Chapter Seven

"—Be intrigued by that choice." Who would be "intrigued by that choice"? What choice? Wand choice, something else...? Ivy's head hurt a little with all the thoughts zooming through it.

"See you at Hogwarts," Harry said, interrupting Ivy's thoughts.

"See you there!" Hermione smiled.

"Yeah, we'll see you there," Ivy said a little weakly.

"Are you okay?" Harry asked, concerned.

"I'm fine, just a little headache," Ivy assured him.

"Sure?"

"Yeah, yeah, I'm sure," Ivy swung her right hand to dismiss the thought.

"Well, we have to go get more books!" Hermione exclaimed eagerly.

"I have to go with Hagrid to...uh...oh look there he is! He's got a...snowy owl?"

"We saw him at the pet store...Eeylops I think. He must've gotten him or her there," Ivy explained.

" 'Ello Harry. Gotcha an owl for yer birthday," Hagrid said eagerly.

"Oh, you didn't have to..." Harry said modestly.

"Snowy owls actually mainly hunt during the day time," Hermione said in her know-it-all tone.

"Yes, we were aware how smart you are," Ivy said bitterly.

Hagrid suddenly realized Ivy was there, "Harry, we, uh...we 'ave to go get more potion ingredients."

"Uh...no we don't," Harry was confused. "We already got all of them."

"No, we 'orgot one, let's go!" Hagrid almost dragged Harry—who gave Ivy a small wave—to the apothecary.

Ivy watched as Harry was dragged away, before she saw a strange figure walk by. High heels, a gold chained necklace, with a strange stone in the middle, and black, rather formal robes.

The young woman looked towards Ivy and Hermione with a cold stare. She had long black hair and icy blue eyes that were filled with nothing. She fingered with the stone on the necklace, muttering something to herself, before walking into Gringotts. Another woman was following her, with similar black hair, but less formal and more casual clothes.

"Who are they?" Ivy whispered to Hermione.

"I dunno," Hermione whispered back in defeat.

"Alright, any extra books you wanna get?" Professor Sprout walked over to the two of them.

"Is there such a thing as extra books?" Hermione asked, thinking the obvious answer was "no".

"Yes, there is such a thing as extra books," Ivy said dryly.

"Anyway, we're just gonna head over to Flourish and Blotts, and then you guys can head home, and then I'll come back on September 1st to get you to the train," Professor Sprout explained.

"That sounds like a plan," Evelyn Granger said as the five of them entered Flourish and Blotts.

There were oohs and ahs from Hermione, and Ivy was dragged away from books with really cool looking hexes.

"You can't even do any of those, wait until at least your sixth year," Professor Sprout explained.

Ivy sighed quietly, and glanced over at Hermione. She was slowly running her fingers over book spines, whispering each title to herself, too quiet for Ivy to hear.

"How many books can I get?" she asked.

"Let's go with five," Myles Granger smiled.

"Each?" Ivy asked curiously, interested in learning about the wizarding world.

"Sure, each," Dr. Evelyn decided.

Ivy stared at the different books, finding it hard to choose only five.

Most Important Wizarding Events of the 18th-20th Centuries looked interesting, but Wizard Involvement in Muggle Wars seemed just as neat. Indigenous Witches and Wizards also seemed interesting, but why not buy A Collection of Wizard Classics. There were also books about the Salem witch trials, and a lot of other historic events that, when magic was added in, seemed a hundred times more interesting.

For a few minutes there was only silence as everyone combed the shelves for books.

"Hermione, should I get Most Famous Witch Accomplishments, Muggle Accomplishments That Impacted the Wizarding World, or Magical Mishaps? I can get two of them," Ivy said, having finally decided on the other three books: Most Important Wizarding Events of the 18th-20th Centuries, Wizard Involvement in Muggle Wars, and Indigenous Witches and Wizards.

"I'm getting the second one, so you can get the other two," Hermione replied, looking at a book entitled The Tales of Beetle the Bard

"Okay," Ivy put Muggle Accomplishments That Impacted the Wizarding World back on the shelf.

"Are you all ready to go?" Professor Sprout asked.

"Yeah," Ivy said, walking back to her parents and Professor Sprout.

Her parents nodded, and Hermione joined them, nodding as well. Professor Sprout led them to the cashier, they paid for their books, and then left to go back to the Grangers' home.

When she finds out...they will do great things together... Professor Sprout thought to herself.

"Illyn, what are we doing here?" Lucy Malfoy asked her friend.

"Dropping this off in my vault. Wouldn't want it to get lost," she hung on that last word—holding the chain of the necklace and smiling a creepy smile—making Lucy shudder.

The only sound anyone could hear as they walked in was Illyn's high heels clacking on the marble floor. Other than the heels, everything was completely silent. Every goblin and person in the room had turned to stare at her, and Lucy felt an urge to hide. Soon, they approached the little podium at the back.

"I would like to enter my vault," Illyn announced, her cold voice echoing throughout the bank.

"O-Of course, M-Ms. Thurraker," the goblin at the podium in front of her stuttered, getting down and leading the way to the cart.

Illyn and Lucy sat in the cart with him—Illyn crossing her legs and sitting formally, and Lucy slouching with her head her hands.

"Vault 666?" the goblin asked.

"Yes," Illyn coldly stared at the goblin, making him jump a little.

He started the cart, and they zoomed into the depths of Gringotts. Lucy had never been down to Illyn's vault, and was surprised when they kept going down, past Lucy's own vault. Lucy's family—the Malfoys—was rather rich, and the deeper your vault was, the richer you were usually.

"Illyn, how much farther down is it?" Lucy asked.

"I don't know exactly, but there's a dragon guarding it," Illyn explained, staring forward, only acknowledging Lucy through speech.

Like Aunt Bellatrix's. That thing is crazy...like Bellatrix herself...

It didn't take long after Illyn's answer before Lucy saw the dragon. She (female dragons are more violent than males, and this one seemed extremely violent) reminded her of her Aunt Bellatrix's: white, lots of horns, and a small gash near her neck on the left side.

They soon approached the dragon, and the goblin stopped the cart. He then tossed a bell to Illyn, who nodded, knowing what to do with it. He then turned to Lucy, smiling eerily. "Stay near your friend if you want to live."

Lucy nodded in fear.

All three of them walked into the chamber with the dragon, Illyn and the goblin ringing the strange bells. The dragon watched them intently, and they slowly passed her by. They then entered the actual vault, and Illyn put the necklace on a little podium in the center.

"We can head back up now," Illyn said, walking back towards the dragon chamber, ringing the bell.

What is that necklace, and why was it this important? Illyn's not telling me something...
