M'lord

Jack blinked many times to allow his eyes time to adjust to the blinding light. He attempted to sit up, only to be halted by a strong fabric holding him down. Hearing a deep sigh, Jack glanced over to see Caleb in a lean white bed, covered in clean white sheets, held down by clean white fabric ties, with clean white cloth covering his wounds. Ok, the cloth wasn't clean, it had a bit of dark crimson soaked through it, but it looked mighty clean to Jack's tired eyes.

Carefully toying with his own straps, Jack managed to free himself, not that it did any good. He couldn't go anywhere with that wrecked leg of his, my leg Jack thought suddenly, removing the warm sheets to get a good view of his stub. It was wrapped in soft fabric, and connected somehow to a small chunk of wood. Jack stared at this contraption confused, before realizing he felt someone watching him. Quickly he turned to see John, Peter, and a couple other of his pals grinning wildly at him.

"Go on," Peter urged, rushing beside Jack, "try it out."

Doubtfully Jack placed his foot down and, taking a deep breath, put his other leg out. The hard plank of wood touched the floor and jack uncertainly stood, grabbing Peter for support. Slowly Jack moved, stumbling a few times, around the room and over to Caleb's bed. He rested his hand on Caleb's hot fevered forehead and smiled, realizing that Caleb wasn't half as bad as he could be, especially considering he could be dead.

"Where is he, where is the fighter, I must meet him." A booming voice rang out, as a large, husky man surged into the room.

"Here he is m'lord," John called out with a grin to the approaching man, giving Jack a hard slap on the back. The smiling man, dressed in finery, approached Jack quickly and gave him a hearty pat on the shoulder.

"Well, my boy, how are you enjoying your new leg?" The royal asked.

"Very fine..." Jack started, then realizing that this man would have to be a duke or something of the sort quickly added, "you highness."

The man's grin enlarged until it looked like it would pop right off the friendly man's face.

"I am King George," The man introduced himself, laughing at Jack's shocked face.

"But- wha- how- when?" Jack stuttered. The pleasant monarch chuckled, giving Jack another hard pat on the shoulder, before dragging the still shocked guest to the near-by dining room. Jack sat down, and with the king chuckling at him, realized his mouth was still gaping open. Jack shut it quickly and found an interesting thing to look at on the floor.

"Sit down my friends!" King George beckoned Jack's excited comrades to the table, they were leading a very confused Caleb.

"Sit and dine with me." The hearty voice commanded. Peter sat next to Jack giving him a quick wink.

Halfway through the meal, Jack couldn't help it anymore, he blurted out his question:

"What happened, I mean, how did we get hear?" Jack quickly turned red when all eyes averted to him, but the king waved off the rude interruption with a good-natured laugh. Then, eyes shining like that of a child hearing his favourite story, the king explained. He explained how Jack's freed friends came to him for help, and how much he had always wanted to take King Richard down. With excited waving of his arms, the king explained how, since they were once slaves, Jack's friends knew every inch of the castle, and had drawn a map for the king. He continued to tell how his men had snuck in as servants, changed into their armour, and, following Peter, snuck right in to the castle through one of the many, less used servants' stairways. Dramatically acting it out, causing Jack to grin wildly, the king continued the story of sneaking around the castle and capturing it without even an attack. Sitting back down the king ended the tale with the death of King Richard and how he, King George, was crowned king of that land two days ago.

"Of course you didn't know that, because you were asleep for little more than a week." The king smiled. Jack's eyebrows shot up,

"A whole week?"

"More.' Peter confirmed, nodding his head up and down. Jack just shook his head in disbelief, though it would explain way, for the first time he could remember, he wasn't exhausted.
