Ellie

{2 weeks later}
Nate revved at the stopping lights, the Jeep growling beautifully at the command. I placed my hand over Nate's hand, which was lazily placed on my bare knee. The weather seriously did not compliment my attire today, I thought, as a cold breeze slipped through the window and grazed my bare skin. I shivered at the shy touch of coldness and clutched my upper body tightly.
"Cold?" Nate glanced at me quickly just before the lights turned green. He sped away, quickly creating a far distance with the cars behind him. I leaned over and put on the radiator.
"I'll get by." I assured him but I could tell he wasn't having it. I saw him shake his head and before I could stop him, he managed to shrug out of his sweater and throw it my way - whilst driving.
"I swear if you do that again, I'll hurt you real bad." I warned as my initial shock wore off. Nate merely chuckled before he nudged me with his knuckles.
"Put it on babe."
I rolled my eyes but threw the sweater over my head regardless. The warmth that still lingered from Nate's body heat engulfed me quicker than I anticipated. I rolled the sleeves down so my hands were fully covered and ducked my head inside the long neck, closing my eyes slowly.
"You look cozy."
I peeked through one open eye at him, and saw he was smiling. But his eyes were still on the road.
"Thank you," I whispered at him, a fluttering feeling swimming in my stomach when his eyes locked with mine. I once again found myself lost in the blueness of it, the beauty it held and masked. Beauty only he lets me see.
I flushed when a smirk appeared on his face. He knew the effect he had on me.
"So, we're going to pick up my cousin from the hotel- you sure they are there?"
Nate nodded his head and took a sharp U-turn. I fell into the door and looked over to him incredulously. "Warn a girl next time!"
Nate just chuckled and came to an abrupt stop in front of a tall building. I'm guessing it's the hotel his father, Ghost and himself were currently staying at. Ever since the release of his father two weeks ago because of an anonymous tip, Nate has been on the high tail to find a house for all three of them. And I could tell it was wearing him off. But I also knew he found a respectable deal on one house downtown and it looked like he would take it.
"To answer your previous question, they are here." He nodded over my head and I saw three people come out the hotel room.
I could spot the familiar mop of dirty blonde hair anywhere. Cole Dawson.
I practically jumped out the car, nearly forgetting to put off my seatbelt. I ran over to him and he was ready with his arms spread wide open. "Ellie!" He greeted and hugged me tightly.
"I'm so happy to see you!" I screamed, pulling away and kissing him on the cheek loudly. I heard a scoff come from behind us and I glanced over my shoulder and spotted his two companions. Riley and Elliot.
Cole dragged my face back to him. "I need some quality cousin time before you go to them dark-heads over there." He motioned behind him with his head before he hugged me again. I laughed against his neck and squeezed his tightly.
"Flowers, have I missed you."
Cole scoffed and pulled back. "You need to visit often."
I rolled my eyes at his usual reply and patted his chest softly. "I think I'll go greet the darkheads now." I moved out of Cole's arms and when over to Riley and Elliot. Elliot was his usual quiet self and I shot him a quick smile before hugging Riley. Her hands snaked around my back instantly and I smiled against her brown hair.
"Hey flowers.," I greeted when I leaned back. "You look amazing per usual."
Riley looked at me with feign annoyance. "Say that when I look like you."
I laughed at her comment before walking over to Elliot. I pushed myself up to my toes and kissed him lightly on the cheek. Elliot didn't expect the sudden close promixity and by accident he moved, causing the end of his lips to graze mine. I pulled back sharply, embarrassed at the awkward turn of events. But before I could apologize, I was pulled back by my arm sharply.
"Back off."
I saw Elliot's eyebrows raise upwards, as he stared blankly at the someone behind me. I narrowed my eyes before spinning around. "It was an accident and it was my fault."
Nate looked down at me and I saw the pure anger in his eyes. Oh my Flowers.
"Nate." I warned, pushing him back by the chest. "Accident. My. Fault." I punctuated each word to make sure it was drilled deeply in his head.
"I'm sure it was an accident." Cole scoffed, coming to stand next to a stilled Riley. She looked too calm and far too still for my liking as I awkwardly shifted on my feet.
Flowers, what have I done?
Someone laughed. For a second I thought it was me but it wasn't. I would know if I was laughing. I looked at Nate but his mouth was shut in a tight line. He did not look like in a laughing mood. I turned my head and glanced at Cole. He wasn't laughing either and he looked as confused as me.
"He's so pathetic." Someone breathed out over their laughter and all three of us turned around to see who was laughing.
Elliot?
"Dude... are you okay?" Cole questioned his friend slowly.
Elliot chuckled slughtly before answering. "Nate, you need to chill."
Nate raised both his eyebrows and opened his mouth to speak but a loud horn cut him short.
We all snapped our head back to the main road and I spotted Shar's car pull up. "Yo." He greeted us all when he stepped out. He came to stand next to me and snaked a hand around my waist.
Even though Nate knew who Shar was to me, I couldn't help but laugh when Nate slowly pulled me away from him.
"You guys are always itching over to friends with benifits." Cole commented, jutting his chin towards Shar. Shar just rolled his eyes and shoved his now empty hands in his pockets.
"I've got a date today." Shar dropped the bomb. No one was ready.
"Oh my flowers!" I screeched, both my hands flying to my mouth.
"With that Valerie girl?" Cole asked nonchalantely.
Shar glanced at Cole through the side of his eyes. "How the fuck do you know?"
Cole just smirked and crossed his hands across his chest. "We used to be the best of friends Shar. What happened to that?"
"You don't even visit anymore."
Cole scoffed. "I think it's safe to say you guys made new friends - boyfriends and girlfriends we're talking about right now."
Shar nearly chocked on empty air. "Valerie isn't my girlfriend."
"Nearly." I pointed out with a look.
Shar looked down at me. "No really, it's strictly friends with benefits with her. I mean she's-"
"White?" Cole asked with feign confusion.
Shar's eyes cut to Cole's, a dark look appearing on his face. "Her parents think like that. Not me."
"Then what is stopping you?"Cole asked slowly.
Shar just shrugged, not giving an answer to that. But we all knew. He was pinning for a girl he would never get.
"Andy is with Jon, Shar. Stop-" Nate started to say in a low voice but Shar interjected him sharply.
"I never mentioned her name so stop fucking assuming shit." Shar growled out before storming away. We watched him silently get back in his car and race away.
Talk about sudden exit.
"I fear for his health." Cole commented before turning around and walking back into the hotel lobby.
I closed my eyes, praying that Shar didn't do anything stupid. He drove away before I could tell him that.
"You shouldn't worry too much about him." Nate said in my ear, pulling me closer to him. "And you certainly shouldn't worry if he will ever get over Andy."
I pulled my head back and narrowed my eyes at him. "How did you know I would think about that next?"
Nate just smiled at me, not giving me an answer. I didn't think I wanted one right now. I felt something on my back and before I could comphrend what it was I felt a hand flat on my ass, followed by a small pinch.
I screeched, squirming away only to slam into Nate's hard body. I saw the naughty glint in his eye and, flowers behold, was I going to give him a good one.
"What was that for?" I asked him, making a note that his hand was still on my ass.
"Remember that day I woke up in your bed and you put your hand on my-"
"I know I know! But that happened years ago?"
Nate chuckled at my quick reply. I really did not want to hear the word. Really didn't.

We all stepped out the front lobby, laughing simultaneously at something Nate's Father said. His stories when he was behind bars were both amazing and scary, with all the unresolved conflict between each criminal. He never stopped talking about one inmate, someone named Link Dane.
Even though he was seriously young, Nate's Father swore upon himself that he could hold his ground against any group of men. It was his unmistaken glares and his cold aura's that kept every man away.
Riley and Elliot lingered behind - I could swear that there was something going on between them - and Cole snaked himself between Nate and I, much to Nate's annoyance. But he didn't care and he went so far as to put a hand over my shoulder and steer me completely away from Nate. I wanted to laugh at the deliberate torture Cole was putting Nate through and to my only entertainment, I let Cole do whatever.
But the sound of a car pulling up stop us all mid way. I turned my head slowly, dread already dropping inside my stomach.
I knew who came.
I knew who was stupidly brave enough to show his face around me, let alone around Nate. I knew who was trying to make amends. I bloody knew who it was.
My Father.
I involunatry shivered when I saw him step out his car, with his dark tailored blazer and dark dress pants. It looked like he aged twenty years over the past few weeks and I nearly felt sorry for him. Nearly.
But then everything that he did to me and my Mother replayed back in my head and I know how much he deserved the hardship he was going through. Someone that conflicted emotional abuse on his only daughter and his wife will always be deemed as a low demeaning person in my eyes. He by far passed the pathetic excuse of a father.
I heard Cole usher Riley and Elliot, back into the lobby but I knew he was still lingered behind us. He wanted to say a few words. After all, his beloved uncle had it coming for years.
"Cole." My Father nodded his head over my shoulder but I didn't have to haveeyes on my back to know Cole was less than pleased to see his uncle.
"Uncle." Cole said back, more colder and empty.
Something flashed behind his eyes but he recovered it quickly. He focused on Nate, who itched closer to stand next to me, almost acting like a barrier when I realised he was angled so he was in front of me. My heart warmed at the little gesture and even more so when I knew it was intentionally.
"What do you want Father?" I asked through gritted teeth, not letting myself get side-tracked by the little act Nate was pulling.
"I came to see-"
"Nobody." Nate interjected, titling is head slightly as he eyed my father coldly. I stayed silent, hoping he would get the message. No one wanted to see him. Ever.
"Ellie-" He started to say, taking a step towards me. His steps wavered when Nate suddenly stepped in front of me, pushing me behind him.
My Father narrowed his eyes at Nate, a scornful expression plastered on his parched face. "Ellie how can you degrade yourself to such a poor level and allow yourself to be seen with someone as poor as the next person at-"
He scowled at my Father, his hands clenched by his side. "Leave." He growled out.
"Now excuse me, I don't listen to someone who is as worthless as you," my vision blurred at the harsh words my Father spat at Nate. But he wasn't done. "Ellie, no rich girl like you can be with a poor boy like him. He'll use you. He only wants you for your money. Don't you remember how he treated you after the fire? He doesn't want you sweetie, he wants your money to get a house and then he'll drop you just like he had it planned."
"Leave!" Nate roared and it even scared me. I looked over to my Father and saw the retreat on his face. He let out one long sigh, his jaw twitching as he shook his head.
"Ellie, don't do this sweetheart. You can always come back to me and we'll forget this happened. We'll both forget about this boy," he managed to throw in that last bit before he turned on his feet and got back in his car.
"I'm so sorry." I choked out and quickly looked up at Nate, not fighting the tears this time. He just shook his head, too angrily to speak and pushed my face into his chest. I sobbed against his shirt, clutching the front of it tightly.
I couldn't explain what I was feeling but I knew what I was thinking. This world is filled with cruel people that don't understand that love has no barriers and boundaries.
"I'm so sorry." I repeated over my sob but Nate just hushed my with no reply.
I knew Cole went back inside since it was eerily quiet around us. It was only us two.
"He's not okay, please Nate, please don't take anything he said to heart." I said, pulling my head back to assure Nate with my eyes. But he wasn't looking at me. He was staring ahead, his face in a tight knot. I felt his fingers slowly leave my waist and a dark, sinking feeling came to me.
No no no.
"No." I whispered, feeling the complete loss of his hands on me. He took a small step back, still not looking at me.
"Nate, no." I said more loudly. I gripped the front of his face with my hands, forcing him to look at me. But he was already far gone, the moment already taken it's toll.
"Nate." I repeated through a hiss, shaking his head roughly. But it did no good.
I nearly shivered when his usual warm eyes locked on mine. It was ice cold this time.
"I fucked up again," he whispered softly.
If I knew what he meant that second I would have known what to say, or do. I would have done anything to make sure he knew. But I didn't.
I stared, frozen all over as he slowly slipped from my grip and retreated. Retreated back to what he thought was his only way of life.
"No rich girl with a poor boy, Ellie. Makes perfect sense."
I chocked on dry air, my hand covering my mouth as my whole body spazzed. But I didn't move, nor did I stop him as he got in his car and sped away.
I don't know how long I stood there on the spot, staring at the empty parking space Nate's Jeep was moments ago.
All I could think about was how quickly it all happened. How it came out of thin air. One second we were happy... The next we were...?
A tear leaked out my dry eyes as my heart clenched inside my body tightly. I couldn't think about that word again.
We simply couldn't be...
No...
He promised he would never leave me.
I felt a hand snake around me as Cole's cologne hit my nose. He pushed my head into his neck, running his hand through my hair.
The confusion that was sailing around me suddenly turned to boiled fury.
He broke his promise again.
I closed my eyes, "oh flowers." I whispered, letting myself take in the fact that we were officially done.
