Chapter VI: What's Taking Over Her
Nobody has gotten any sleep from the worry of Ivelisse. Even though Blathnaid closed the portals, the danger has not subsided. The drinks helped us pay no mind and try to sleep.
This is the day the dangerous blizzard is predicted to arrive. This is odd for Englanders to experience this because our climate is mainly temperate and boring due to the fact that we are surrounded by the ocean. This blizzard is going to compete against the old blizzard in 1981. Let's see if it can top that or die off.
My father doesn't return back to the house. He does need to plan what he is going to do with me after this. I bet five pounds that he is going to throw me out or become estranged when this is over. Speaking of getting kicked out, the coven kicked Lucas out of the house for multiple reasons. They figured out his past from Ivelisse and for assaulting Ivelisse. There's no way he's returning. They only give him money for a hotel for a couple of days and he needs to find somewhere else to live. They are giving him no compassion even if there's a blizzard out there.
The coven and I sit in the living room while Ella prepares coffee. We are all yawning and eating breakfast.
"How was your sleep?" I ask Ella while she hands me some coffee.
She nervously laughs. "What is that?"
I take that as a no. I turn towards Rick, who appears used to not sleeping. "How's Ivelisse?"
"She is resting. She is still scarred from last night," Rick replies.
I don't blame her.
"The next few days are going to be hectic," Dominique states, referring to the blizzard and our situation.
"We all can agree. We're stacked up for it and have backup power," Ella reassures her.
Blathnaid enters the living room, holding her journal and a book from the library. The book with magic decorations all over it. She looks more stressed than usual, but she is contained.
"I did more research about this spell," she states, "There's a problem."
"Obviously," Dominique sarcastically replies.
"When doing the spell, there is a chance for the portal to grow within oneself. It's more likely for those that failed, communicated with alternative dimensional beings, and multiple attempts. Possession is likely in those cases. It also causes portals to open in the failed attempts since the energy doesn't fully close off like in successful ones. Well, almost."
"It's like a wide invitation for multiple entities to notice and take control. I highly doubt they are weak. They saw Ivelisse as an opportunity to get into our world. She failed multiple times. When she succeeded, we don't know if she talked to them."
"There's also a time limit..."
"I beg your pardon?"
"It's advised to remove the entities from her body within two weeks and if she remains open, she will most likely be a permanent vessel to them. It's at that point that her soul is completely in the hole."
"Jesus Christ," Ella distressfully cusses, "We spent a week trying to do a banishment and two of our friends got killed. We already spent two days this week. The priest left and another member got expelled. Anyone got ideas?"
"How about we shut the portal inside her first?" I suggest, "Before banishment?"
"Can't we just send those back into the portal before closing it up?!" Dominique also suggests, "Naomi doesn't have any experience in the occult."
"Doesn't mean I don't know anything about it," I roll my eyes, annoyed. Actual translation: Is my family a joke to you? Oh wait, you barely heard about my family's history. If I decide to write an autobiography, you might assume it's in the fantasy-horror genre.
I look at the window and snow starts to fall. Not too windy or a winter land yet. The blizzard is supposed to kick up around the afternoon today. It's going to take a few days before the storm finally lets up.
As soon as Ivelisse got up, we took no time preparing the ritual door closing ceremony and also banishment. Rick says he will keep monitoring her vitals because they change when the possession takes over. I told him that her heart rate dropped right before possession from the exorcism took place.
"Not t'is again," Ivelisse grumbles.
"Ive, you only got a couple bloody days before you lose your body," Ella solemnly says, "If I were you, you better not argue."
She crashes her head against the pillow in defeat as we tie her up, sighing heavily. Her body looks completely enervated from all the possessions more than the past week. If they do fully take over, it won't take long until her body drops dead from the heavy stress, along with lack of nutrition and other things.
Blathnaid shuts the lights off and closes the windows' curtains. Ivelisse closes her eyes, ready to bear another wave of this cleansing. Blathnaid starts off the ritual immediately, followed by us chanting along with her. She waves sage around. We can hear an angry dog bark outside as we chant along. We ignore it. I think that the poor doggy is lost in the cold outside world.
It doesn't take long for Ivelisse's heart rate to drop, causing the monitor to alarm. Her rate is beating twenty-nine beats per minute. That low heart rate can cause less oxygen to move into the brain and the chance of heart failure is more likely. Her energy also changes. A low rumble in her throat gradually changes into multiple colossus growls. She snarls and barks at us; however, we persevere.
"You can't hold me back," Ivelisse says in an oddly normal tone, in a trance-like state.
We don't take any chances; Ella and Rick hold her down. Ivelisse grins with devilish laughter, not too bothered by us.
After a minute, Blathnaid stops. She decides to change the exorcism by gently pressing the smudge stick down to her throat. Well, not completely touching it. She mutters phrases in a different tongue while tapping in certain phrases on her. Ivelisse's body slams back down to the bed very hard in pain. Taking this as a sign, Blathnaid chants louder. The coven looks confused by this like this isn't part of the plan.
This chick decided to take her own path like screw these rules! I am gonna put my own pizzazz and spice it up! It is helping.
"You wretched weak-mortal witch!" Ivelisse barks. She groans in pain again. She tosses and turns, still being held down to the bed, "If I was in my true form, I'll smite you!"
The deadly energy escalates within her. She's about to attack. "Blath," I warn her, urging her to be careful. In a split second, the energy of stars exploding slams Blathnaid against the wall, knocking equipment in the process. This makes Ella and Rick become distracted. She breaks free from her restraints and slams both of them with her powerful strength. Dominique tries to grab Ivelisse. Ivelisse disappears. She reemerges on the ceiling and sprints towards Blath, who is still pinned against the wall from the force. She grabs her by the throat and multiple figures surround Blathnaid, choking her.
Dominique tries to act fast and to help; however, she is pushed back by an unseen force. She begins screaming as we see multiple bruises forming all around her body from a dark mass forming on top of her. I look towards Aelen and Markus. Markus's face is telling me to do something, but I won't. Aelen is just watching with a resting mood face. Um, can someone help me? Supernatural power is not required.
I wince back towards Blathnaid. She is now turning blue! Seeing her like this turns me into a mess. My aura and eyes change as I dash towards them at impossible speeds, the invisible barrier not affecting me. Damn, I could've ended this earlier if I used it, but nope. I don't want them to think I am a mutant. I grab Ivelisse by the back of the neck before ripping her hands off of Blathnaid's poor neck, forcefully slamming her down to the ground. Ivelisse tries to get up; I slam her back down to the ground.
Aelen rushes to my aid. "Blath is still choking," he tells me while he restrains her.
I turn towards Blathnaid again. Bright white energy builds within me as I watch them keep choking my friend. Her eyes begin to roll back in her head as she suffocates. "Let her go!" I boom, the energy wave blasting in all directions, blinding the whole room. When it fades, Blathnaid is now lying against the wall unconscious with severe bruises around her neck. Her lips are still blue.
It takes two long minutes before the real Ivelisse returns to the surface. She wonders why the heck she is on the ground now, being held down by Aelen. Aelen eases off of her and helps her up. Ella and Rick got up as well, still very dazed after Ivelisse slapped the crap out of them.
"Did she banish them?" Ella asks while holding her head, looking at me.
I shake my head and reveal Blathnaid's state. Rick snaps out of his daze and ushers towards her aid. She probably suffered brain damage and he needs to check by driving her to the hospital.
Ivelisse starts to look like she sees right through us again. Not freaking again. Her energy was only replaced by another. It does not feel harmful. Well, where the heck was this spirit?! This would've made her possession less pain in the ass. Her heart rate doesn't drop this time. She just gets up and stands in the living room.
"Your time is running out," The ghost says sternly. It's not menacing or downright threatening.
"Not again..." Dominique groans.
"We know," I tell her.
"You're occupying a body that's not even yours," Dominique retorts, having enough of this crap already, "And you have the audacity to warn us that our friend is going to lose it to you and your buddies."
She turns to Dominique. "You're correct. I will take my departure. Best of luck. Thus far, you're doing exemplary as mortals yourself," she says before Ivelisse drops to the floor. She wakes up not long after, confused seeing that she moved again.
