Chapter 4
I didn't leave my room until late at night, I wasn't very hungry so I used my dinner time to complete my homework. The clock read 11:10p.m. as I made my way downstairs quietly, I wasn't in the mood to sleep at all. There was too much on my mind.
I walked to the indoor pool hoping that I would get tired after swimming and have a dreamless sleep. My parents had insisted on building the pool after learning that I liked to swim, I told them it was unnecessary and I could always go to the school's swimming pool to practice but they didn't listen, I guess they felt really guilty about leaving me alone at home so much.
I heard steps on the floor behind me and I knew Freddy was still awake. I knelt down a little beside him and ruffled his fur. He followed me to the pool, he usually just sat near the pool or walked around as I swam.
The pool area was lit by the moonlight coming through the huge glass door which led to the the backyard so I decided not to switch on any other light and just swim in the moonlight. I stripped off my clothes and quickly changed into my swimwear in the small bathroom near the pool area.
I took a deep breath and dove straight into the pool with a splash. I swam around for a while before going deeper into the water until my lungs couldn't take it anymore. I loved that feeling. I loved testing my strength. Call me crazy but it was thrilling to me.
After an hour or so of swimming I finally decided to get out of the pool.
With a robe wrapped around me and my hair dripping wet, I walked to the kitchen to fix myself a quick snack. Freddy was already asleep by the pool so I decided not to disturb him.
I made a chicken sandwich and devoured it all quickly, I placed my dish in the dishwasher and then walked back to my room.
I shivered as a cool breeze hit me when I entered my room. The window was slightly open. Strange. I didn't remember opening it. I went over to the window and closed it.
Tightening the robe around me I walked to the bathroom to take a quick shower. I changed into my pajamas after that and got into the bed, snuggling the blanket closer to me.
Soon I was drifting into peaceful sleep, or so I hoped.
Not long after, I woke up with a start as my left arm suddenly started to hurt. I flinched as I moved the covers to look at it. There it was again. The scar. I jumped out of my bed to get the first aid kit before it disappeared again or killed me, blood was gushing out of it suddenly as if it was cut open a little bit more. It was certainly deeper than before.
This was absolutely crazy. Was I dreaming again? This seemed so real though, I pinched myself to see if I was really awake or not and then cursed under my breath as I felt the sting of the pinch. Oh I was awake alright.
I grabbed the first aid kit from the bathroom and squeezed my eyes shut as I applied the disinfectant over the wound. It stung really bad.
"Don't worry honey, I'll take care of it. Go back to sleep." I heard someone say to me.
I opened my eyes and looked around for the source of the voice. I was the only one in my room. Startled, I looked at my arm to see that it was completely healed, as if the wound was never there, even the blood spots that were there on my bedsheets disappeared.
What the hell?
"Language dear" that same voice spoke again.
I turned around frantically, looking for the source of voice again, but it was of no use.
"Who is this?" I asked slowly, though I wanted to scream, but I didn't want to wake the whole neighbourhood up.
"No need to worry about that now, go to sleep honey. It's late" The voice replied, it was a woman, she sounded old. I gulped as I looked around again.
"Where are you?" I asked.
"In your head" she replied nonchalantly as if this was a common thing and happened everyday.
"But-" I started to say but my head started to spin, and suddenly my legs started to walk back to my bed.
"You need to rest now" was the last thing I heard before everything turned black.
-*-
I slowly opened my eyes as I felt a throbbing pain in my head. I clutched my head and groaned. Where the hell was I now?
I was sitting on something soft, I touched it with my fingers as my head felt too heavy to move. I was sitting on very well groomed grass. Just like the grass in my backyard.
A look around told me that I was indeed in my backyard.
When did I walk out here?
I looked up when I noticed some kind of movement from the corner of my eye. Eliot was standing there, with his hands in his pockets. He just stood there and kept staring at me for some time.
"Um hi?" I broke the silence.
"Hi." He replied with a curt nod.
"What are you doing here?" I asked cutting straight through the chase.
"Uh I-" he stopped and looked around, "Um I came to introduce myself to my new neighbours" he said and smiled slightly.
"Oh, there's a door for you to do that you know? Why are you in my backyard?" I asked.
"I did ring the doorbell a couple of times but nobody answered. So I went back home and saw you sitting in your backyard and so yeah- I came here." He answered with a smug smile.
"Oh" was all I said. He walked over to where I was sitting and sat down next to me.
We both just sat there, not saying a word. Surprisingly, it wasn't awkward at all, it was peaceful instead.
"I should get going" He said whilst getting up and then he walked away without waiting for my response.
I sighed.
Suddenly the air around me started to feel weird, denser in a sense. Darkness started to surround me. Was I dreaming again?
It was getting difficult to breathe, I coughed a couple of times and then everything turned black. Again.
