Ch. 2: Dates and Reunions
Now that Jack didn't have anything else going on, he got to hang out with that cute girl he met earlier, Signe.
"So, that name of ur's, that's not local is it?" Jack asked as they walked along the sidewalk of town outside the city that was full of party-goers.
"It's Danish" she answered.
"Danish? Really?" Jack asked in amusement.
"Yes, I moved here a few years ago for work" she informed.
"Well, you must really love doing art" he said, impressed.
"Definitely" she nodded with a smile. "I also do digital art, and some writing" she added.
"Oh cool, what do you write about?" he asked in intrigue.
"Just, whatever really" she shrugged. "But I've sold a few novels and some other stuff" she added proudly.
"Aw that's cool" he complimented.
"Thanx" she smiled. "What about you? What's been keeping you busy for all this time?" she wondered.
Luckily, Jack had plenty of time to prepare himself for questions like that. And, in a way where he wasn't technically lying. "Uh, mostly I've just been bouncing around from place to place, trying to figure out some stuff" he stated cleverly. "But once that's all over, I'm hoping to take back my position at the Omni hotel"
"And what position is that?" now she was intrigued.
"Manager" he smiled.
"Cool, you get to work and live in a place like that, but I'm sure it's a lot of work" she stated.
"It is, but it's really great and....I guess I just love the responsibility I get and love it a lot" he stated happily.
"Well, that's really great that you have something you enjoy so much" she noted. "What else keeps you busy? Or what are your plans until then?"
"I'm currently working with a friend of mine to try and reopen my family's murder case" he answered.
Signe wasn't expecting that to get brought up this soon, she thought it would take some time before he started talking about that. Either it didn't bother him that much, or it didn't take long for him to warm up to her. "Is this friend a cop?" she figured that would be the best way to go about it.
"Yea, he's the reason I wasn't convicted myself" he nodded.
"Sorry you had to go through that, but it must be great to have a friend like him" she noted.
"Thanx, I hope you don't mind that I suddenly-"
"No no, it's fine" she assured. "I guess I'm....actually a little flattered that you wouldn't mind talking about this with me" she admitted.
"Well, you seem like a good enough person to talk to" he smiled, making her blush.
"Well, I hope you and ur friend find the guy soon" she kindly wished. "Just don't let this take up ur whole life, you need to live a little"
"I know" he giggled, thinking back to cousin Schneep. "That's why I came here tonight" he notably added, increasing the red in her cheeks.
Then, their attention was caught by something in the bar they were passing by. Through the window, they could see the t.v. sitting up behind the bar. It was a news bulletin about Jack's heroic act earlier that day.
"Well, what're the odds?" Signe smirked. Jack turned to her with the same look before both started giggling. "But seriously, how is that?" she kept laughing.
"I don't know, but it's cool" Jack laughed. He then turned to see the look that Signe was giving him. "What?" he asked with a smile, but only received a shrug before she casually started walking down the sidewalk again. "Oh, I know what it is" he smiled as he walked up beside her. "Ur thinking, 'oh what a coincidence that Jacksepticeye arrives right after Sean McLoughlin' right?"
"I didn't say that" she shrugged.
"You didn't have to" he countered, making her laugh again.
"Well answer me this, how did you get both ur legs and ur voice restored?" she questioned curiously.
"The benefits of having a rich benefactor" he quickly answered.
"That doesn't answer the question" she countered, 'damn she's good' Jack thought to himself.
However, he still needed to think of a way to explain without giving himself away. "My buddy Mark, he wanted to help people, thought he could start with me, and gave me a miracle" he stated truthfully.
Signe seemed as if she knew there was more to it then that, but this was enough for now. "I guess you have a neck for meeting good friends" she stated.
"Some of the best" he nodded. "And who knows, maybe I still do" he shrugged casually, smirking at the flattered Danish girl.
Then suddenly, Jack bumped his shoulder into a guy walking in the opposite direction. "Oi, watch where ya going you stupid twat!" the man unnecessarily fired off.
"Relax buddy, he was an accident" Jack shot back before turning to continue walking with his date.
"Hey!" the man grabbed his arm before he could walk off. "I'm not chor buddy, so you better watch yourself before getting embarrassed in front of your girlfriend" he threatened.
Jack raised his eyebrows before glancing to his slightly worried date, only Jack wasn't worried. It actually seemed as if this was amusing to him. He turned back to the idiot before whipping around his arm to free it and grabbed onto the man's colour before yanking him closer. "I think you better check that temper before making a stupid mistake and then seeing what happens" he shot back in all seriousness before releasing his grip. But as soon as he was free, the man just laughed before swinging at Jack, which he swiftly ducked and followed with a hard kick to the rips that brought him down to all fours. "Told you" he mocked and then took Signe's hand to walk again.
"Sorry" he quickly apologized, feeling slightly embarrassed.
"It's ok, I didn't know self-defense was one of the things you picked up along the way" she noted.
"Well, guy's gotta look out for himself" he shrugged.
"Yea, especially the shorties"
"Hey!" he defended and she laughed, Jack couldn't help but giggle himself.
"Oi!" they heard someone shout from behind them and turned to see three other men rushing towards them. "What the hell man?!" the guy in the front shouted, his thumb pointed at the guy was still on the ground.
Jack figured these must've been his buddies. "Easy fellas, he was being stupid and got what he deserved" he attempted to reason.
"What he deserved, ey?" the guy nodded and shot up his eyebrows defiantly. "Well I think you deserve a lesson in manors" he stated as he challengingly stepped closer, his buddies following closely by.
Jack couldn't help but raise an eyebrow and laugh. "You and that dumb shite are one to talk about manors" he mockingly joked.
"Now listen you-"
"Hey hey hey," Signe stepped in to stop the offender. "Just take it easy, there's no need to exacerbate this" she tried to reason.
"Well maybe we can exacerbate something else"
"Hey!"
"No no Sean, Sean" Signe tried to calm him down. "Listen, hey! Just stay back and shut up!" she barked at the jerk, who raised his hands with a cocky smirk. "Don't get yourself hurt just to impress me, ok?" she pleaded.
"Woah, looks like I don't need to" Jack stated while looking over the Danish girl, who followed his gaze to see all three of the other thugs were now either unconscious or rolling and moaning on the floor in pain.
"What the-but, how?" she bulged her eyes in shock. What she didn't know, was in the split second it took her to turn from the ringleader to Jack, he had sped around and knocked the perps out.
"I don't know, all of a sudden they just dropped" Jack covered, but then Signe turned to him with a suspicious look. "What?" he asked, hoping she didn't just catch him.
She grew a suspicious smirk, but then just shrugged. "Let's just go" she said and they started walking again.
"I hope ur night wasn't ruined" Jack apologetically stated.
"No, of course not" she smiled assuringly. "But you could've gotten hurt" she noted.
"I thought you suspected I was a superhero?" Jack smirked, receiving a playful punch to the arm.
"I'm serious" she duely noted.
"Hey, don't worry" he placed a comforting hand on her arm. "I'm a hell of a survivor, lucky's my middle name" he smirked, and somehow she was really comforted by him. She didn't know how or why, but she did. And somehow, she really liked having his hand on her arm. Jack retorted his hand back before things got awkward, and they started walking again. "It's nice to see you care so much" he jokingly smirked, causing her giggle and hide the red in her cheeks.
Half an hour later, Jack walked Signe back to her house. "I had a really great time today" Jack stated as he walked her up the porch.
"So did I, we should do this again some time" she smiled and suggested.
"That would be great" Jack agreed, then there was an awkward silence between the two. "Wow, you have a lot of cactuses" he acknowledged after noticing the plants all around.
"Yea, I....have a bit of an obsession with them" she giggled and he shared her reaction.
"Well, um, you have a... good night"
"You two, and uh, stay safe, or have a safe walk and stay outta trouble" she awkwardly stumbled.
"Ok" he laughed. "I'll uh, call you"
"Sounds good" she gave a thumbs up before smiling, nodding and going inside. "Bye Jack"
"Bye" he waved before she shut the door, smiling and feeling very proud and accomplished from choosing to do this, and happy.

During the night, Schneeplestein woke up to some noises down the hall. It sounded like Jack, it sounded like he was in distress. Schneep went into his room and found Jack having a nightmare. He cautiously shook Jack by the shoulders, which resulted in Jack jumping outta bed and pinning him against the wall. "Jack, it's me, it's me" he tried to calm him as he panted. "Relax my friend, you were just having a nightmare" he assured.
Jack was still panting and had a thin layer of sweat across his head. He took a deep breath and shook his head to regain his composure. "Damnit I, I'm sorry cuz" he sighed as he laid his head on his cousin's shoulder.
"Ssshhh, It's ok Jack, it's alright now" he comforted his poor cousin.

The next morning, Robin came over to Jack and Schneep's apartment. The doctor answered the knock on the door to meet and greet the inspector.
"Why hello my good friend" Schneep smiled. "What brings you here?"
"I'm looking for Jack" he smiled back.
"Ah yes, he will be ecstatic to see you" he nodded as he made way for the inspector to enter the house. "Right dis way please" he instructed as he led Robin to the dining table, where Jack was having breakfast. "Oh Jackieboy, look who's here"
The Irishman peaked up to see his good detective friend. "Woah, you look like shit Jack" Robin noted.
"Had a rough night" he replied with a slight frown, briefly glancing at his cousin, who had the same look.
"Well if this is a bad time-"
"No no, it's fine" Jack assured. "You have any good news?"
"Sort of" he answered. "Uh doc, could you please give us a moment?"
"Of course" he nodded before returning to his office.
Robin stepped closer to the table and met Jack's eyes. "What's up Rob? Why don't you sit down?" Jack requested.
"I'd rather stand, if that's ok" he noted.
"Uh sure, is anything wrong?" Jack furrowed his eyebrows.
Robin seemed hesitant in speaking, opening his mouth and closing it again. "Jack, how long have we been friends?" he asked as he leaned sideways with his hand on the table, confusing his best friend.
"Wha-uh, a real long time" Jack nodded.
"So, you trust me, don't you?" these questions were starting to worry Jack.
"Robin, of course I trust you, what the hell is going on with you man?" he asked back, tryna get to the point.
Robin took a brief sec to figure out how he was gonna approach this. "I wanna ask you something, and all I want is the truth" he stated and Jack continued to furrow his brow as he intently listened.
"Ok, what is it?"
"Are you...... Jacksepticeye?"
Jack had no words, completely frozen at the question. He never expected Robin to catch him, at least not this soon. Of course, he had hoped that he could tell robin, but wasn't sure if he should. But now, it seems he really didn't have a choice. "Yes, I am"
Robin scoffed at the answer, not believing it could be true. "But how?" he sighed.
"While I was in America, me and my friend Mark encountered something called the Matthias stones. They were these glowing rocks from outerspace that turned our weaknesses into something powerful" he stated.
Robin was greatly surprised by the information that was just giving to him, this was a lot to take in. "Wow" was all he could manage. "And I'm guessing your friend Mark is-"
"Yep" Jack nodded, causing him to scoff again. "How did you know?"
"Wasn't really that hard to put two and two together" and that was just legitamely embarrassing.
"Ouch" Jack grimaced in embarrassment.
"Look, Jack-"
"Robin, if ur gonna give me a lecture on how dangerous this is, please don't waste ur time" he cut off.
"Jack, I just care about you man" he noted.
"I know, and I love you fer that" he smirked, robin chuffing a laugh in response. "But you and I have always shared a passion for wanting to help others, right? That's all I'm doing" he stated notably. "And please don't give me the old 'ur not a cop' shite, ok?"
"Jack, you have a gift, and I don't see any problems with you wanting to use them for good" Robin assured. "In fact, I would mostly prefer you use it this way, rather then another way"
"Amen" Jack agreed.
"But you should know, not everybody feels the same way" he duely noted.
"Not everybody has to, that's not gonna stop me though" he shrugged and stated clearly.
"Just please be careful, ok?" he pleaded.
"Always am" he nodded. "And thankyou by the way, for being so understanding"
"Of course" he patted Jack on the shoulder. "It's what friends are for right?" he asked and Jack laughed under his breath. "Besides, who am I to complain after you saved my witness, my case and let alone my ass yesterday" he added, making Jack laugh again.
"Speaking of yesterday" Jack noted.
"Yes, I also came here to see if you wanted you to come down to the station so we could continue our little talk" he stated.
"Sounds great, as soon as I'm done"

As soon as Jack was done eating, he and Robin returned to his office at the plaza to continue their own investigation. "Miss Panabaker's attorney didn't seem too thrilled, but Panabaker herself was more then willing to give it a go when she discovered someone believed her" Robin informed as Jack sat at the desk and listened. "This'll buy us some time and some others are willing to let us work out our theory, but I'm afraid we'll need more if we're gonna set her free" he importantly stated.
"What happens if we don't support enough evidence in time?" Jack asked.
"Best case scenario, her lawyer convinces her to plea insanity, and worst case, she gets sentenced to death" he answered.
"And how long do we have?"
"Her arraignment is in two weeks" he informed. "Until then, she won't get bail and anything afterwards is going to be very difficult" he added.
"Well, then we better get started" Jack declared and Robin agreed.
"Which leads us to the other thing I wanted to show you" he sat behind his desk and began drawing out notes. "This is some of the stuff you left here for me" he displayed the notes out on the desk. "Remember when I mentioned that all the people we believed were targeted by this.... Antiseptic, as you've mentioned, were all like these really great, well known people?" he checked and Jack nodded. "Well, I looked into the friends, relatives, and acquaintances of three of these people, and they all started having some weird behavioral traits at some point or another shortly after these other incidents" he stated informally, catching him by surprise. "It's like....like he's spreading himself around, like a virus"
Jack took a minute to process all of this, it was certainly more then he expected. But then, a thought popped up into his head. "The guy that told me about Anti said that he feeds off the fear and hatred of others" Jack noted. "Maybe when he messed with these people, that shook all of the others up to a point-"
"That opened a door and allowed for him to enter and mess with them too" he finished with a nod.
"Well someone's been watching a lot of sci-fi horror stuff" Jack raised his eyebrows in amusement.
"Yea, I try" he scoffed. "But sadly, that's about all we have now" he added regrettably.
"Maybe not" Jack countered, hopeful. "All of this is definitely adding up to something. If we can find out what it is he's up to, we'll find him" Jack stated eagerly and hopefully.
"Ok, but then what?" Robin countered. "You try to get him to confess? Testify on the victim's behalf and then take him down?" Jack couldn't deny he had a solid point. "What're you planning to do when you catch that thing?"
Jack let out a heavy sigh before responding. "I don't know, I haven't really planned that far ahead" he admitted. "Tell you the truth, I don't even know how the hell I'm gonna stop him. But I'll figure something out" he noted promisingly.
"Are you sure?" he furrowed his brow.
"I hafta try" Jack nodded.
They were silent for a moment before Robin's phone started ringing. "Hello?" he answered, and after a moment, "Ok, thanx" and then hung up the phone. "Until we do figure that all out, do you think you could help me out with something else? Kinda like you did yesterday?" he asked, almost too shy to do so.
"Yea sure, anything" Jack assured.

This was the deal: after Jack's heroics yesterday, this guy pulled off a big bank robbery all by himself. He wore an orange windbreaker hoodie with black tackle windbreaker jeans, some kinda helmet and rode on a motorcycle. From what the witnesses said, he was carrying two katana swords, handmade bombs, and a bunch of fancy gadgets. And from what Robin told Jack, it seemed that this robber was just playing games with the cops. He actually let the cops chase him around for a short while, then suddenly just dropped the bags of money, sped away from the police and disappeared.
Nobody knew who this was or what was his deal, but he certainly proved that it would take more then anyone ordinary to catch him, and Jack was beyond ordinary. Now it was nighttime, around the same time as when the guy appeared last night, and Jack was now charging and swinging across the rooftops of the city in search. He scanned across the streets and waited for any sign of the perpetrator to appear. He also had a comm device to keep in touch with Robin while on patrol. It has been nearly an hour since Jack suited up and went on patrol, and nothing has happened yet.
Thay was until, "Jack? Jack, do you read me?" Robin asked on the comm.
"Yea, what's up? We got action?" he asked back.
"Yes, he just robbed a diamond exchange and is headed down Kingsman Grove"
That was all Jack needed. Just like that, he hopped off the edge and started swinging away. As he got closer to his destination, he started hearing the sounds of sirens and a motorcycle rushing through the nearly empty streets. Jack swooped in around the corner and inadvertently swung over the robber on the bike. However, the rider saw Jack swing over him and slid his bike to a halt. Jack caught notice of this and landed on the street as cop cars stopped to create a perimeter. Then, cop cars on the other side of the street, behind the robber, did the same thing.
The officers stayed behind the cars with their guns up and ready as Jack stood on the street, staring at the villain on the bike, who seemed to have his full attention on Jack. The Irishman couldn't get a good look at his face, because under that helmet he had tactical goggles over his eyes and a rag covering his nose and mouth. For a moment, all he did was sit there and stare at the superhero. But then, the guy on the bike tossed the bag of diamons over at the cops and turned his bike straight towards Jack. This gave Jack the idea that these robberies were just a way to draw him out, and now he had him.
The offender started pumping the throttle on his bike, challenging the savior and letting him know that he meant business, and his business was strictly with him. "Alright, bring it on ghost rider" he gestured with his fingers for him to come on down. The rider needed no further invitation to start charging right at his target. As he sped, he raised his left arm, that was carrying some type of machine gun strapped to it, and started firing at Jack. The Septiceye used his super speed to dodge the bullets while charging towards the assailant.
Jack ran up the bike and delivered a kick that knocked the assailant off before flipping back and landing right on his feet as the bike stumbled over. "Wow, that was easy" Jack noted, amazed that was all it took. But then, the attacker rolled over and Jack saw something in his hand, some kinda remote by the looks of it. He pushed the the little red button on it and caused the bike to explode right behind Jack, knocking him down. Then, as Jack tried to regain his composure, his attacker jumped back to his feet and had the gun strapped to his arm pointed right at his head.
Luckily, Robin got a shot a shot off at him before he could fire. The bullet didn't really seem to affect the attacker, but it did get him to spin around and fire back at the police cars. Jack capitalized on the distraction by jumping back up to his feet, shooting webs at the back of his legs and yanked him off balance. Now grounded, the shooter rolled to where he had Jack in his sights and fired again. Jack sped up the building next to them to avoid the shots.
The attacker then shot a grappling hook at the building across from it to pull himself away. The fancy gloves he was wearing allowed for him to quickly climb up the rest of the way. He got over the edge as the cops began shooting, maybe a few of the bullets hitting him, but there was no way to tell. The robber started running, jumping and hooking his way around the other buildings to get away. That was until Jack swung in.
"Where you going? This is just getting fun" Jack noted, only for the attacker to raise his gun and start shooting again. Jack slid under the ray of bullets and tripped over the gun shooting them. He then jumped to his feet in time to catch the guy's arm and rip off his weapon. The villain retaliated by delivering a sidekick to Jack's gut and a straight right punch right to the face. This guy must've had some sort of physical prowess to him because he was moving faster and hitting harder then a regular guy could.
After stumbling back, Jack just then noticed how small this guy actually was. He wasn't like a dwarf's size or anything, but barely even Jack's height. But it didn't matter, because what this guy lacked in size, he made up for in skill. Jack was able to block the next blows that followed and counter with his own, but that's when the guy took out one of his swords and threw it right at him. Jack used his speed and agility to kick the sharp weapon right back at him, catching him in the shoulder.
However, the attacker just yanked the sword right back out, completely unphased. Then, Jack could see the stab wound close right back up in an instant. "Holy shite balls" he gasped. Then, the attacker took out his other sword and started swinging at Jack like a ninja. Jack had to be pretty damn quick to avoid the attacks, but was able to swiftly avoid the last ones while jumping into a spinning roundhouse, knocking the robber down and everything on his head off.
Jack was about to capitalize on his attack, until his assailant rolled over with his face revealed and gun pointed at him. However, it wasn't the gun that had Jack's attention, it was the face he thought he'd never see.
"Billy?!"
"Haha, hi ya Jack"
BANG!
