Chapter 6: Lolo General

With another school day already ended, what was on Ador's mind was a visit to his grandfather, a retired general and veteran of the Philippine Armed Forces, "Pinuno" Lito Lapid. His guardian P/Maj. Martin was waiting for him, so he can drop him off at Pinuno's house. As Ador was going to his car, he saw Elijah and Daniela getting picked up by their father, who is also a police officer himself, but saw that his shoulder rank was higher than Coco's rank.

Coco: siya ang boss ko, si Police Chief Col. Baron Geisler

Baron Geisler - The Superior Officer

Me: your boss? Wow, strict siya

Coco: oo, pero fair siya

Me: look, there's that girl again

Ador said as he spotted Daniela.

Coco: may problema siya sa'yo? (does she have a problem with you?)

Ador: wala, annoying siya (nothing, she's just annoying)

Coco: sige tara na (okay, let's go)

The two got in Coco's bulletproof Hummer truck and drove off to General Lapid's place. With the long trip ahead, Ador used this time to call on Ivana.

Ivana: uy Ador, kumusta? (hey Ador, how are you?)

Ador: mabuti naman ganda, ikaw? (I'm okay beautiful, how about you?)

Coco had a teasing smirk on his face as he can't help but listen in.

Ivana: ito, okay ko lang, may video recording for YouTube (I'm okay too, I'm going to record a new video for YouTube)

Ador: oh wow, subscribe ako sa channel mo, I'll be watching

Ivana: salamat Ador, mag plano ka sa Friday? (thank you Ador, do you have plans on Friday?)

Ador: may test ako (I have a test) that's it lang

Ivana: oh sige, punta ka sa bahay ko, luto ako ng dinner (oh okay, come to my house, I'm gonna cook dinner)

Ador: sa bahay mo? (your house?)

Ivana: oo (yes)

Ador smirked as he took the chance to tease Ivana.

Ador: it's a dinner date

Ivana blushed, but she knew that Ador was right.

Ivana: oo dinner date to, sige see you soon

Ador: sige bebe (okay babe)

Ivana: huh? Ano? (huh what?)

Ador's eyes widen as he realized what he said while Ivana blushed, but on the inside, she was really hoping someone would call her that.

Ador: uhh wala yan! Sige, kita tayo sa Friday (uhh, it's nothing. Okay, we'll see each other on Friday)

Ivana: sige ingat ka (okay, take care)

Coco: astig ka, sir (you're so cool, sir)

Ador: hindi siya jowa ko, sir (she's not my girlfriend, sir)

Coco: hindi pa (not yet)

(Time skip)

The two pulled up to Lito's place and his business, which was a shooting range, located a few miles from Quezon City. They then got out of the Hummer and went inside to see Pinuno himself.

Ador: lolo! (grandpa!)

Lito: uy! Apo ko, kumusta! (hey, it's my grandson! How are you?)

Ador: okay lang po, lolo. Kilala mo si Maj. Martin? (I'm okay grandpa. Do you remember Maj. Martin?)

Coco then saluted to the veteran.

Coco: sir

Lito nodded and saluted back.

Lito: oo kilala siya. Bodyguard mo, apo

Ador: busy ka po, lolo? (are you busy, grandpa?)

Lito: may isang customer ako dito sa shooting range (I only have one customer here in the shooting range)

Ador: can you teach me how to use a gun?

Lito: oh, yan lang? (just that?) mabuti naman, especially ikaw ang anak ng tatay mo ng mayor (good thing, especially since you're the son of the mayor)

Ador: opo, alam ko (yes, I know)

Lito: pero, I can't let you just shoot, I have to teach you how to hold and aim

Ador: sige po, lolo (okay grandpa)

Lito: sige (okay)

Lito led Ador and Coco to the shooting area outside, where there was a setup of fruits and old tin cans. The veteran got an assault rifle, shotgun, a pistol and the iconic .357 magnum revolver.

Lito: sige apo, nanood ka sa akin (okay grandson, watch me)

Ador watched closely as his grandpa tossed and spun his revolver in the air, putting it back in the holster, then spun it again before shooting all six rounds to destroy the fruit.

Ador: galing mo! Lolo! (you're good, grandpa)

Lito: oo, pero kita mo ang porma ko (yes, but pay attention to my stance)

The mayor's son paid attention and learned that he must keep his body straight and stiff if he is gonna fire a single round and took mental notes, such as that the force of a fired gun will knock him back if he is not standing properly.

Lito: kita mo to, apo (look at this, grandson)

Lito fired a round from his pistol to knock a can down, but used his quick reflexes to keep the can in midair from the bullets. Ador was at awe of his grandfather's sharpshooting skills.

Ador: wow!

Then Ador saw Lito's unique way of reloading his pistol by pulling it back using the heel of his boot.

Lito: sige apo, ikaw na (okay grandson, it's your turn)

Ador nodded nervously, but got a pat on the back from his guardian. Wanting to start off small and easy, Ador went for the pistol first. Remembering the stance lesson from his grandpa, Ador kept his boy straight and firm and aimed the pistol at the can.

Lito: sige apo, putok mo na (okay grandson, go ahead and shoot)

Ador breathed deep and slowly pulled the trigger, making the gun fire the bullet, but missed the can.

Lito: focus apo! Keep your eye on the target

Coco: kaya mo yan (you can do it)

Ador took a deep breath as he kept his body firm and straight, his gun straight and his eyes on the can. He then fired another bullet and managed to knock the can down.

Lito: yan! (there you go)

Coco: ubos mo yun bala (finish your bullets)

Ador fired the rest of his magazine knocking the cans and destroying the melons. Lito and Coco were impressed of Ador's progress.

Lito: galing mo apo, oh reload ka (you're good, but reload your weapon)

Ador: ah sige po (ah okay)

He took out his empty magazine and put in a new one, but he couldn't do the trick with the heel of his shoe.

Lito: ah, yung sapatos mo, hindi tigas yung material like my boots (your shoes are not made of the same material)

Ador: ah okay po

Lito: pero magaling ka sa first try mo (but you did well for your first try)

Ador: salamat po, lolo (thank you grandpa)

Lito: magtime ka, pwede ka pumunta dito, so I can teach you (if you have time, you can come over anytime)

Ador: salamat po ulit (thank you again, grandpa)

Lito: ingat ka, apo. Sabihin mo sa tatay mo yung regards ko (take care grandson. Tell your dad I said hi)

Ador nodded and saluted his grandfather before leaving the range with Coco as they head back to Manila.

(Time skip)

As Ador was studying for his upcoming exam, his mayoral father came in.

Albert: anak, I heard you went to your lolo general

Ador: opo tay, sabi siya hi daw (yes dad, he said hi)

Albert: mabuti na ka marunong gamitin ang baril (it's good that you are learning how to use a gun)

Ador: opo tay, pero protection yan (yes dad, but only for protection)

Albert: I know Maj. Martin is looking out for you, but he can't be on your guard 24/7. It's best that I will enroll you in self defense classes

Ador: talaga po, tay? (really dad?)

Albert: yes, pero you can still spend time with your lolo general and improve your marksmanship, but you will also need to learn to defend yourself in case your gun runs out of ammo

Ador: sige po, salamat tay. Oh, pero sa Friday, punta ako sa... bahay ng kaibigan ko (but on Friday, I'll be going to my friend's house)

Albert: may test ka, diba? (you have a test, right?)

Ador: yes, but my visit will be after. And it's during dinner

Albert: mmhh, dinner date?

Ador: dad

Albert: I'm just playing around, son. You go have fun and take care, hmm?

Ador: opo tay (yes dad)

The mayor nodded and left his son alone to study. Ador was now feeling a lot more confident as he is excited for his upcoming dinner date at the house of Ivana Alawi this coming Friday.
