Chapter 6

I just stood there, infront of him, looking at the ground and playing with my shirt's fabric out of embarrassment. I could feel his gaze on me.

After what seemed like an eternity I let out a breath I didn't even know I was holding and looked up, but Eliot wasn't there, but he left the door open. Was that an invitation?

Without over thinking again, I stepped into his house. Usually the houses built in my area were airy and bright, but the atmosphere in his house was a bit warm and dull due to the closed doors and curtains, but it still felt like home.

Soon an eery silence surrounded me. I was standing alone in Eliot's living room- or what appeared to be a living room with just a plain sofa, coffee table and a TV in sight. Where did this guy go anyway? He did not seriously leave me alone to fend for myself now, did he? What the hell? I was his guest - an unexpected and uninvited guest - but a guest nonetheless! Where did he drop his manners?

I huffed in annoyance and plopped down on his sofa. Fine be like that. Even I wasn't going to move until he came back to greet me - his guest - properly.

An hour went by and there was still no sign of Eliot. I sighed. His living room was so boring. I couldn't even find his TV remote because of the darkness and his lights didn't work, who could possibly live without lights? Not me.

Now beyond annoyed I decided that I would try to find him on my own. It was getting dark out, which meant it was only getting darker inside. I really had no plan to spend the whole night searching for Eliot freakin Grace. He'd better come out of hiding.

I made my way to the corridor I entered from and walked in the opposite direction of the living room. It was a kitchen. A sleek black kitchen counter spread across from me, divided the kitchen into two. The kitchen was spotless and green and white in colour, and it had all the kitchen appliances that I'd want in a kitchen. It looked expensive, but also homey. If I had a dream kitchen, this would probably be it.

Well my mind was always quite the wanderer.

Now annoyed at my self for being distracted so easily I made my way around his house, calling out to him.

Soon I was standing in a small room that was just lit by the light coming from the windows. There was a huge bed in the middle of the room with mosquito net and all and it felt like I went back in time, but that didn't quite catch my attention. What caught my attention was a small black box with sparkling blue designs and a lid of the same blue colour. The designs were absolutely beautiful. It felt like that box was calling me, wanting me to pick it up. I was never a nosy person, but when something so strong pulled me towards the box I had to oblige.

Standing in front of the box I felt different, stronger somehow. I was calm and composed. My worries seemed to disappear. My eyes were blurry but that didn't bother me. As I began to cradle the box in my hands I could hear a voice, it sounded distant but the words it chanted were clear- open it, open it.

Seconds later the box was knocked out of my hand and it fell to the ground with a light thud. Nothing broke. Nothing came out of it. My mind still couldn't process what had happened so I didn't notice Eliot standing in front of me until he had to actually flick his fingers infront of my face to bring me back to reality.

"What the hell are you doing here?" He asked in a low dangerous voice not even waiting for me to come back to my full senses. Whatever that was, it felt amazing.

"I- uh- I" I said with a cough to cover up my embarrassment. Other then being shaken up by whatever had happened with the box I was also humiliated now that Eliot had caught me snooping around at his place.

"I'm waiting" he scoffed as if I was truly something he wanted to get rid off quickly. Something about that thought saddened me. But then suddenly I remembered why I was even here, bored out of freaking mind. That reason was enough to ignite that spark of  confidence back.

"You left me alone at the door. The door was open. In I came." I said, my voice harsh.

"You talk funny" he mused. My jaw dropped at his reply. This guy could be so bipolar sometimes.

"What the hell? Get back to the topic, you left me alone at the door!" I replied, my voice higher at the end.

"Any phobia of being left alone Miss -" he stopped dramatically as if he forgot my name.

"Ivory." I spat.

"Ah yes, Ivory. Scared of being alone?" He smirked.

"No! Just, who the hell does that?" Was this guy crazy?!

"Well I expected you to go away, but no you took that as an invitation" he said.

"Well, it was an open door." I said as if talking to a child.

"I didn't say 'come in', did I?" He said in the same tone.

"You're stupid!" Really Ivy? Really?
"Oh so now we're back to the name calling" he said with a sigh.

"What the hell was in that box?" I asked, trying to change the subject.
He raised his brow in amusement, but then his face hardened as my words finally registered.

"That's none of your business." He said with a tone of finality. Sighing at his response I decided to drop the argument. It was getting late anyways.

"Okay. I just came here to check if you were okay, the whole school was worried about you apparently." I scoffed, rolling my eyes.

"Oh, so you were worried too?" He asked wriggling his eyebrows. That question caught me off guard. I was worried, wasn't I?

"Yes" I replied in a monotone. "We are neighbours , aren't we?"

His eyes widened at my honest response but that was it, he didn't reply.

Eliot Grace was left speechless and I, Ivory Stewart did that.

Now raising my eyebrow in amusement, I walked back to the living room where I had left all of my stuff. He just followed silently.

"Oh and I brought these for you" I said taking out the notes from today's lectures. "We have the same classes so" I continued awkwardly.

He simply just took the papers from my hands and kept them on the table.

"Uh so, I should be going now." Why wasn't he saying anything?

He just nodded his head in response. Okay then.

Just as I was about to step out of his main door he called out to me.
I turned around to face him.

"Uh, thanks for coming I guess, and thanks for the notes, I'll give them back to you tomorrow." He said.

"Oh, you're welcome" I replied with a smile.

He smiled back.

Once I was out of the door, an idea hit me.

"Oh!" I said turning around once again. "We should totally hang out sometime" I winked, repeating what Diana, our school's diva, had said to him the day before in class.

He laughed and that sound made me feel all funny. "Goodbye Ivory" and with that he slammed the door in my face.

Mean.

At least I was home before dinner time. I was famished. That jerk didn't even offer me any food. Minus points for that.

Maria, our chef had already cooked dinner and I ate silently, sitting alone at the table. I hated that my parents had to work so much. But their work made them happy so I understood.

After putting my plate in the dishwasher I decided to go and get my homework done. We didn't get any today, but I had some pending from earlier.

As I was about to finish my essay, my phone beeped. It was a message from a private number.

You'll get your answers soon.

What? Which answers? I couldn't even reply asking about what the sender meant as it was a private number. Did they mean answers about my dreams? But I didn't tell anyone about it. So how? Suddenly I remembered the box back at Eliot's house. Was this about that? Oh I would love some answers then.

A few hours passed and my essay was long done. I was lying on my bed, scrolling through my social apps, I had almost forgotten about the message when I received another one from the same sender.

About everything. Goodnight.

Okay when was this 'soon'? I couldn't wait.

Soon I was drifting of to sleep a lot more confused than I already was. All that echoed in my mind was,

You'll get your answers soon.

Soon.
