don't want you to die... I don't want you to die..." Jack's voice raised in pitch as he stained Chase's shirt with his hot and salty tears.

"Jack, listen, listen," Chase lifted Jack's head up and lightly smacked his hands onto his shoulders. "You're okay. I love you. So much. Stay strong for me." He smiled sweetly.

Jack smiled through the tears and rested his body a little bit. "I love you too Chase." He wrapped his arms around Chase once again, softly embracing him this time.

"Goodbye, Jack."

That was the last thing that Jack heard before his absolute best friend, the one he had so much bond with, the one he could trust most, the one he had shared the most tears with, faded away into nothing but ashes and particles.

"No... No... Please... This all has to be a dream.. No! Please god!! This can't be real! Give me my friends back!!" Jack started to breath quickly and heavily as his heartbeat sped up at an alarming rate, shaking and crying in the middle of his bed, gripping onto the bedsheets for dear life.

"I just want my friends back...."

------

"Jack? Jack!!"

Jack heard a familiar voice calling his name, as well as the beeping of a heart monitor. As Jack slowly opened his eyes, he groaned as the morning sun hit his face. There stood his best friend Mark, who looked like he was crying and definitely panicked as hell.

"W-what? What's going on??" He asked, looking around the room.

"Jack! Oh thank fucking God!" Mark embraced Jack. Jack was startled and didn't know what to do. Where was he? Was he in the hospital? Why was Mark there?

"It's a fucking miracle!" Mark announced as he pulled away.

"W-what h-happened....?" Jack stutter as he stared curiously at his dark haired friend, who bit his lip and looked down, twiddling his thumbs. "Well... Uhh..." He stuttered.

"Mark, tell me." Jack said in a stern voice.

"You... You were... In a coma... For two years...," Mark looked up worriedly. "They were gonna take you off of life support today if you didn't wake up..."

Jack gasped in shock and disbelief. "W-what?? I was?? How? Why??? When??" He bit his lip, trying not to have a mental breakdown.

"I don't know! I had to fly here from LA and book a hotel... I ended up convincing the hotel to let me stay for a few months before they kicked me out.. Then I just stayed with Felix. He came here with me a few times, but not today." Mark explained as Jack listened intently. Jack nodded as Mark finished.

"Any idea how I managed to get myself into a coma?"

Mark shook his head. "I think some policemen found you in your car passed out over your steering wheel because you ran into a tree or something, but I'm not too sure." Mark replied, using some hand gestures.

Jack then suddenly remembered.. Them. His best friends. The ones who had been living with him for the past two years. The ones he could trust the most. The ones he shared secrets with... Cried with... Hung out with.. Laughed with...

"WHAT ABOUT CHASE?? MARVIN??? ANTI?? HENRIK??" Jack shouted, suddenly sitting upright and staring desperately at Mark.

Mark tilted his head and pulled the most confused face Jack had ever seen. "Who?"

"My best friends!! My.. My..." Jack took a deep breath. "I loved them.."

Mark's heart sank. Hearing that his friend had best friends that obviously meant a lot to him in his dream, only to have them not be real was heartbreaking.

"J- Sean.... They're... They're not real... I'm so sorry..."
