I groaned as I felt a shooting pain in my left arm, I flinched as I slowly opened my eyes. Darkness was all I saw at first but then slowly the surroundings were lit by the moonlight. All that I could make out was, 1.) I was lying on the floor of some place I didn't recognise at all.
2.) There were too many walls surrounding me, and
3.) My arm was hurting A LOT.
I tried to get up, using my good hand for support. I somehow managed to crawl to the nearest wall and sit against it. I searched for my phone and sighed in relief when I found it, I could use the torch now.
With shaky fingers I switched my phone on, I tried to put my password in but failed every time because the phone kept slipping out of my fingers. Ugh, why did I even put a password. Finally after the umpteenth try, the phone opened.
The battery was only at 8%. Cursing my luck, I searched for the flashlight app, I know I could have called someone instead but I needed to see what happened to my arm first, and the battery wouldn't really last a call. The flashlight lit up the area I was sitting in. I turned my phone towards my left arm to see what was wrong. A deep red gash was what I saw. It looked like it wasn't bleeding anymore, the little blood there was had dried up. Maybe I hurt myself while running or something.
Soon it was dark again, my now dead phone lay beside me. I closed my eyes and tried to calm myself down by taking deep breaths, it didn't really help but now I could think a little clearer. I decided it would be better to not run back home this late at night, instead I would wait for morning and then be on my way.
The only problem with this plan was that I was afraid of the dark and I had no idea what I would do sitting alone in this dark place. So I decided to do, what I always do in this situation. I decided to sing the first song that came to my mind.
"I walk a lonely road
The only one that I have ever known
Don't know where it goes
But it's home to me and I walk alone
I walk this empty street
On the Boulevard of Broken Dreams
Where the city sleeps
And I'm the only one and I walk alone" I sang softly.
I stopped singing when I heard footsteps coming my way. I looked up as a tall shadow first came into view and then a body appeared. It looked like a boy.
I stood up slowly, as he walked towards me. He was tall and lean, and towered over my 5'6" frame. It was really dark so I could only see little of his face, a strong angular jawline which was prominent, his nose was a little crooked and his lips were thin. His eyes were dark, I couldn't really make out the colour. His skin was pale, maybe because of the moonlight.
He wasn't very bad to look at. I blushed as I realised that I was staring at him, he raised an eyebrow in question too. I immediately looked down at the ground in embarrassment.
"Um I.." I started only to be cut off by him. "I know." He said in a deep voice. I looked up at him again. The corner of his lips raised slightly as he looked at me. Suddenly he raised his hand and covered my face with his palm. "What the hell?" I said startled, but my voice came out muffled as his hand pressed against my mouth.
"Shh" he said, and everything turned pitch black.
I woke up with a start and looked around frantically. I sighed as I realised where I was. This dream seemed too real to be a dream. I pushed my blanket aside and got out of my bed. It read 6:56 a.m. on the clock. I had school in about an hour. Great.
I rushed through my morning routine and was downstairs in a record time of 15 minutes. I went straight to the kitchen to cook myself a light breakfast. As I sat at the counter waiting for the bread to toast I allowed myself to think about the dream. I have no idea what's been up with me lately, why am I having such dreams? They made no sense at all. Or did they?
I ate my breakfast quickly as I realised I was running late. Taking my car and home keys with me I slung my backpack over my shoulder and walked out of the house to my car.
My school was a 20 minutes drive from home. I turned into the parking lot of my school, Gingerville High and parked my car. This was the only school with good education in our town, rather the only school in our town which counted as a school. You get the idea.
I walked to the main entrance, that's where me and my friends usually met before going off to our classes.
"Hey Ivy!!" I heard Amy, one of my best friends greet me as I neared the entrance. She stood with my other two best friends, Sarah and Vanessa. I smiled and mumbled a 'hi guys' back. We were neither the most popular group in school nor a social outcast. We fit in just fine.
"So did you hear about the latest news?" Amy asked. She was like the news reporter of our little group, she knew most of the things before anyone else did. We all shook our heads in negation and let her continue.
"So a new guy just enrolled in our school! He starts today!" She said.
"Ooh let's hope he isn't too bad on the eyes" Vanessa piped in and we all laughed. The Bell rang soon and we were off to our classes. I had Philosophy first thing in the morning and thankfully Sarah was in it with me. We walked to the class together.
The class was noisy as usual when we entered. Everyone were talking amongst themselves, actually there was a lot more talking than usual.
"Oh, looks like the new guy is in Philosophy too" Sarah muttered besides me, looking at the corner of the class. I noticed everybody kept looking there too. I followed their gaze and met with a little too familiar dark eyes looking straight at me.
What. The. Hell?
