Chapter 1
Darkness engulfed me, and here I was, in a dark place with nobody around.
Why was I here? I thought whilst looking around as a sense of familiarity came over me. I knew this place all too well, my parents used to bring me here all the time. I was in the park, but what was I doing here at midnight.. Before I knew what was happening I started walking, involuntarily.
Freaking out, I tried to turn around and run back home but all my efforts were in vain, I moved my arms around, trying to catch something but again, nothing. Suddenly I stopped infront of the fountain, I should have been running back home but something in me told me to wait and surprisingly I did just that.
Few seconds later it wasn't dark anymore, the water started glowing and I was surrounded by small beads that sparkled. I was awestruck and just stood there looking around, this was so beautiful. The beads continued flying around and I forgot that I was actually in trouble that very moment.
I moved around the fountain, the water still glowing and looked at the beads closely, they all had different types of symbols inside them. This had to be a dream, I was positive. Reaching out I took four beads in my hand, each one had a different symbol - a leaf, a heart, a snowflake, and a star. I stared at them with awe, suddenly all other beads around me disappeared. The four in my hands stopped shining, I panicked and turned around noticing that the fountain's water was still glowing but now brighter than before. I stared at it confused as waves started forming in it, wait- waves in a fountain? I blinked as the water rose in spirals getting brighter and brighter, the brightness started blinding me. I tried to shield my eyes from the brightness as I moved backwards. This was insane, fountains don't just do that! I tried to turn around and run but the light was surrounding me. Then I did what anyone would do in such situation, I screamed.
'Woof!'
'Woof!'
Startled, I opened my eyes and scanned the room I was in. I was at my house, sprawled across our couch in the living room. Yup, it definitely was a dream. The clock above the T.V showed that it was 5 in the morning. I yawned as I rubbed my eyes and looked down at Freddy, our golden retriever who woke me up. He looked at me and barked again. I knelt down infront of him and took his face in my hands.
"Aww, breakfast time for you already" I cooed playing with his soft fur. He just cocked his head to one side and stared at me, he was so cute. Laughing as I got up, I walked straight to the kitchen, the dream still at the back of my mind didn't bother me that much now. After shuffling around the kitchen for a while I finally put his food in his bowl and set it down along with some water and filled a glass of water for myself. I watched him as he ate everything within a few minutes and ran out of the kitchen, probably to wake my parents up. That huge energetic ball of fur.
I decided to go upstairs to my room and use a couple more hours of sleep, today was a Sunday anyways. I looked around my room for if Freddy had decided to pay me a visit here earlier, he loved chewing on my pillows, and I hated to clean up the mess he would create after that noble act.
My room was something you could call 'Elegant and simple' and I loved it. It was sufficiently furnished and nothing overdone, and my favorite part was the huge glass window, which could almost pass for a balcony, except it didn't have anything to stand on outside, so it was just a huge window adjacent to my bed. I loved to read there. There were pillows scattered everywhere in my room. Leaping over to my bed I decided to call it a night or day, whatever.
Something wet dripped on my face, I groaned and opened my eyes to see Freddy looking at me with his tongue out. "Ew! Freddy" I groaned rubbing my face. "What the-" I looked around to see that I was back in the park, lying just infront of the fountain but this time with Freddy by my side. The fountain was how it's supposed to be, normal. I looked around for Freddy but suddenly I was all alone. "FREDDY!" I screamed with all my strength and then everything blacked out.
"Ivory! Dear are you okay?" I heard my mom calling out to me. I slowly opened my eyes to see my parents, servants and Freddy standing by the door of my bedroom. FREDDY! I sprinted towards him and engulfed him in a bone crushing hug, maybe that's why seconds later he started to bark. I pulled back and smiled at him "Never leave me" I whispered to him, he just grunted in response and walked out of the room. I got up and turned to the little crowd at my door minus Freddy. "I don't know, it was just a horrible dream I think" I told them.
"Dear you screamed pretty loud, poor Freddy must have got a heart attack" my dad tried to joke, not helping dad. My mom gave him a look and came forward to hug me. "It's okay dear, it was just a dream" she said, yeah mom I hope so too. I was pretty worried, and I'm sure as hell not going back to that park anytime soon. I looked at her and nodded. Everyone left after making sure I was okay, leaving me to get ready for breakfast. I went through my morning routine and was down in no time feeling much better.
As today was Sunday, my mom and dad were cooking breakfast together, they did that every week. It helped them relax they said. Like my parents I always found cooking fun too, and that's why I cooked my proper breakfast every day before leaving for school. A pleasant smell of chocolate filled the room as I entered the dining room to see a plate stacked with my all time favorite, choco-chip pancakes. My parents soon joined me in the room and we started eating peacefully with a little bit of chitchat here and there.
Sundays were usually supposed to be some kind of family day, but many times my parent had to go out of town for business. That was why I was sitting in my room all alone with a book in the evening. After breakfast my parents had to leave for some urgent work out of town, the conversation went like:
"Dear, me and your father have to attend this very important conference in Detroit, we need to leave by afternoon, will you be okay?" my mom asked as we sat down at the porch after breakfast, this question was not new to me so I simply nodded my head and asked her about when they'll be coming back. "We would probably be back by next Monday, but it depends." She replied, I just answered with a simple 'okay' deciding not to question her any further.
That did not mean that either of us loved each other any less, I was used to this and knew they worked so much only to provide me with the best. I was thankful, but missed them being around.
Sighing, I kept the book aside and I decided to call it a night. I grabbed my IPod and earphones from my desk, the assignments to be submitted tomorrow sat on it, long done. Right, school tomorrow. Yay. I got in my bed and put in my earphones, playing 'Little things' by One Direction.
I let sleep consume me as the soothing song played, a single tear rolled down my cheek as I focused on the lyrics. This happened every. single. time.
I snuggled up in my covers and just hoped for a dreamless sleep as I closed my eyes.
