Chapter 4
Damien smiled happily as he turned the hallway lights on. He turned to Logan, who was the last one to walk inside. "Lo," he said. "Take the keys and close the door. But do not lock it under any circumstances. We don't know what will happen or if we'll have to run out of here." He noticed Emile and Patton tense up slightly. He knew they hated everything paranormal-related. But Damien wanted to have that experience with all of his friends. He was being selfish and he knew that, but he was going to get the most out of a chance to ghost hunt none other than the mythic Jason Dean.
Logan did as told. "I still think this is the worst idea anyone has ever had in modern history," he muttered, turning to Damien. "If something happens to any of us because of your stupidly reckless idea, it will be on you." Damien rolled his eyes and Logan sighed.
"I thought ghosts weren't real, Mr. Skeptical." Roman smirked. Taking Damien's hand, he walked over to their lockers. Logan went to argue, but Roman spoke before he could say anything. "Okay, let's split into groups to check every door and window in the school," he said. "Make sure every single one is locked. That will help us know when something is happening."
The rest of the group nodded. Roman was always the one to give instructions to the others, being the charming one. He never took the lead on anything that wasn't his idea, though. He always made sure to have permission to do so, and he always did when Damien was the leader.
He looked at Damien, waiting for him to make the groups. Damien nodded. "Okay. Remus, Emile, and Remy. You three will check the third floor, make sure every door and window is how it's supposed to be, and come back. Logan, Patton, and Virgil. You three will check the second floor, do the same and return. Roman and I will check this one. All doors have to be locked. Logan has the keys. If there are any unlocked doors, text him and he'll lock it." Logan sighed but nodded. "We will all meet at the gym door. Whoever gets there first, wait for the rest. Got it?"
Everyone nodded and parted ways. "You think having everyone here is a good idea, Dee?" Roman asked softly, tilting his head and wrapping his arms around Damien's waist to pull him closer.
Damien smiled and kissed him lovingly. "Everyone has a purpose here. Logan is here to annoy us with his skeptical shit if we panic. Emile and Patton are here to lighten the mood. Remy, Remus, and Virgil couldn't not come. They love this kind of stuff. And you're here to keep me safe and be handsome." He smiled, seeing Roman's light blush. "I love you, Ro..." he said quietly before kissing him again. Roman smiled against Damien's lips and kissed back, pulling him closer to deepen the kiss.

Remy groaned and rolled his eyes. "For fuck's sake, Em. Nothing is going to attack you... maybe just this asshole, but if he does you can lock him in a class." Checking the first door. The third-floor corridor was split by the reception. One side with three classes on each side and the other with a few other classrooms scattered here and there.
Emile was terrified of the paranormal. He claimed that he didn't believe in it, but he was terrified anyway, which was quite shocking when the others found out. "But what if something does? We're looking for J.D., aren't we? What if he gets pissed and attacks and kills us?"
Remy sighed. "Em. Nothing is going to happen, okay? I doubt J.D. will just show up because a bunch of teens with no life want him to. Besides, I thought you didn't believe in that stuff." Emile shrugged and Remy turned to Remus. "Don't you dare do anything stupid, okay?"
"Me? Stupid? Why would I do such thing?" he asked, sounding almost offended. Remy rolled his eyes at that and checked another door. "But how cool would it be that J.D. gets pissed and makes our-"
"Remus. Shut up. Keep those thoughts to yourself. Not everyone here is as gory as you are." Remy glared at him. "Em and I are going to check the other side. Make sure every door is locked. Don't make me come check." He grabbed Emile's wrist and pulled him to the other side of the reception to check the doors and windows there.
-
"Virge, check the doors on the right wall," Logan said, looking at Virgil. "I will check the ones to the left. Patton, check the windows," he instructed. There were five doors on each side and two windows on both ends of the corridor. They both nodded, even though a quiet whimper escaped Patton's throat.
Virgil looked at Patton. The excitement was clear in his eyes, but he tried not to show it in his features. He gave Patton a small, reassuring smile. "Hey, if something or someone tries to hurt you, I'll throw hands." Patton smiled and went to check the windows.
Logan smiled lightly. "Hey, Virgil..." he said quietly, getting the other's attention. "When we get out of this nonsense... um... would you-"
"Windows are done!" Patton called, walking back to them, not noticing the dark blush on both of his friends' faces.
"I- uh... yeah, the doors are all locked on this side..." Virgil looked down awkwardly. Was Logan asking him out?! God, he hoped not or he'd have to kill Patton for interrupting him.
-
Roman held Damien's hand tightly, afraid to let him go. He wasn't going to let him get hurt. "All the doors are locked. Gym?" he asked. Damien nodded and Roman turned to kiss him gently. "I love you, you know that, right?" he muttered against Damien's lips.
Damien smiled and blushed, kissing him. "You have told me about ten times since we got here, so yeah... I think I know." He chuckled lightly, pulling back. "Let's go," he said softly, pulling Roman back down the corridor towards the gym. "How many people did J.D. supposedly kill? Was it three?" he asked as they got closer to the gym.
Before Roman could respond, Logan, Patton, and Virgil met them. "Yup. Three," Virgil said. "Heather Chandler, Ram Sweeney, and Kurt Kelly," he said. "They were all assumed and filed as suicides back then, but after what J.D. tried to pull and Veronica Sawyer's testimony, we now know it was J.D. who killed them."
"That guy was demented..." Damien trailed off.
The sound of something hitting some lockers near them was heard, petrifying the teens.
"What... what was that?" Roman asked, pulling Damien closer protectively. No one said anything. Everyone's eyes were glued to the lockers that had made that sound. "Logan... what was that?" he asked again, looking for a logical answer other than 'the demented ghost is pissed and we're all going to die.' Which was what all the teens could think. Even Logan.
"It- it was probably the wind-" he started.
"Wind? Coming from where? Everything is locked!" Roman shot. They were all afraid. Scratch that. They were all terrified. "Where are the others?" he asked shakily.
"We're here!" Remy called. "What's going on? You look as if you've seen a ghost." He chuckled. Damien glanced at him. "Wait, seriously?! You saw a ghost without me?" he asked in shock, sounding offended. "How dare you?"
"We didn't see it... but it's here." Damien looked at Logan. "Door." He said. "We will keep this one unlocked in case we need to get out of here." Logan unlocked the door, his hands shaking slightly, worrying Virgil. But he didn't say anything.
They all walked inside the gym without saying a word, closing the door and sitting in the middle of it. "It's 1:48 right now... let's eat before we start at 3," Damien said.
