Four days later, Izuku was back in Nezu's office, Aizawa by his side looking like a vigilant hawk. The Chimera had proposed his offer of taking Izuku as his personal student after All Might had left that day. Just as Nezu expected, Izuku had accepted the offer in mere seconds. It went like:
"So, Izuku-kun, I would like you to be my personal student"
"Yes"
"But Kitten-"
"Yes"
"You don't have to-"
"YES"
Aizawa only sighed in defeat. As such, he now had to deal with two demons, the younger of whom happened to be his unofficial son.
Presently, Izuku was mumbling about the various possibilities. Nezu smiled along, being fluent in Izuku while Aizawa was having a hard time learning it.
"I just can't get it out of my head!!" Izuku whined, catching their attention.
"What is it, kitten?" Asked the concerned father.
Izuku sighed and pouted slightly "I've been trying to find additional clues to the case. We've been to the USJ twice in the last three days. The only thing I could gather there is that the security systems were disabled most probably due to the warp interference. One of the villains that were captured had a quirk that could manipulate electric signals so that's explainable. What I don't understand is how did the League even get the information about the trip?"
Aizawa and Nezu exchanged glances while the greenette continued, "I mean, there's either a mole in UA or one of the Villains has a quirk that somehow allowed them to steal the information from UA. I don't want to break the trust of students at UA by accusing them of something they probably haven't done but at the same time I don't have any clue as to how else we are going to solve this"
Aizawa sighed and leaned into his seat "As a teacher I shouldn't be talking this way but considering the situation, I can think of two students who might be a little suspicious. I honestly don't want to but you can never trust everyone fully"
"Well, who are they?" Nezu asked seriously.
The teacher rubbed his eyes with his index and thumb "Koda and Mineta"
Izuku tilted his head curiously while Nezu stopped sipping his tea "Explain."
"Koda doesn't talk much and can communicate with animals. A simple message sent through animals, even the smallest of insects could be decoded by the other end if someone has a compatible quirk. Mineta because I have overheard students talking about how he keeps locking himself in his room and keeps talking to someone on his phone. Though it could be anybody, I still think it's suspicious. The thing is, if we think about it, every student is a suspect and there lies the problem. You can never believe someone fully"
"Well" Izuku started with a frown "I think suspecting students and staff should be the last measure. A small misconception might break apart everything that UA stands for."
"That is true" Aizawa sighed.
The sleep deprived hero wondered how the little bundle of sunshine could be so wise and serious at times. Children, especially problem children, were beyond his understanding.
"Has Tsukauchi-san questioned the villains?" Izuku asked curiously.
Nezu tapped his chin with his paw and nodded "He did say something about going to question them but I haven't received an update yet. I guess I should call him up now"
The other two nodded and watched as the Chimera called the detective and conversed quite professionally.
"Unfortunately, they were questioned by the detective that day and none of them have the answer we are searching for"
Izuku banged his head on the table softly "This is just so frustrating!"
Aizawa only grunted in agreement. Why did Nezu have to burden his son with this, again?
"Does detective Tsukauchi have a list of the quirks of the villains?"
"Most probably" Nezu responded, sending a message to Tsukauchi to forward the data "and…. sent."
Izuku scratched his head and looked at Aizawa "Aizawa-san, just in case we don't get any leads from the Villains in custody, we might need to question the heroes and students here. I know we don't want to do this but it's necessary. We can't just let this slip because we don't want to hurt them"
The sleep deprived hero and the god of the demons nodded in understanding. Nezu's screen flashed as Tsukauchi's data email arrived.
"So a few quirks were recorded instantly due to missing records… suspicious" Izuku mumbled while Nezu sipped his tea. His disciple was more intelligent than he had estimated. "And how exactly did they do that? As far as I know, the villains are made to wear quirk cancelling cuffs so there isn't a way to confirm the quirks..."
"But Tsukauchi's quirk can tell their lies apart, right?" Aizawa asked in confusion.
"Yeah but…"
Nezu smiled slightly "Are you thinking what I'm thinking, Izuku-kun?"
The greenette looked up in worry "If we both have the same thought then it's very concerning. The case will be more complicated than imagined"
Aizawa looked at them and ground his teeth "Common language, please"
Izuku facepalmed "Sorry, Aizawa-san. What we mean is, Something is fishy with the police. I mean, we are only assuming this because it's a possibility and it has to be checked before proceeding to question the people at UA"
"And that is?"
"There's a mole among the police"
Aizawa gaped at the greenette and sighed. "Kitten, please explain. I, unfortunately, don't possess your level of IQ"
"Every villain must wear quirk cancelling cuffs along with a collar. So even mental quirks will be stopped. The quirks that have been recorded by the detective did not have any proof due to them wearing the cuffs. No villain is reported to have a quirk that manipulates or negates a quirk and even if they did, they couldn't have manipulated Tsukauchi-san to think that their lie is the truth because of the cuffs. So if there was any manipulation, it would be external. If someone among the force has a quirk that negates or manipulates another quirk, they could've lied about it and the detective would have believed them!"
"H-hold on. Come again" Aizawa asked, shaking his head.
Izuku sighed and grabbed a paper and pen "If officer X has a quirk that manipulates someone's quirk, he would have lied about his quirk and Tsukauchi-san would have believed it due to being manipulated. If X said his quirk was, say, flying, Tsukauchi San would have believed it because the manipulation would cause him to think the lie as the truth. And since all the villains wear quirk cancelling cuffs, X might have manipulated Tsukauchi-san to think that a lie told by someone is the truth. So if criminal Y actually did steal the information and lied that he didn't, Tsukauchi-san would believe it due to being manipulated!"
"Izuku-kun is a genius!" Nezu exclaimed and started cackling. Aizawa just dragged his hand over his face. The case did turn out to be complicated. The Chimera called Tsukauchi up to see if they could have all the officers assembled in one place so that they could proceed with the questioning but turns out, some were off to different places on investigation. They would return in two days. Nezu sighed and asked Tsukauchi to keep their conversation a secret and inform him when all the officers were back.
"We don't have time to lose" Izuku whined "do you think we should question the staff and students?"
Nezu thought about it for a while before nodding. "As pro heroes, we have a good reason to suspect anyone. Aizawa-kun and I will assist Tsukauchi-san in questioning the staff. You should call Todoroki-kun and inform him of the situation after Tsukauchi-san confirms his innocence so that you can assist him in questioning the students"
Izuku nodded and waited as Nezu asked Tsukauchi to get to UA in an hour with quirk cancelling cuffs to ensure the persons being questioned weren't under any deceiving influence. Once Tsukauchi had arrived, Aizawa called for Todoroki who looked extremely confused as to what was happening.
"Hello, Todoroki-kun. I'm Detective Tsukauchi Naomasa and I would like to ask you a question. I hope you can understand that we wouldn't be doing this unless absolutely necessary." The detective proceeded to explain that he needed to use quirk cancelled cuffs and that the reason will be explained soon. Shouto looked at his best friend and teacher for assurance. After getting it, he accepted the use of the cuffs and the detective asked him a few questions that would determine his innocence. Tsukauchi sighed in relief as it turned out clean and stood up. Once the teachers left the room, Izuku explained the situation to the dual quirk user and Shouto agreed to help Izuku question his class.
Izuku didn't want to do this. He didn't want to question kids his age just because they couldn't trust anyone but he had to. There was no choice. Aizawa would assist them as well and hopefully, as heroes in training, they would understand their reason. There was only one person Izuku feared might not, the person he didn't want to meet, the person who was more or less dead to him, his bully: Bakugou Katsuki.
