Chapter 8
TW: Arguing/yelling, crying
A bit over an hour had passed and the four teens tried to act as if nothing was happening. Patton had insisted on making lunch, so he and Logan had left to get some stuff to make lunch. They had all agreed not to be on their own, after all. Damien was on the sofa cuddling Roman and Virgil sat on the floor as they all watched TV.
The front door opened and then slammed shut, making the three boys jump.
"Remus, he was right!" Remy said over Emile, who tried to make sure they didn't jump at the other's throats.
"He wasn't! He had no right to kick me out of the class over something as stupid as that!" Remus shouted, making both Virgil and Damien whimper. The brothers hated loud noises and yelling. "It was an exam! He didn't even need to look at me!"
"Remus, it's against the school policy!" Remy shouted back. "Just take off that stupid beanie, do the exam and then put it back on! Why are you even wearing that?!" Damien curled up to Roman and Virgil sunk into the sofa.
Roman frowned and stood up after running a hand through Damien's hair. "What's going on?" he called, loud enough to be heard but not too loud to avoid triggering the Sanders brothers.
"Remus is an idiotic asshole and got kicked out of the exam for not taking off the beanie he is wearing," Remy said. "And, in my opinion, he deserved it."
"No one asked for your opinion, you rat," Remus hissed angrily, walking to the living room and sitting on the empty sofa. He pulled the beanie down, making it cover most of his forehead as well.
Roman looked at him and frowned. "Em, could you please take Remy to a different area? I want to talk to Remus," he said, glancing at Emile, who grabbed Remy's wrist and dragged him away without a word. He, then, turned to his brother. "Remus...? Why are you wearing that beanie?" he asked softly. He knew Remus, just like Damien, and Virgil reacted better to compassion and good stimuli than attacks.
Remus shrugged, looking away. "I like it..." he said quietly. Roman frowned. There was no way that was true.
"Remus... that's Damien's beanie," he said. "I know because he fell in love with it and his parents wouldn't let him buy it, so I got it for him and hid it here so they wouldn't see it." He glanced at Damien, who blushed slightly and smiled.
Remus looked at him, frowning slightly. "Your point?" he asked rudely. Roman rolled his eyes. "I want to wear it. Who's going to stop me? You?"
"Remus, listen to me, for fuck's sake!" Roman suddenly shouted, making the three others tense up. "You love showing off your hair. You are disgusting. But you are my brother. My flesh and blood. I know you better than anyone else," he said, sitting next to Remus. "So, tell me, why are you wearing that?" His tone had shifted to the gentlest he could manage.
Remus bit his lip and tears welled up in his eyes. The other three frowned. They had never seen Remus tear up, not even when Roman 'accidentally' threw a rock at him and hit his head... which ended with them and their parents in the hospital panicking while Remus just laughed at how cool that'd been. But he loved his hair. It was his pride and joy... and it was ruined now.
"Remus...?" Roman pulled him into a hug. "It's okay, whatever's underneath won't make you stop being the trash rat you are." He smiled lightly, pulling back. "I promise."
Remus sniffled. "Really?" he asked quietly. Roman smiled encouragingly and nodded. Remus bit his lip and slowly took off the beanie.
His fluffy dark brown hair was pushed back to avoid having it peak out of the beanie. His fringe had something different to it... there a grey/white streak of hair on it.
"Oh..." Roman said in shock. He expected Remus to have shaved his head or something. "Well... there- there are solutions for that... you can dye it back." He smiled, trying to hide his shock.
Virgil tilted his head and smiled lightly. "You don't have to, though," he said. "I think it looks cool... it gives you some edginess." He smiled, watching as Remus' face lit up. "You look cool, Remus." Roman hugged his brother as Virgil spoke.
"Really?" he asked, still not too convinced about it. Virgil and Roman nodded eagerly.
"Yes! You look good, Rem." Roman smiled. He broke the hug and turned, frowning. "Virgil?" he asked, looking at him. Virgil hummed in response. "Where's Dee?"
