Day 4-Why Do I Put Up With You/Red String
A/N: A big thanks to the My Hero Academia fan page on Facebook for bringing up the idea for this one. Hopefully, I make them proud.
It had been a rather uneventful week at UA for Class 1-A. Outside of some Hero training, most of the week had revolved around normal high school activities. However, the class was still abuzz about the rumor they heard.
Apparently, they were supposed to have a special Pro Hero guest that was going to talk to them, let them know a bit about their work as a Pro Hero, and go over their Quirk. Of course, this excited Izuku more than anything, since he was absolutely thrilled to learn more about another Pro's Quirk.
Of course, they had to find out who the Pro was before he could go on to his tangent about how this person's Quirk worked, any possible applications to the Quirk beyond what the Pro had already figured out. The list went on and on.
Luckily for the class, they didn't have to wait long during homeroom before Aizawa spoke.
"As you all are aware, we're going to have a special guest today," he said in his normal monotone voice. "She'll talk about her Quirk some, and then you can ask questions. Please give her time to answer these questions...Midoriya." Midoriya shrunk in his seat a little as the class chuckled.
On the other side of the room, a certain pink skinned girl was slightly irritated with how Mr. Aizawa had called Izuku out like that. Mina knew the green haired boy took it in stride, but it still bothered her. If she wasn't currently on Aizawa's short list, she would have said something. Instead, she opted to give Izuku a wide smile when he looked her way.
"She'll totally be impressed by your questions, Midori!" she whisper-yelled, causing others like Kirishima and Uraraka to join in, which helped Izuku relax a little. Aizawa gave Mina the side eye, but left the matter alone...for now.
"Alright, class, I guess without further ado, here she is." He gestured to the door, and a young woman, probably in her mid-20s, stepped in. She took a look around the class before her eyes settled on Izuku, who was simply brimming, barely containing his excitement.
"Do I have a fan?" she asked, smiling. "Let's hear what you got, kid." It was all Izuku needed to start rambling about the Hero's identity.
"You're the Connection Hero, Hitch!" he replied excitedly. "You disorient you foes when you touch them, which activates your Quirk. The only real information out there on it is that it causes people you touch to see images, though there is a lot of speculation, the most common guess is what some one else is viewing..." he stopped himself after that, and the Pro looked rather impressed at his analysis.
"Wow," she replied. "Pretty spot on there. And the most common guess is the correct one. However, my Quirk isn't just a randomized view. The person has to share a special connection with the person whose point of view they see. And this works in one of three ways, depending on which one I wish to implement."
The class was now paying full attention to her as she moved to the center of the room, Aizawa having long since wrapped himself in his sleeping bag.
"Okay," she continued. "First off, my name is Shiaza Hakaburi, but, as this young man pointed out, my Hero name is Hitch. Now, I can explain my Quirk to everyone. When I touch a person, they see through the eyes of someone they are connected with. That connection depends on the color of the glow that emits from my hand, that I choose, when I touch them. The colors are blue, green, and red. Can anyone guess what each of those colors could mean by personal connection?"
The class was silent for a few moments, outside of Izuku mumbling. The Pro gave him the time to piece things together, and the class looked in awe (aside from Bakugo, who couldn't care less what was going on since they weren't battle training) as Izuku seemed to have come to some conclusions. He tentatively raised his hand, causing Hitch to smile.
"Alright, kid, what have you got?" she asked. Izuku took a moment.
"Well, blue usually represents friendship, green can be the color of envy, and red is...um..." his face grew red as the thought crossed his mind, "ro-romance. So, blue is like a best friend, green, maybe not envy, per se, but someone that drives you to better yourself, like a rival or role model, and then red for who you're in love with?"
Hitch blinked a few seconds, as her mouth was slightly agape.
"Holy crap, kid! That was almost spot on!" she smiled, and the rest of the class, by this point, wasn't even phased that Izuku got it right. "To be more specific, they all represent a person in a category that drives a person. Blue is for the friend that motivates you, green is for the rival, role model, etc. that you look up to. And red is for what I would refer to as a soul mate. I've learned that sometimes people aren't always with someone, and the Quirk still works.
"My only guess on that one, since I'm learning about my Quirk every day, is that it's the person you're destined to be with. It's always nice being able to use it to bring people together." She giggled slightly. "Sorry, I'm a bit of a hopeless romantic at heart." Then her smile turned up in to a sly one. "Who wants to see it work?"
Everyone was more or less excited for the demonstration, especially Izuku. That was, until it was unanimously decided by the rest of the class, the Pro, and Aizawa (who woke up long enough to 'cast his vote'), that he would be the one that was the guinea pig for her demonstration.
"You got this, Deku!" Uraraka called out to him, and others quickly followed.
"Yea, you'll do great Midori!" Mina called right after. Izuku sighed, knowing he couldn't let his classmates down. So, he moved to the front of the class beside Hitch. She looked at him.
"You ready, kid?" he simply nodded, and her hand turned blue. "First, which friend of yours is the real driving force?" She touched him, and immediately his eyes glowed blue. He staggered a little, but quickly regained himself. "What do you see?" Izuku took a few moments, weirdly seeing himself from a different perspective.
"Let's see," he said, getting his bearings. "Back of the classroom. Iida is right in front of this person, so....Uraraka." He smiled widely as Hitch released her Quirk. The two friends looked at each other and smiled fondly.
"Alright, time for green," Hitch said again. "Matches you well." Again, she touched the boy, and his eyes glowed green this time. His face scrunched up.
"Um. The image is kind of bouncing, but I think I can make it out," he said, as he concentrated. "I see three images. Two are in the classroom. The other is in the teacher's lounge. I'm guessing that's All Might." Of course, the class thought at the same time. "And let's see. That's Tokoyami in directly in front of me, er, this person, so...Todoroki. And then, looking at the window to the left. Oh, hi Kacchan." A low growl was heard from said blonde, but no further words as Hitch again released her Quirk.
"I'll give you a few moments before we get into probably the embarrassing one." Izuku nodded, not really knowing where this would lead. He was worried to say the least. He honestly wasn't sure how this would go. He liked one girl in particular, but they weren't as close as he was with some other girls that had come in to his life. But she always made him feel good, and...
"Alright, let's do this!" Hitch said, practically without warning, as her hand turned red, and she touched Izuku one last time. Izuku said nothing as he stared at the image, his face turning redder than his eyes were now. He said nothing as Hitch released her hold.
"C'mon, man, you gotta tell us!" Mineta said, desperately. Izuku looked over to Hitch.
"I'm sorry I wasted your Quirk on that one," he said, and she gave him a confused look, before sighing.
"Maybe I should say one other part of my Quirk," she said. "If I concentrate, I can see what my target sees. I did so, so I know what you saw. Though why you'd keep it a secret from her is beyond me." Izuku was silent for a moment longer.
"I just don't think she'd see me in that way," he said, a little dejectedly. To everyone's surprise, it was Mina who burst out.
"Why wouldn't a girl want to see you that way?!" she said, which caused Izuku to look up in shock at the pink skinned girl. "You are an amazing person, Midori! You're selfless and kind, and any girl would be lucky to have you!" she quickly slapped her hand on her mouth as she realized what she had just blurted out.
To further everyone's surprise, Hitch was laughing a bit, before she headed to the door. She stopped before she left, turning to address Izuku, while eyeing Mina.
"I guess you really don't have to worry about that anymore, huh, kid?"
